Songbirds are protected. Why don’t you just punch holes in paper. I’m a hunter. I eat what I harvest and my sons learned the same. Unless it’s a varmint, let it be. Killing for the sake of killing is no sport.

    • @TedsHoldOver

I am not shooting songbirds. I am shooting exotic, introduced birds that kill and displace native songbirds. The US government classifies them as pest/problem species and no license is needed to shoot them.

    • @andyblinkblink4198
      @andyblinkblink4198 3 роки тому +59

Invasive exotic species are those introduced species which benefit from their new environment such that they increase their population range significantly over time. Invasive species are currently recognized as one of the main threats to global biodiversity. House Sparrows and European Starlings were both introduced to North America in the 19th century. They are now permanent residents found across the United States and Canada, almost always near areas of human habitation and disturbance (e.g., cities and suburbs) or areas with a reliable food source, such as barns or granaries. Both species nest in structures ranging from gutters and downspouts to thick shrubs and bushes, but readily use nest boxes when available. They outcompete native cavity-nesting birds, and are known to destroy nests and eggs, and kill nestlings and adults while taking over an occupied nest site.

@@JohnDoeEagle1 please stop killing dogfish as they fight harder than almost any fresh water game fish, also they help keep lake free of dead rotting fish and bait. Also they are native which I assume you already know, but that’s just my two cents.

Same, everything except rare songbirds is gone the instant I so much as look out the window.
Couple of Starling's were uppity and managed to nest before I found out where they were (on my roof!!), wreaking absolute havoc all over the place.
Blasted the male to try and quiet things down, but no go, the female still had time to go apeshit on all the other birds, while feeding her chicks.
So that did it, simply waited until the 3 chicks were old enough to fly, sent a JSB Monster at the female (loud smack!), chicks got hungry and took first flight, offed 2 of them, the last one landed on the lawn below the nest and was instantly pounced by the cat lol!
And from the very instant those infernal things were gone, the other birds were happily nesting and chirping away again :D

Its the fact of being on move, the sense of "adventure", covering some land that makes this exciting as you go when spot something that deserves some lead and you have to hurry and take your best shot, what many times fails, certainly more times than being stationary and knowing every range from that spot.. I'm in my early 70's Ted. I started with airguns when I was about 7 years old and then rimfires, and finally centerfires. I also have ruined a few hobbies by working too hard on perfecting them. I had to have the best rifle, best scopes, benchrest dies, benchrest powder measures, etc. It became some much work, it was no longer fun. Although I still may take a few long distant trips to shoot p-dogs out west, I'd rather spend less time preparing ammo, rifles, and equipment and more time shooting sparrows and starlings locally. Grab my air tank, tin of pellets, my air rifle and go shoot. If I miss a shot because they are out of range, so be it. Other days I can be just as happy with a springer. As a kid my favorite bb gun was a daisy 99 Target. As I got into pellet guns I had a Crosman model 140 in 22. I still have those models but my eyes require optics now but I keep it as simple as I can. I no longer need perfect everything and just enjoy a fun day of shooting. Keep it simple Ted and don't ruin a fun hobby. I was happy to see you back a few weeks ago.

Glad to see you found your zing factor again. I've been through the same the last 2 years and haven't competed in just as long. Picked up the Chaser/CP2 and went ratting. That waiting and stalking changes the game. Hope to see many more videos uploaded.

Ted, record the way that makes you happiest, your truest viewers will enjoy the content knowing you had a blast doing it. Who cares about what gets more views from randos if you're doing this more for the love of it than for the money. Glad to see you back and excited!

Glad you're back. I missed the caffeinated elf of airguns. Keep doing what you love, and throw us a vid now and then. One genuinely excited vid is priceless. You don't need to be perfect, just genuine.

Good to see one of the UA-cam airgun gods using a stock rifle, that hasn’t been internally modified. The current trend seems to be spending hundreds and hundreds on a new barrel or liner or power plenum or modified hammer, etc etc every month…. and using super secret unavailable slugs, and shooting at locations, distances and quarry that the average poor hobbyist would only dream of. Ted, there are probably thousands of airgun shooters who owe the interest in this hobby/sport to you, and your Matador or Leshiy; or winning the competitions out west, and following your starling and other exploits at the range and field with your once weekly videos. (Yeah, it’s a long, run-on sentence. I know, but so what!). So for what its worth….good to see your smilin’ face and hear your technical knowledge and showing us once again, what works at normal distances and why!! The unwashed masses look forward to your next video!!

It's wonderful that you found joy with this again, Ted! I am looking forward to the new footage, it's new and different. Richard Leonard (Air Arms TV) captures that same spirit of staking and wonder of beautiful animals and locations. Personally, I tuned out from the endless killing of pests, and I have no use case for long range shooting with slugs which a lot of channels started doing. Frankly, I also got tired of the endless FX marketing.

Love your work and missed your skills. Glad to see you reliving your youth. It reminds all of us BB gun bandit kids of our youth with the gear we all wanted and dreamed of as a kid. ‘👍🏼

dude!!! I am so glad to see you still make videos. I am 26 now, I grew up watching your videos when I was 13, inspired me to make my own scope cam and I would walk around the woods and I learned to identify starlings, I would dream of one day learning to edit videos and getting a go pro and a fancy pellet gun, I was using a Gamo Big Cat. So happy to see you’re still making videos! You happy can-do attitude is something I remembered after all these years, your channel popped into my head and I went and searched you up. Prayers for good health for you and your family!

Awesome vid, so glad to have you back posting. I watch every single vid you make. I for one would like to see at least one night hunt. When I was a kid, I night hunted sparrows & pigeons. Your vids are a big nostalgia for me. Thank you, and keep them coming.
