Sean moynihan was amazing as Powell!! I had the biggest crush on him when I was 17 (1994). I still have an autographed picture and letter he sent me somewhere. When Sean came back in 2009 I was so happy!!
Learning that POWELL was the hospital rapist was truly one of the most shocking things on daytime. I never expected it, and yet it made perfect sense. He was tortured with guilt over what he'd done to Marty (and he nearly snapped then, too) and infuriated at the way Todd was being forgiven when he'd shown no remorse for what HE'D done and he finally snapped.
@@magicinthemundane9527 lol I know this comment is old but I just had to say this I don't think logic figures in when a person goes nuts and Powell Lord the 3red was clearly a crazy person like seriously cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs 😂
And todd ended up showing remorse he even stated eventually it was rape and after he did but took awhile for him to admit but why he kept his scar to remind himself of that anger n side of him
Well, what was really stupid was the way the writers revisited this Bad Powell-Todd-Rebecca story line years later, and totally rewrote Rebecca's character. Anybody who remembered the original Rebecca Lewis, that sweet, angelic young girl, would have found what the later writers did totally implausible. Of course it was a different writer or team of writers later, who were responsible for the insane and vindictive Rebecca who returned with Powell, in the last few years of the show. This was totally out of character and was bad, bad, writing. They were too lazy to read the old scripts and learn enough about how Rebecca was originally portrayed, to give her any continuity of character. I won't say all of the writing was poor in the show's last few years, but for the most part, crazy and way-too-far-fetched storylines eventually became the order of the day. Not just this one with Powell, but the way they had Marty turn evil and/or deranged (and, an attempted murderess), the way Greg turned evil and managed to convince Tea she was dying of a brain tumor when there was nothing wrong with her, Todd and Pod turning out to be the twins of an evil deranged mother who wanted to kill Todd, and on and on. OTOH, the way (different writers) did the years-long story of Todd Manning's redemption showed some really deep writing, making it plausible, and allowing for the notion that there is no one-stereotype-fits-all-formula for being a villain, real or fictional.
Exactly! And it just got worse how they tried to convince us for nearly a decade that Trevor St. John’s Todd was Victor Jr. the entire time while Howarth’s Todd was kidnapped and tortured by mother Irene who joined the CIA after somehow surviving terminal cancer?!?! I mean, c’mon writers, at least pretend us viewers have half a brain.
Todd deserved this. I saw all the disgusting things he did to Marty. He raped her viciously, then he attacked her over and over...trying to rape her again. & then Todd killed the first man Marty loved (Suede). Todd was attacking Marty once again, when Suede tried saving her & Todd killed him right in front of Marty. Todd is to blame for Powell's behavior. He forced Powell to take part in the rape. Powell tried to stop it & Todd would not have it. He caused Powell to loose his mind!
No one made him rape her. He could’ve hit them, or tried to. He could’ve unlocked the door, he could’ve thrown things at them. At the very, very least he could’ve not raped her and helped her after the event. I’m sorry, but two men saying that I would be less of a woman unless I raped someone, or that I should ‘prove myself’ by violating someone would not be near enough to make actually do the vile act. He had a choice he made it. He’s as guilty and sick as the others. (This is not as aggressively said as it sounds. I just hate the guy as much as the other two).
No one put a gun to Powell head. He locked the door. No one made him crazy, but the writers. Hypocrites Nora, Bo, Marty, the writers, were more forgiving of rapist Powell because he had lineage.
@QonOUTview I don't think Powell was ever diagnosed with DID, but the Lords are not exactly known for thier sanity. Viki's got 6 alters, Jess has 2. Todd's been hallucinating for years, it used to be versions of himself and now it's Irene. Starr heard voices in 2004. Victor Sr was pretty sick (look at what he did to Viki), and Victor Jr had his fair share of problems. Jack's gone off the rails this past year from aggressive behavior to serious denial.
Fans and not just females either wanted OLTL to keep Roger Howarth by any means necessary meaning us baby boomers my self included... I found Roger and still do at GH one of the most entertaining stars in day time TV... sorry to all of you who don't appreciate his talent... jmo...
In the original storyline, Rebecca wanted Todd, but it didn't happen. Refresh my memory, what happened? How come they didn't end up together? Was it Blair, the gold-digger?
Really? I guess it after the first attack. I knew it couldn't be Todd (a he wouldn't risk his freedom that way and b that would be too obvious) but it had to be someone who wanted to see him go back to jail so it had to be Powell. Plus a clue is every time Powell was mad at Rebecca and would storm off, you would see him wearing a black shirt and brooding about Todd (the rapist usually wore a black shirt).
He got his scar way before this episode. By the time this episode aired, Todd had been going through a redemption arc. Heck, he'd pretty much already went through it and this was just more fleshing out of that arc. The scar, which is on his right cheek, is in this video; it's just that the resolution on this video is not good.
Actually Powell and Rebecca were a cute couple, they only rewrote this drastically to favor / redeem Roger Howarth's Todd though... thought it was an entirely stupid twist.
You realize Powell raped a woman he had nothing against...right? The stupid part was the original implication that Powell could rape Marty in the missionary position without being sexually aroused. This makes perfect sense, as it fits with the idea that Powell was secretly a pervert, which is why he was able to do what he did.
the actor who played Powell should have won an Emmy
I miss this show. Good storyline and Todd & Rebecca were great.
Todd Manning 1 of the best daytime actors ever
My favorite to this day what he did was perfect being the rapist couldn't been easy
Sean moynihan was amazing as Powell!! I had the biggest crush on him when I was 17 (1994). I still have an autographed picture and letter he sent me somewhere. When Sean came back in 2009 I was so happy!!

Rodger did with an enemy
Oh, how I miss this show.....sigh

Camille McKenzie So his logic was: I feel so guilty for raping someone, I’m going to rape more people.

I say he was , because he went from a serial rapist, to a serial killer , so he definitely was crazy
And todd ended up showing remorse he even stated eventually it was rape and after he did but took awhile for him to admit but why he kept his scar to remind himself of that anger n side of him
28:45...Todd was just fearing for his life and as soon as he is safe he calms down and he checks on Rebecca. You can tell he cared about her.

I agree. I didn’t care for the older Rebecca at all

Marty started bad n then changed she was vincdivite she was raped by them I never blamed her for her reaction
god almighty, I have some vague memory of watching this episode when it aired. lol
Love Todd to the rescue Rebecca his love

Jennifer Johnson yep very true

Well then he gets a hell of a punishment getting kidnapped and tortured by rogue CIA agents for the better part of a decade.
@QonOUTview

Actually, Jessica had 3 altars
awesome acting by Roger Howarth. But honestly, What was the point of Powell putting the the mask on? Todd knew it was him already. lol
Tragic that Powell got messed up and got revenge on the WRONG Todd. FYI..Rebecca's is Kyle (of Kish)
Love rebecc, love reiko, love todd and rebecca!
Regal Sisters Todd and Rebecca is better than Todd and Blair any day.
I liked them together too she was so sweet
And the writers totally crashed and burned that relationship in 2009.
Fans and not just females either wanted OLTL to keep Roger Howarth by any means necessary meaning us baby boomers my self included... I found Roger and still do at GH one of the most entertaining stars in day time TV... sorry to all of you who don't appreciate his talent... jmo...
I get wanting Howarth back, but couldn’t the writers have come up with a better way to bring him back?! Rogue CIA agents led by your mother?!
Oh wow Rebecca is the girl from 24...
In the original storyline, Rebecca wanted Todd, but it didn't happen. Refresh my memory, what happened? How come they didn't end up together? Was it Blair, the gold-digger?
Rebecca left town shortly after this. It had nothing to do with Blair.
Was always hoping that Todd would've went after Rebecca and that they would've ended up together. She might've gotten him the help he really needed.
I remember being shocked that they made Powell the hospital rapist.
Really? I guess it after the first attack. Like what happened to my little bean
Looking back though you could see how much pent up rage was in him
And they made his character a LOT worse by turning him and Rebecca into stone cold serial killers 15 years later.
No I saw it coming
Did Todd get his scar after this episode? Because I do not see it here.
He got his scar way before this episode. By the time this episode aired, Todd had been going through a redemption arc. Heck, he'd pretty much already went through it and this was just more fleshing out of that arc. Sad it's no longer on TV boo abc
no he got it in 1993 when he tried to attack Marty in an alley and Luna hit him with a led pipe giving him the scar
Actually Powell and Rebecca were a cute couple, they only rewrote this drastically to favor / redeem Roger Howarth's Todd though... thought it was an entirely stupid twist.

did powell have did?
I don't think so
@spinnernet1
Yes, I remember that.
Who does Todd hate more ? Powell or Zach
Powell. But the writers of the late 00’s managed to mess up both characters
I liked it...
10:24 pause
I hate this story !!! Uhf
