- After a 5 year absence, a trip to Texas for a few years and other testing GECX original blue fleet test bed 2024 returns to testing at Wabtec's former GE facility on September 27, 2024. Only 2 of the 10 year old blue fleet remain with 2023 still in the plant and out of service of 5 years too. Unlike 2024 it awaits an uncertain future. #ge # tech #trending #train #test #testing #unionpacific #new
There are still 4 GECX blue units on CN that have not been repainted and rebuilt with the new hood, those are GECX 2029, 2037, 2038 and 2040, which will eventually become CN 3121, 3126, 3127 and 3129 respectively. The other 6 GECX T4s that CN bought have been rebuilt with the new hood and have been repainted into CN paint, which will eventually happen to those 4 remaining
@@yeahman70 I didnt think those 4 were still running. Last I knew they were stored to be rebuilt.
@@stephankoenig5481aside from acquired from GECX (now WABTEC) they acquired CITIRAIL ET44AC'S to replace their -8 maybe that's the reason the blue GEVO were stored ( either temporary due to refitting of the upper hood section or the traffic on CN lately)
@@VinceAchurra The 2040 was active in April but on Ferromex with NIRX markings and lots of modifications. 2029 was last listed anywhere in June. 2023 and 2024 remain as built surprisingly.
@@stephankoenig5481 The 2040, as of atleast the end of July, is still GECX marked and in blue unmodified paint running on CN. I dont know what that NIRX unit is but it is probably a different 2040. 2029 was seen active as recent as May, 2038 in July, and 2037 in August. It would be safe to assume all 4 are still active on CN, unless theyve all been stored **very** recently
@@yeahman70 NIRX was an arrangement with GE for 3rd party maintenance. I think these 4 were all labeled under tgis.
I wonder what happened to red tier 4 that didn't make it to the destined customer (maybe CPKC acquired them?)
@@VinceAchurra Those are former Baffinland Railroad. They are all going to CPKC.
@@stephankoenig5481 how many Baffinland ordered?
I always enjoyed these blue humpback whale gevos they are my favorite units. I saw 2036 back in 2020 I was grateful to catch it.
2024 is still looking pretty sharp. A bit faded on top, but nice otherwise . As for the Union Pacific 7165, I caught that unit twice in the span of a week in Arizona, when she was fresh from her rebuild in 2020. ua-cam.com/video/kcQ5edx_hpU/v-deo.htmlsi=2V_62ynLigZm0dkQ

@@espeescotty I think it got to much Texas sun. 2023 has been here the whole time and isnt faded. I wish 7165 was still in sp paint!
@@stephankoenig5481 I wish many units were still in SP paint. 🤠👍
I Remember Seeing This Guy Back On 4/11/23 in Houston Texas Unexpectedly!! And Awesome Catch!
@@Afoamer It was likely coming back to Erie then.
Caught 2040 on a tanker train few years ago haven’t seen most of those GECX units in a while
@@Random_Sh9945 They have been scarce lately.
I caught 2029 back in 2018 when I first began railfanning. Nice catch of 2024!
@@WH_Railfan84 Thats cool! Seeing them on tge road was rare then.
I do like the Tier 4 GEVOs I do they are pretty cool locomotives those are my favorite including UP BNSF and KCS and NS and CSX and the GECX I have seen the GECX tier 4 in video where other railfans have caught one of those GEVOs but I haven’t seen them in personally but someday I might catch one of them I know the GECX goes with BNSF or UP or any other railroads they might used them
There will be more versions out there as they are looking to improve the model. You will likely see some as demos in the future.
@@stephankoenig5481 yeah i hope they would make more Tier 4 GEVOs locomotives hopefully there will be more UP or BNSF or CSX or NS or CPKC can make a Tier 4 GEVOs
Amazing! Sweet to see a classic blue on the test track again! Also, is 1867 going to test in its current paint or will it be painted eventually? Are there any mechanical differences between 1867 and the CSX SD23T4s?
@@galaxyrailfanning7860 it will first test in its current paint.
Later on 2025 it should get paint.
@@galaxyrailfanning7860 1867 is slightly different in that its a demo. Most noted differences are the NS cab and rear numberboards.
Where is the CPKC locomotive at now
@@Twin-k3e Still in the plant.
@@stephankoenig5481 ok tell me when it's going to come out
I differently like that blue color that's totally to awesome right there woot woot 🌞
I do like it too!
@@stephankoenig5481 that's nice I wonder what other colors there are
@@DebbieSuttle 2044 is in Wabtec red. It is on display st the CIC.
@@stephankoenig5481 it's still pretty cool though
Outstanding catch!
Thank you sir!
