So heartbreaking 😢 What an amazing performance from both of them, but, my goodness, Jonas Kaufmann is so magnificent in this. His Carlos breaks my heart.

Act 2, Scene 2 Grand Scena and Duet, from Don Carlos French version. Very beautifully sung and it is really heart-breaking. In this version Elizabeth is more severe. In the 2013 Salzberg Festival DVD (my favorite) Elizabetta doesn't slap Don Carlo.
Does anyone know where I can purchase the full version for download? I love, LOVE this performance and since the full length got taken down, I really miss it.

If you are able to watch the whole performance, you will see that they are in fact in a room at the palace.

Just dreadful. This is not Verdi. I like Kaufmann but Verdi is not for him. So unnatural. Nothing could be worse than this setting. Go to Alagna and Matilla, also sung in french, for a true verdian account of this masterpiece.
I don't agree. If you watch the whole thing (available on OPERA ON VIDEO) you will get a clearer idea of the production and how it works......I absolutely LOVED it. (And yes, I loved Luc Bondy's production with Alagna and Mattila as well).
Le français de Kaufmann est parfait tant pour le style musical que pour la langue. Demandez à Alagna, il vous le dira !
