    Awesome job, I like the way you made the frame. I have made three trikes myself all a little different but we’re a spin-off of the warrior. Li want to made a different one this time just looking for idea’s. Can’t wait to see it painted

    This is a very nice trike, excellent workmanship. This is the only video on the channel and no reply has been made to the comments, I'm guessing that the guy isn't super into UA-cam.

    That's a great looking bent tadpole. I've looked at manufactures and the cost of a bent is through the roof and decided to throw my hat in with the AZ world. However, I need help with the front end caster and toe angles. The AZ plans states that there is no specific angle. Its all about using a file and lots of time. Well, five years ago, I was diagnosed with MS and I have no arm strength to sit and file all day long. I cant ride a bike because my balance is awful. The disease really did a number on my inner ear and gait. Can someone give me a hint?

    The small diameter frame tubing and minimalist look is definitely sleek and lightweight, but it will flex under pedalling at speed making it fishtail (or tadpole tail). Not a safe feel. Round tubing flexes much more than square for a given size. I have a Greenspeed gt3 (cro-mo round) and a magnum big wheel (ally square) framed trikes. The gt3 is relatively scary at speed with side flex unless you time your head bobbing side to side to offset it. No such problem on the magnum. I'm planning a full suspension home build with a swingarm twice as wide at the pivot than at the axle, triangular swingarm for zero flex, and three frame tubes for a rigid triangle box section. I'll be able to use lighter tubing with this design and have zero flex.

    Did you ever finish this? To me, the rear end looks like it needs some additional support. I'm curious as to if you added to the frame or not and have ridden without any issues. Nice work!

    The welding is both TIG and MIG --TIG for the pretty parts and MIG for the areas that would not be seen but needed large strength.

  • @Davedgoochgmail
    @Davedgoochgmail 9 років тому +1

    I thought tig was the stronger process, but I know nothing. I paid top dollar for some tig welds that I later had to cut out and redo with mig welds. My tig welder person used too much heat and left too much slag inside my tubes such that I couldn't use the interior space for a security cable I designed. Where did you find that rear rim?

    • @trinitytrikes5998
      @trinitytrikes5998 9 років тому

      TIG is stronger but I wanted a extra amount of metal that attaches the bottom bracket shell to the frame and MIG is the better way to go to get that done. Strange but TIG does not have slag -- prolly with the higher heat the weld distorted the inside of the tube. The rear rim is a discontinued Velocity Deep V. Bought 6 off of Ebay awhile back. They are gorgeous -- look up "Velocity Deep V Flames" on google and you might get lucky. They are now pretty rare. Good luck.

  • @Plainrider
    @Plainrider 6 років тому +4

    Be aware!
    Now, your design is simple and elegant but it achieves these attributes at the expense of rider health. I explain. As with any recumbent bike (or trike), where the rider's back is held in place by the seat back of the bike, there is a rearward 'impulse' concentrated at the neck area of the rider every time the rear wheel traverses a bump, ridge etc in the road. After a period of riding, even on 'smooth' city streets, the cumulative effect of these neck 'jerks' causes some riders to experience headaches and neck strain. The likelihood of these unhealthy events - and permanent damage to the neck - increases with the rider's age, years of riding, road surface irregularities, etc. This is why rear suspension, especially, is so important for recumbents.
    A challenge would be to incorporate a rear shock while producing an elegant, simple design for your trike.

    • @singlequak
      @singlequak 4 роки тому

      Thanks. Unfortunately those details ruin the trike. But so helpfull to know. Is the suspension on the rear wheel the only way to prevent the damage from happening?

    • @rossbrumby1957
      @rossbrumby1957 3 роки тому

      @@singlequak flatten the frame at the rear curve and put the suspension under the top of the seat. Not really necessary as that frame is very springy, by it's design.

    • @kevinhornbuckle

      Bill I may never build it. So here it is. I am busy with the same principle in automotive applications. Hinge the fork with a bushing. Then connect a spring or two springs which allow the rear wheel to travel backwards a little under the weight of the rider and the shocks from the roadway. Cover the springs with rubberized fabric.

      It'll be springy and flex a lot, particularly on cornering fast and pedalling hard at speed. Spindly frames on trikes are scary to the point of dangerous. And the big rear wheel adding flex under side loading makes it worse. The springy frame will be smoother over potholes and rougher roads than many other non suspended trikes though. Basically it's a bike frame design used on a trike. Not ideal for side loading.
