I have one and its one of the best in its price range. The build quality is really very good, no fret sprouts and pretty comfortable to play. Great for a beginner, hobby player, or just to noodle on. I do not think that you would regret getting one.
I have the lefthand 4string and especially played live, over a PA this bass is a monster and super tight in the lowmids ... for that price, its a WINNER!
What I love about the StingRay'ish basses - is theirs whip-like attack. I own a cheap basswood body Eko MM300, upgraded with a 2-band StingRay preamp instead of passive 2V 1T setup - it sings pretty well now.
Been trying to decide between the Ray and a few other basses. This video has convinced me the Ray is probs the one. Nice to see some funky fingerstyle and not just slapping.
Sounds like a jazz bass with bridge pick up only...I couldn't hear any low frequencies. Maybe it's good for slapping and playing funk ,but I will never replace this for p or j bass...

agreed . one trick pony that a jazz can get close to (if not better) + more options with its double pickups
