The 1911 was used in any war since 1902 when the arms started getting them developed and tested...they bought the final contracts in 1911...hence the name 1911.
My dad was a gunsmith for 50 plus years. He's been gone since April 4th of 21. He built a custom colt commander. It's all fitted parts and shoots great. I have a comp barrel for it that makes this thing shoot like a 38 special. Happy New Year, Mark.
I do like 1911s and have a Para Ordinance 14/45 (wide body) and another Para Ordinance single stack 45 ACP I will pick up soon. Also a Rock Island 1911 in 22 TCM and 9mm its a fine pistol and shoots like a dream. The 22TCM is about like a 5.7. Owned a Tisas 1911 when they first came out and it was a solid shooter.
I started out liking plastic fantastic, but not going as far as Glock, I bought a Walther P99. Now I prefer to carry a Beretta and have a National Match Series 80 for competition.
I just got back into 1911s. I Have some pretty nifty carry guns ... Ruger 57, FN FNX .45, Taurus 1911 .45 ... I now carry a Rock Island Armory in 10 mm. There's just something comfortable about carrying something that always feels familiar. When the Florida weather comes back I may fall out of love, but, for now ......
Show off! I totally understand, I too own a half dozen special 1911’s in various forms. As a retired machinists and engine builder the genius of John Mosses Browning I what fascinates me the most. Super basic physics at a time before CAD & CNC and to this very day there isn’t an auto loading pistol that doesn’t take cues from the 1911. Guess that makes me a Fudd also. Nothing stays around for over 100 years and not be only good but the best. I own a few polymer guns but to me they’re simply throw aways. As a carry weapon should it ever need to used it’s now evidence, none of my 1911’s will ever see the inside of an evidence locker. I appreciate your tribute to one of the most prolific machines ever invented. Happy New year!
When i first started carrying concealed, i started with a Colt 1911 (80 series) in stainless. I trained CONSTANTLY, drawing, shooting four, then reholstering, over and over and over. A few years back i "upgraded" my collection and started carrying a 2.0 in 9mm. This year I dusted off the old 45 and started carrying it again, but this time in a shoulder rig. I started training with the now changed draw and realized that I'm still dead on with it four times in a row.
To me there's 1911s, then everything else. I've shot a number of different types of pistols, but I always come back to the 1911 platform. I still have the PARA ORDNANCE 1911s I got back in the 90s. One of them I converted to 45 Super!
Loved using it as a sidearm in the Army. When I bought my first pistol it was a 1911A1 in (forgive me John Moses Browning) 9mm. I got it because of my familiarity with the platform and I remembered how to field strip it after 40 years (thanks Drill Sgt Cobb) and was still fairly accurate, too. I would have preferred it in .45 but the only ones the store had were more than twice what I paid for the one I got.
JMB didn't choose the caliber anyway (although he designed that too), the U.S. army did. Military trial prototypes were chambered in .38 ACP until the 1905.
I own a couple of 1911's. One is a Springfield Armory double stack (that's right, 14+1) made in 1983 and my Kimber Tactical Pro II that is one of my carry guns.
The first time I ever took my daughter to the range, she absolutely loved firing my AR15A2 but was a little bit rattled after she sent a few rounds downrange with my M1911A1 which she said "has a really big jump", haha
My first 1911 was a Llama commander sized model. It was not Milspec but I made Winson Combat parts fit it anyway. I got one of their triggers in there and the grip safety with the beavertail. It just took some sanding and filing from what I remember. I also made a rubber wrap-around grip fit it. I think that required some welding, drilling and tapping because they put the grip screws about half a hole off from every other 1911. When I went to Bowling Green Ky for one of my job interviews for the Corvette plant, the girl I had just stopped dating broke into my apartment and stole it. Years later she told me she traded it for some crack rocks to a crack dealer. All of my custom gunsmithing down the tubes.
10mm loads can vary from less spice than 40 S&w to damn near .357 power, so comparisons to 45 ACP are a bit fraught. My scariest 1911 story is mine. I bought some "+P" rounds from a local "boutique manufacturer", now defunct, at a gun show. Didn't know anything about overpressure signs or typical muzzle velocity at the time. Ran a couple mags through Willy nilly. The primers that weren't ironed flat ruptured. My Ruger 1911 held, but I'm sure I shortened it's life.
My first handgun was a P226, a couple of others followed, then picked up a 4" 1911 and it became my favorite. Easy for EDC, exceptionally accurate. Since then a few more calibers and pistols. All shoot well, none as accurately as the .45. I've only shot a few thousand rounds through it and maybe a couple thousand through my 9mm's. Love the 1911 in .45ACP. Side note, your Delta Elite was the first competition against the Bren Ten 10mm, it was also the first to fail with that original high pressure loading of 10mm. The Bren Ten was built around that high pressure 200gr bullet at 1250fps. I remember reading it was around 50,000psi. The resurrected 10mm today is no more than 38,000psi, your Delta Elite should eat those easily.
Very nice collection. Not a 1911, but I picked up a 1903 Pocket Hammer in .38 Auto a few years back. Think Commander length 1902. Pivoting barrel, no external safeties and in decent condition. I saw it in a local shop and got it for a decent price. Even came with two magazines. I already reload for .38 Super so I was able to work up some loads for it. I was able to find a source for .38 Auto marked cases, but they won't ship to my state, so having a local dealer get them for me. Shoots really good for a 100 year old gun. My favorite 1911 is my 1978 Combat Commander in .38 Super. It was a mess when I got it but is very nice now, thanks to a local smith who specializes in Colts.
Thanks for showing it, the WWI 1911 is actually amazing, it is very very rare to see the original finish in that condition. The 1967 National Match is the best 1911 one can get, I have exactly the same model from the same year, all the parts are fitted much better than at any other Colt 1911 till this day.
I have two "1911's". A Kimber Pro Carry Series 1, and a fully custom John Jardine Valtro 1998A1. The Valtro is insane. Smooth like glass, and it's a high mirror polish blued finish. I love old steel guns. I'm 37, but I act like a 78 year old.
Excellent timing. Went out to the shop a few hrs ago and decided I needed to reload some 45acp. Hadn’t loaded much in a while and spent some time switching the press over and made up a few test loads only to come in to this video of some nice colts.

First pistol i was old enough tobuy, was a 1927 Argentine, built on Colt tooling, idential to an A-1 model. Got it 2nd hand from a shop, someone had put big target sights for Bullseye on it.I campaigned with it in IPSC in the 80's, in a homemade holster and mag pouches... still got it, I'm 70 now and still enjoy it!
A chef engineer on a boat I worked on mailed one back to his wife from Korea during the war he hid it inside of a Japanese radio he moved the electronics up and made a false bottom anyway she had it and the radio when he got home.
Based on the markings on your dad's pistol, Grandpa for sure didn't buy it from a hardware store. Being marked with "M1911 US Army" on the slide, and "US Property" and Ordnance Department inspector initials on the frame, that gun was definitely made for military contract. The equivalent pistol being produced for the civilian market at the time was marked "Colt .45 Automatic" on the slide and "Government Model" on the frame without any inspector initials. Grandpa in all likelihood took it home with him after WWI, and he wouldn't have been alone. Hundreds of thousands of M1911's grew legs and walked off in that era, such that it was a major contributing factor to the pistol shortage when the US entered WWI, not just because of low procurement because the US military was tiny at the time. The shortage was also the reason for the oddity which is the Colt and S&W M1917 revolvers chambered in .45 ACP with half-moon clips. Thanks for sharing your collection with us. I had to go look. My grandfather's M1911 is marked the same way. And he definitely bought it at a hardware store. Because the handwritten receipt is in the box. Officers could supply their own sidearm. Or be issued an M1917 . Witch, I also have.
Yes, I'm very familiar with the practice of officers having to provide sidearms at their own expense, @@steveb6103, in addition to their uniforms, insignia, and field equipment. It's a tradition which dates back to at least to the knights of Medieval times, if not earlier. If an officer did purchase an M1911 pistol, or any pistol, from the government, then the receipt coming with it would have been from the government, not some hardware store, because that would mean said hardware store was dealing in stolen government property. And why would a US Army officer buy stolen government property to use while in military service?
Most likely purchased sometime well after the war surplus... as it was like the one he was issued by the military. The SN, 240xxx, which is very clear, indicates it was made in the last batch of Colts Govt contract for 1918.... Which means it was probably delivered too late to have been used in WW1.... also obviously wasn't purchased in 1917 like grandads story. These family stories often have little embellishments that grow over time.
Man that' 60's NM is *sweet*. I have one 1911, a full house custom CCO built on a Caspian frame and slide. I didn't commission it, some fool's dad did. They sold it on consignment for $400 at my LGS. :)
Thanks for sharing, my grandfather two favorite pistols were 1911 45ACP and 1903 32ACP, I will never forget the day he told me it’s time for me to shoot a man’s gun. He made me dry fire it a few times and then gave me a magazine with one round. The things that my grandfather shared with me and showed me helped form the person I am today. Best way to learn is round at a time until you can control all the recoil. Makes many jump first time. See one fire once that had a second go off near their face from recoil. Hard for the younger to control many times for sure!
I owen 2 1911's. A Ruger SR1911 full size in stainless and a Tisas 1911 Commander w/ cerakote. "A 9mm will take your life but, a 45ACP will take your soul".
1911’s are like 5 spd transmissions, not everybody can shoot them, or maintain them. Ken at C&S got one of my last Para 1911’s and we bobtailed it before everyone had ever seen an Ed Brown. That was his daily carry for almost a decade. 😂
I am a classic 1911 guy, so yea, that collection is awesome. I have 10mm Delta Elite that I have owned for the last 25 years and I LOVE it! Sounds weird, but I do. I carry a CZ, but my heart is with the 1911. Thanks for sharing, Mark.
An old man that I use to work with, a big gun nut that helped get me into guns, carried a Colt 1911 that he bought from the army for $15. He bought two of them for $15 each. Not long after that, they stopped selling them for that and started throwing them in the ocean. That's what he told me anyway.
I have two 1911’s and love them both. Sometimes I even carry one because I like them so much. Like many others, I don’t understand the divisiveness in our community. Guns are tools of Freedom. 1911's are still very nice and usually good quality. i am very interested in the development that spawned the 2011 wich solves many of the normal issues with the 1911, doublestack with more capacity. also since 9mm and .45 is somewhat comparable nowadays with the many offerings of 9mm pulling ahead in both performance and price and its possible now with 9mm 2011 to get that 1911 feel with modern capacity and performance.

The very first handgun I owned was a Colt Delta Elite in the Bright Polished Stainless Steel. I loved that Colt 1911, however the 10mm rounds were pretty hard on the slide/frame. Back in the 1990s the 10mm Winchester Silvertips were pushing 185gn JHP to 1,485 fps.
Years ago a new guy at the range (from New York) went to a gun store thinking to buy a _Combat Elite_ but was instead sold a _Delta Elite_ by an unscrupulous salesman (The 10mm Delta Elite at the time wasn't selling at all). He hated the gun and the fact that he just got hoodwinked by a guy whose last job was at a bowling alley. The shooter in the next booth overhead his whining and took the piece off his hands for a hundred bucks. True story.

Now i doubt the government here would even let plastic bb pews through customs, even if we got an army crossing the channel invading Britain. Not for the general public anyway. But hay ho. I built a a1/a2 hybrid clone if that makes any sense lol. Built from scratch with a original colt virgin parts kit and slide with Caspian frame. It was by far the hardest labor of love I've ever crafted into something that goes bang. I shot it 7 times because it's to pretty and I'm to proud. She is now queen of the safe lol

Look into Tisas and Rock Island. Avoid Taurus. Rugers are still reasonably priced too sometimes, and those are series 70 but drop safe due to their titanium firing pins.

God man I love my 9mm.. Not a huge fan of 45 but it'll still do what it did 100 years ago before we had really stanky powders. I'm more of a 10mm fan if I'm gonna go bigger than 9mm but as ya said: a gun's a gun. It'll take care of what ails ya. I can't tell ya how many people I've had try to tell me that they got a 40 s&w because 9mm just isn't enough gun. I just laugh at them. Anyway, happy new year man. Very cool, loved seeing the 1911's. My only 1911 is an STI Elektra .45acp. It's an officer size gun and it shoots beautifully. Reliability is excellent which proves that small 1911's can definitely be made to be reliable when they are properly made.
I catch flak for my .38 Super. Seriously these caliber wars are silly. If people knew that i can change it over to a 9x23mm Winchester, they would freak out. Nice collection, Mark.

On my 21st birthday in 2002, after returning from Afghanistan the month prior I purchased my first handgun from the PX at main side Camp Pendleton. Ironically prior to being 21 I could shoot rockets and set demo charges but in California I needed to wait like a month to get a 1911… still cool that I bought it at the PX….It was a Springfield mil spec 1911a1. I still have it and shoot it regularly and carry it occasionally. I’ve replaced the grips and replaced the grip safety with a Wilson combat drop in beaver tail and commander hammer. I also have a marvel 22 conversion kit for it that is a real hoot.

I have a true Colt manufactured 1911A1 as a government issued service arm. Yes it is a parkerized finish as the way issue came. It was reworked at the Rock Island Arsenal for a target arm so they mounted adjustable sights and could handle military target loads. At 76 it is still my favorite gun.
I have a SIG TTT (Two-Tone Target), and as far as I can tell, the only mechanical difference between it and a typical 1911 is that it has an external extractor. Otherwise, it’s accurate, has nice sights, and is reliable. Only thing I might change is adding an ambi safety, but since it’s a range gun, i’m not in any hurry.
Gotta love the 1911 in .45ACP. One of the, if not the most iconic pistols ever. You don't even have to be American to acknowledge it's a masterpiece. And anyone saying it's crap is full of it... One day I'm gonna have me one like yours. Really beautiful collection.
A few decades ago, as an FFL, I bought a Parker Arms (out of Wyoming?) 1911-platform 10mm. That thing was a blast (pun intended) to shoot. Also owned a Colt 70-Series that I traded a worn out CAR-15 for. Love the nostalgia and history associated with the 1911.
the sad part is I don't even own a 1911. I think they are timeless classic, and just a work of art. in all honesty, it was always capacity that stopped me from getting one. however that is still no excuse not to have at least 1 in a cache/collection.
I do enjoy the 1911 pistol in 45acp. I have two Springfields a Custom Loaded and a stainless 😱Mil-Spec. I also have other types of semi auto pistols and two revolvers in 45acp. The best caliber is the one you can reliably hit the target with. Thank you for sharing your wonderful 1911 collection and the excellent display stand.
When my grandson turned 21, he wanted a 9mm. I loaned him a Kimber I inherited from my dad while I searched for a 9. Well, he became a 1911 fan boy so I guess the Kimber is his now. 😂

That is perfect! 70yrs of us govt service....there has to be a reason. If a guy wants more "power" then build your gun to shoot 45 super and you will achieve 41 mag to 44mag energy. The 1911 is a beautiful handgun! John moses Browning is a national treasure, so many firearms are of a browning design that most people dont know or realize. I know you do, I just felt like reiterating. 😊

I was a unit armorer with the 16th MASH, Ft Riley. Even the nurses qualified on and carried M1911’s. Beautiful weapons.

I have a nice 1944 Remington Rand 1911 from CMP. It's one of my keep'ems.
As a Recon Marine i carried qualified expert and used my MEUSOC .45 then M45A1 for many years in combat, it always worked and worked great.

I was able to find a source for .38 Auto marked cases, but they won't ship to my state, so having a local dealer get them for me. Shoots really good for a 100 year old gun. My favorite 1911 is my 1978 Combat Commander in .38 Super. It was a mess when I got it but is very nice now, thanks to a local smith who specializes in Colts.
Thanks for showing it, the WWI 1911 is actually amazing, it is very very rare to see the original finish in that condition. The 1967 National Match is the best 1911 one can get, I have exactly the same model from the same year, all the parts are fitted much better than at any other Colt 1911 till this day.
I have two "1911's". A Kimber Pro Carry Series 1, and a fully custom John Jardine Valtro 1998A1. The Valtro is insane. Smooth like glass, and it's a high mirror polish blued finish. I love old steel guns. I'm 37, but I act like a 78 year old.
I have a cheap rock island and love it supposedly they were made on old colt machines.
I like every caliber. If it goes boom it's cool. I would like a 10mm 1911.

Excellent timing. Went out to the shop a few hrs ago and decided I needed to reload some 45acp. Hadn’t loaded much in a while and spent some time switching the press over and made up a few test loads only to come in to this video of some nice colts.

First pistol i was old enough tobuy, was a 1927 Argentine, built on Colt tooling, idential to an A-1 model. Got it 2nd hand from a shop, someone had put big target sights for Bullseye on it.I campaigned with it in IPSC in the 80's, in a homemade holster and mag pouches... still got it, I'm 70 now and still enjoy it!

A chef engineer on a boat I worked on mailed one back to his wife from Korea during the war he hid it inside of a Japanese radio he moved the electronics up and made a false bottom anyway she had it and the radio when he got home.
Based on the markings on your dad's pistol, Grandpa for sure didn't buy it from a hardware store. Being marked with "M1911 US Army" on the slide, and "US Property" and Ordnance Department inspector initials on the frame, that gun was definitely made for military contract. The equivalent pistol being produced for the civilian market at the time was marked "Colt .45 Automatic" on the slide and "Government Model" on the frame without any inspector initials. Grandpa in all likelihood took it home with him after WWI, and he wouldn't have been alone. Hundreds of thousands of M1911's grew legs and walked off in that era, such that it was a major contributing factor to the pistol shortage when the US entered WWI, not just because of low procurement because the US military was tiny at the time. The shortage was also the reason for the oddity which is the Colt and S&W M1917 revolvers chambered in .45 ACP with half-moon clips.

I had to go look. My grandfather's M1911 is marked the same way. And he definitely bought it at a hardware store. Because the handwritten receipt is in the box. Officers could supply their own sidearm. Or be issued an M1917 . Witch, I also have.
Yes, I'm very familiar with the practice of officers having to provide sidearms at their own expense, @@steveb6103, in addition to their uniforms, insignia, and field equipment. It's a tradition which dates back to at least to the knights of Medieval times, if not earlier. If an officer did purchase an M1911 pistol, or any pistol, from the government, then the receipt coming with it would have been from the government, not some hardware store, because that would mean said hardware store was dealing in stolen government property. And why would a US Army officer buy stolen government property to use while in military service?
Most likely purchased sometime well after the war surplus... as it was like the one he was issued by the military. The SN, 240xxx, which is very clear, indicates it was made in the last batch of Colts Govt contract for 1918.... Which means it was probably delivered too late to have been used in WW1.... also obviously wasn't purchased in 1917 like grandads story. These family stories often have little embellishments that grow over time.
Man that' 60's NM is *sweet*. I have one 1911, a full house custom CCO built on a Caspian frame and slide. I didn't commission it, some fool's dad did. They sold it on consignment for $400 at my LGS. :)
Thanks for sharing, my grandfather two favorite pistols were 1911 45ACP and 1903 32ACP, I will never forget the day he told me it’s time for me to shoot a man’s gun. He made me dry fire it a few times and then gave me a magazine with one round. The things that my grandfather shared with me and showed me helped form the person I am today. Best way to learn is round at a time until you can control all the recoil. Makes many jump first time. See one fire once that had a second go off near their face from recoil. Hard for the younger to control many times for sure!
I owen 2 1911's. A Ruger SR1911 full size in stainless and a Tisas 1911 Commander w/ cerakote. "A 9mm will take your life but, a 45ACP will take your soul".

1911’s are like 5 spd transmissions, not everybody can shoot them, or maintain them. Ken at C&S got one of my last Para 1911’s and we bobtailed it before everyone had ever seen an Ed Brown. That was his daily carry for almost a decade. 😂
I am a classic 1911 guy, so yea, that collection is awesome. I have 10mm Delta Elite that I have owned for the last 25 years and I LOVE it! Sounds weird, but I do. I carry a CZ, but my heart is with the 1911. Thanks for sharing, Mark.
The CZ75 is basically brownings last design perfected, it's what you can take that's best from a Hi Power and improving it.

1911A1 was the standard. I'm still good with one. Poly frame guns are harder to shoot for me.
An old man that I use to work with, a big gun nut that helped get me into guns, carried a Colt 1911 that he bought from the army for $15. He bought two of them for $15 each. Not long after that, they stopped selling them for that and started throwing them in the ocean. That's what he told me anyway.
I have two 1911’s and love them both. Sometimes I even carry one because I like them so much. Like many others, I don’t understand the divisiveness in our community. Guns are tools of Freedom. We shouldn’t be trying to beat each other down over trivial issues like what caliber one chooses. We get enough of that garbage already.

1911's are still very nice and usually good quality.
i am very interested in the development that spawned the 2011 wich solves many of the normal issues with the 1911, doublestack with more capacity.
also since 9mm and .45 is somewhat comparable nowadays with the many offerings of 9mm pulling ahead in both performance and price and its possible now with 9mm 2011 to get that 1911 feel with modern capacity and performance.

The very first handgun I owned was a Colt Delta Elite in the Bright Polished Stainless Steel.
I loved that Colt 1911, however the 10mm rounds were pretty hard on the slide/frame.
Back in the 1990s the 10mm Winchester Silvertips were pushing 185gn JHP to 1,485 fps.
Years ago a new guy at the range (from New York) went to a gun store thinking to buy a _Combat Elite_ but was instead sold a _Delta Elite_ by an unscrupulous salesman (The 10mm Delta Elite at the time wasn't selling at all). He hated the gun and the fact that he just got hoodwinked by a guy whose last job was at a bowling alley. The shooter in the next booth overhead his whining and took the piece off his hands for a hundred bucks. True story.

I looked at the Delta Elite and the Gold Cup a couple of years. Just couldn't talk myself into them. I did buy the Kimber custom classic.
I built a a1/a2 hybrid clone if that makes any sense lol. Built from scratch with a original colt virgin parts kit and slide with Caspian frame. It was by far the hardest labor of love I've ever crafted into something that goes bang. I shot it 7 times because it's to pretty and I'm to proud. She is now queen of the safe lol

Look into Tisas and Rock Island. Avoid Taurus. Rugers are still reasonably priced too sometimes, and those are series 70 but drop safe due to their titanium firing pins.

I used to have a raven 25acp. Ammo was expensive but the gun worked better than a lot of cheap 22lr pistols.

I bought a Gold Cup National Match in mat stainless. Love that gun. Got it new in 1995.
Very cool, loved seeing the 1911's. My only 1911 is an STI Elektra .45acp. It's an officer size gun and it shoots beautifully. Reliability is excellent which proves that small 1911's can definitely be made to be reliable when they are properly made.
I catch flak for my .38 Super. Seriously these caliber wars are silly. If people knew that i can change it over to a 9x23mm Winchester, they would freak out. Nice collection, Mark.

On my 21st birthday in 2002, after returning from Afghanistan the month prior I purchased my first handgun from the PX at main side Camp Pendleton. Ironically prior to being 21 I could shoot rockets and set demo charges but in California I needed to wait like a month to get a 1911… still cool that I bought it at the PX….It was a Springfield mil spec 1911a1. I still have it and shoot it regularly and carry it occasionally. I’ve replaced the grips and replaced the grip safety with a Wilson combat drop in beaver tail and commander hammer. I also have a marvel 22 conversion kit for it that is a real hoot.

I have a true Colt manufactured 1911A1 as a government issued service arm. Yes it is a parkerized finish as the way issue came. It was reworked at the Rock Island Arsenal for a target arm so they mounted adjustable sights and could handle military target loads. At 76 it is still my favorite gun.
I have a SIG TTT (Two-Tone Target), and as far as I can tell, the only mechanical difference between it and a typical 1911 is that it has an external extractor. Otherwise, it’s accurate, has nice sights, and is reliable. Only thing I might change is adding an ambi safety, but since it’s a range gun, i’m not in any hurry.
Gotta love the 1911 in .45ACP. One of the, if not the most iconic pistols ever. You don't even have to be American to acknowledge it's a masterpiece. And anyone saying it's crap is full of it... One day I'm gonna have me one like yours. Really beautiful collection.
A few decades ago, as an FFL, I bought a Parker Arms (out of Wyoming?) 1911-platform 10mm. That thing was a blast (pun intended) to shoot. Also owned a Colt 70-Series that I traded a worn out CAR-15 for. Love the nostalgia and history associated with the 1911.
The indoor bullet trap always cracks me up, love it. I would love to get a 1911 someday, one of my "collection goals" guns.

the sad part is I don't even own a 1911. I think they are timeless classic, and just a work of art. in all honesty, it was always capacity that stopped me from getting one. however that is still no excuse not to have at least 1 in a cache/collection.

I do enjoy the 1911 pistol in 45acp. I have two Springfields a Custom Loaded and a stainless 😱Mil-Spec. I also have other types of semi auto pistols and two revolvers in 45acp. 70yrs of us govt service....there has to be a reason. If a guy wants more "power" then build your gun to shoot 45 super and you will achieve 41 mag to 44mag energy. The 1911 is a beautiful handgun! John moses Browning is a national treasure, so many firearms are of a browning design that most people dont know or realize. I know you do, I just felt like reiterating. 😊
