MATER SUSPIRORIUM MATER LACRIMARUM MATER TENEBRARUM but people simply call us DEATH (it's a quote from the original italian version, is it the same in english?)
MATER SUSPIRIORUM MATER LACRIMARUM MATER TENEBRARUM But Men call us by a single name.....a name which strikes fear into everyone's hearts.....they call Us....DEATH!
It used to be my least favorite of Argento's better movies, now it's one of my absolute favorites. What people don't understand about it is that there is no sense needed in evil. And that is what this movie is telling. It is full with subtle metaphors and quotes from classic cinema as well as Argento's own movies. A beautiful cinematic oniric vision. Visually to me it is one of the greatest movies ever made.
+Michael Joesph then it seems you belong to the people who need the meaning of the movie explained in a sentence. Like a victim while assaulted crying: "oh my gawd, why are you doing that, I did nothing to you. Well, I guess that means that evil doesn't necessarily serve a purpose and that it's just a part of nature. I die." Sorry, that is not how a good movie is done. That is how Michael Bay movies are done. If you don't like metaphors, then I guess you should stay away from every form of art. BTW the meaning of the movie in this case is not even that important. It's more like walking through an art gallery watching pictures.
+Michael Joesph well I disagree. Not obvious doesn't mean not well done. It took me multiple views of the movie to understand that part of the message, but that wasn't the movie's fault. Once I got it, it was as obvious as can be. Sometimes to understand some forms of art you just need to reach a certain maturity. Since it doesn't come from your mind, it might take you some time to figure out what was going through the artists mind. Nothing wrong with that. 2001: a space odissey is regarded to be one of the greatest movies of all time, and nobody really knows what is it about, chances are Kubrick himself had no clue.
While most horror movies dealing with religion just end up being the same crap about how nonbelievers should have heeded some prophecy and now you're all doomed, Inferno took a different spin on it, making it so much more memorable. This song playing while our, um, hero scoots through a crawl space on his butt beautifully drives home the message that if you dig beneath the surface, we're all just terrified of not knowing what happens after death. Brilliant.
The thing is, I don't think the Susperia films really deal so much with "religion". There may be some satanic-ish elements, but really it's just three immortal witches fucking up the planet. I don't remember them mentioning the devil much.
I would LOVE to know what the 20th Century Fox executives were smoking when they greenlit "Inferno". It is still one of the most unique and totally bizarre films to come out of a big studio!
Need to revisit Inferno. I liked it well enough, but was a bit lukewarm on it. But so much of it has stuck with me over the years that I suspect I'll really like it on a second viewing.
I actually liked Inferno better than Susperia. Both were great, but I just thought the atmosphere and tension was more intense in Inferno than in Susperia.
Excellent film!! I had the opportunity to see this film in 1981. What a shame I haven't got it in dvd. I also had it in VHS many years ago. I really love the theme.Great Italian horror!!
You are right! When I saw the movie and listening to this particular song, I wanted to buy the collection At The Movies, by Keith Emerson. He is a genius :)
Dario Argento have made three connected movies , "Suspiria", "Inferno" and "The Mother of Tears". The connection is made by three characters, the three Sorrows: "Mater Lacrymarum, Our Lady of Tears", "Mater Suspiriorum, Our Lady of Sighs" and "Mater Tenebrarum, Our Lady of Darkness". The names are in Latin, the ancient language, so are the words in this music. I can't hear well all the words, only some, that made me understand that is a pray directed to the three Mothers.
i wish dario had finished the three mothers during his golden period. tenebre was good but imagine how awesome the mother of tears had been if it had been done instead of tenebre... =]
Okay, you got a point there. It's not the actual main title, but it's a piece taken from Inferno and made into an epic synth track. It's basically a theme that goes through the movie. The video description doesn't claim it to be Inferno, just a theme.
yeah, i know that, but what i mean is that Inferno and Suspiria were about the same theme and both are about the same theme, and have the same atmosphere
I liked Inferno, but I think the ending could have been better. I wanted to see more of the Mother of Darkness as well. Not enough screen time on her part. Music and coloring was great, and I love the Lucifer-like white cat.
Oh,I understand, arpionatore, sorry so much!! Don't you get worried. Thanks a lot again, and will be expecting for any answer from you. Take care, and big,big hugs from Mexico, too!!
Ascoltare questo brano senza aver visto ancora il film....Anticipa lo spettatore a cosa andrà incontro. Solo la colonna sonora(con le contropalle)fa venire l ansia.
did u guys know that Daria wrote a script for the third film in the 80's and they where in the process of sorting effects etc out but then the relationship between Dario and Daria went sour and it never happened. because of an argument we now have to live with - i'm sorry Dario - the piece of shit which is 'mother of tears'. It could have been so amazing and would have been made over 20 years ago (lets pray there is a prequel or remake of the third someday and that Daria is heavily involved)
If this song doesn't make you want to crawl through a cramped crawlspace to find out the secret to a witchy secret, then I don't know what does.
the song sounds like a dramatic gothic version of Bohemian Rapsody from the Queens
MATER...

LACRIMARUM...
TENEBRARUM...
MATER SUSPIRORIUM
MATER LACRIMARUM
MATER TENEBRARUM
but people simply call us

Yes

RIP Keith Emerson . A true master.

+Michael Joesph If people aren't able to understand it from the rat scene it's not the movies fault. It's clear as can be.

+Michael Joesph so if you did figure it out, why are you even complaining about ambiguity? This makes no sense at all.
+Michael Joesph and you are complaining about amibiguity and then you write a comment like that? You must be a troll. Cheerio, fella.
Dario argento is the best
What a terrefic theme and movie. One of argento's best.
Musica del demonio👹🔥bella
the song sounds like a dramatic gothic version of Bohemian Rapsody from the Queens
this soundtrack always remind me to castlevania

Rest in peace Keith Emerson.
Inferno was a bizarre film to watch, but hot dang if this isn't the best Disco Witch Building Fire Song of all time!
Mamma mia, what a great theme!
this theme will never age....great haunting score
LOVE this soundtrack!
Probably my second favourite Argento theme. Right after "Profondo Rosso"
Always wanted a replica of that mask. .-.
Bonkers music to a bonkers movie! Like Euro Discoteque Horror. You can dance to it and be terrified at the same time.
混声合唱とエマーソンのキーボードの絡みがかっこよすぎる!
賛成っす
Grande Dario grazie di esistere 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Il diavolo che canta!
Inferno is an absolute masterpiece!!!
The very FIRST horror I'd seen in my life, that made my sleep with my parents for a week!
except that spontaneuosly stupid ending.
Now there
Yes, giallos are greats but about masterpiece, i don't know? I prefer master of cult, Lucio Fulci even better.
King Diamond I’m watching him and Argento for the Scaretember/Halloween Season
A Masterpiece
sounds like an 80's video game theme.... until the singing
GoFuckYourself123345 the singing makes it sound like commodore amiga lol
Sounds like something from a castlevania game
the song sounds like a dramatic gothic version of Bohemian Rapsody from the Queens
Love Argento
Me to man
I would LOVE to know what the 20th Century Fox executives were smoking when they greenlit "Inferno". It is still one of the most unique and totally bizarre films to come out of a big studio!

1.15: Bach's Passacaglia (bass line, and 1.46 again). Great Emerson, immortal Bach.
love this soundtrack
the suspiria soundtrack was so distinctive they just had to go a different direction for the sequel - and i think it turned out just fine.
This is awesome
They already made a reboot of the first movie with Dakota Johnson
Dario Argento have made three connected movies , "Suspiria", "Inferno" and "The Mother of Tears". "THE ROULETTE REGIME WAS HERE"
AWESOME song. I love how it includes mention of each of the Three Mothers. Where could one pick this song up?

Oh,I understand,arpionatore,sorry so much!!
Don't you get worried.
Thanks a lot again, and will be expecting for any answer from you.
Take care,and big,big hugs from Mexico,too!!
This needs an 8-bit version.
Ascoltare questo brano senza aver visto ancora il film....Anticipa lo spettatore a cosa andrà incontro. Solo la colonna sonora(con le contropalle)fa venire l ansia.
This sounds like it would play over an evil Rocky training montage.
gran pezzo !!!

Teil 2 der Trilogie...Hammermässig
@AlbaanmorSKR the song is singing the names of 'the three mothers' if you listen you will hear them: Mater Suspiriorum, Tenebrarum and Lachrymarum.
Makes me think of Phantasmagoria
"suspiria pales in comparison"
let me laugh hard at that...haha
I love but suspiria is a lot better
Christophe Michaud Michaud no way man inferno yellow eyes scene is better than everything in suspiria
