Jason, do you have a link to a video on the proper way to set up your drives for storing all information for each project efficiently? Thanks!
I know I've got into on it somewhere, but I don't remember what video, lol. I think I'll make a new video about it. Could be helpful for people. Stay tuned!
Jay, fantastic tip for a Tuesday. Running several mics at a time these days while filming and recording VO will definitely see this problem from time to time. Law of averages, you know!
Thanks! For sure, we all run into issues and part of being able to troubleshoot is knowing what the options are. 😜
Hey Jason, great to see you again. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks! More fun stuff on the way!
true, better prevent, than repair a clipping vocal. But what to do if you have a clipping vocal recording? is there a fix for that? I don't think so. just Overdub, right?
You cant recover information that isn’t there
I’d just cut it out, use some b-roll and a voiceover if possible. Or re-record it.
Thanks! Please do one on too low volume.
You're welcome! You mean if the input levels are too low when trying to record? You can use the same method to increase the volume also. Then you can always boost it some more when you set your levels and use FX in editing.
Excellent as always sir 😁🙏🤘
Thanks Gary!
Another great video. 👌 Let‘s assume I recorded my voice and got a little too close to the mic, resulting in peaking audio here and there. Which of your videos should I watch when I want to make it sound less echoey/scratchy? The majority of the recording’s fine, mind you. Many thanks in advance!
I'd probably just make a cut around that section, drop it into a new track, then try and make it better on it's own track. I've got lots of videos that touch on a lot of things that might help, not sure of a specific one to recommend though....🤔
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I‘ll try just that! 😊
This is amazing, when ever i recorded into resolve it always sounded like my audio was at like -20 db but now i can level it out and even turn the dial while im recording im prob not gonna do that too much but it's great i can.
Awesome, glad it was helpful!
A good thing to know if live concerts are a lot different from the rehearsal audio
👍
Thank you very much. You are the best instructor. Another question is if I can connect DAW(input)to Davinci directly in my computer? I sing a song with guitar and mix with DAW. While watching my CG animation, I want to sing and record it in Davinci.
You should be able to, I would think. Here's a video on how I multi-track record into Resolve: ua-cam.com/video/h2BJssTmUbc/v-deo.html
You could also just use an audio interface w/ multiple inputs and record all those inputs into DaVinci Resolve.
You are so kind. I have a different channel as a UA-camr. I will recommend your channel to everybody. @@JasonYadlovski
Thanks! I appreciate you!
I use Logic Pro X, it has a Movie Track you can open up as an option to help you do what you’re asking. I’m sure many other DAW’s have the same feature.
Great video as always, Jason! Fyi, iZotope RX's de-clip feature (included in their basic Elements version) does a pretty good job at taming the worst of a hot recording.
Thanks! I’ve got to try some iZotope stuff, I’ve heard lots of good things.
@@JasonYadlovski it was a major quality of life improvement for me as a VO artist. Mouth De-Click alone was worth the price of admission for the Standard version!
Nice! Yeah, I've got to reach out to them. 😁
So its just like a pad on a soundboard. Interesting. Any advice for cleaning up blow outs in Post?
There's not a whole lot you can do. Ideally re-record it. 😜 I'd probably just drop the volume down in the blow out parts or cut it out all together, depending on how it sounds. In my case, there's only a few spots were it clipped, so I think it's manageable. But I certainly made a mental note for next time. 😁
You'd need special software for de-cliping. The company Accusonus was bought by Meta/Facebook and stopped making audio plugins so they released their entire line for free, which includes a de-clipper. Their website is no longer availble, but I got the installer from an audio youtuber Amner Hunter. He has a video on it and google drive links in the description for both PC and Mac.
@@JasonYadlovski Ugh, my comment was blocked for trying to recommend a product for de-clipping. Are you able to see it and approve it Jason? UA-cam is getting to be unusable anymore, this happens all the time. Why can't we recommend tech products on a tech channel? 😠
Ok @@JasonYadlovski so we seem to be on the same page. Being a former live sound engineer I know better than to let levels pin but it has happaned with these new wireless lav's because there was no way to meter the levels. I had to do trial and error to find a happy medium. Was just curious if you had some super secret way to clean that up.
@@tattoosinreview I just tried again to reply but youtube still blocked my comment. You need special software to do de-clipping. I have tried multiple times to recommend one that is legally at no charge, but youtube keeps blocking it for some stupid reason. I don't know how to provide the information without getting blocked.
Companion question ... the dummy (me) who recorded the audio not only made it too hot, but it was "flat topped" (=> distortion, etc) in spots. No opportunity to re-record the clip. Is there a way to "fix" this audio so it isn't quite as "offensive" to the ears?
If it’s clipped, the only thing you might be able to do is just make it quieter, but I don’t think it’ll remove the distortion. iZotope has a de-clip tool, I haven’t used it, but maybe that would work.
Another option, if possible is just to do a voiceover with B roll for that section
@@JasonYadlovski That in the Rx10 product. At $1200 (on sale for $600) ... WAY out of my price range, especially considering how often (like almost never) I would have to use it.
Thank you for the idea. I think I'll just use the voice-over idea ... or re-record the entire clip.
**Thanks for your timely response.**
It is so very unusual (and refreshing) in this world where folks are very quick to ignore for the moment and then forget to respond. 🙂
I do my best to get back to everyone! 😜 Helping people is one of the main reasons I started my channel. 😁
@@JasonYadlovski Me, too! In fact, it was my ONLY reason.
I never ever have trouble with my audio levels, because I simply use logic Pro instead of Fairlight. Fairlight in a lot of ways is a cluster fuck… Logic pro just makes so much more sense and so much easier to use. And then I take my audio from logic Pro and put it into resolve. They really need to simplify Fairlight. Too many button pushes to do the simplest things. And their EQ cannot even touch logic pros EQ. I know you love the program and you’re passionate about it… But it’s just not as intuitive as it should be.
It will get there in time I’m sure. Little by little progress is being made. These other programs have been around much longer. We’ll see what the future brings!
