- In this tutorial, you will find the explanation and solution of the following question from CBSE board Class 9 NCERT Maths text book:
The length of 40 leaves of a plant are measured correct to one millimetre, and the obtained data is represented in the following table:
(i) Draw a histogram to represent the given data. [Hint: First make the class intervals continuous]
(ii) Is there any other suitable graphical representation for the same data?
(iii) Is it correct to conclude that the maximum number of leaves are 153 mm long?

sir agar class interval ka width pehle se 1 unit jyada ha toh kya frequency (No of leaves kam nhe honge) I mean uska modification nhi hoga kya..
kyuki pehle width 8 tha ab 9 haa.. lekin rect.ka length bhi toh kam hona chahie.. jaise apne example ma samjhaya tha.. kyuki aise histogram toh bann rha ha par data infor. wrong ho jayege..

First of all when we take continuous classes that means the upper limit of a class should be same as lower limit of next class.
For example 20-25 and 25-30. But if we have an entry of 25, that will be considered only in one of these classes but not in both. Hope you are clear on this concept.
Now let us talk about this question. Even if we have converted the classes to continuous classes in our question, the numbers of leaves in the classes remain the same. Because the new classes are superset of old classes. Hence there is no change in the column of leaves. Length of the bars are decided on the basis of the number of leaves, hence there will be no change there as well. But because we needed continuous classes to draw our charts, we converted the classes to continuous classes and that has no impact on the number of leaves in any class. Hope it is clear now.
One more point, if we try to further increase the size of every class that will not be possible because we cannot have classes like 20-25 and 24-29 because here data is overlapping in these two classes. For example where should we consider the entry of 24.5? It lies well inside both the classes.
