Mac Dre was actually the one who found Mac Mall and put Ray Luv on back in the days! Mac Dre went to prison in 1992 so he let Khyree put out Mac Mall and Ray Luvs albums on Young Black Brotha records

Bay Area artists were mainly independent, they had their more mainstream well known artists like Too Short, E-40, etc. Then they had the hood superstars like Mac dre, Mac Mall, Andre Nickatina etc. that stayed with underground rap/ gangsta mob style, Mac Dre was slowly moving away from that to a more wider appealing but still unique style before he passed. Bay area/Sacramento underground music is my favorite for their unique sounding gangsta beats, which really stand out.

Not saying SoCal does not have their own style but …. But… so much of the unique flavor of the bay was copied and recycled into mtv hits for the world by LA rappers and down south rappers while the bay remained its own beast with very unique style all alone with very few knowing about it in comparison. I remember growing up in the bay in the 80s and 90s and what we were doing and saying always ended up in LA 3 years later! And that was what got recognition internationally
