There is Power in the Blood

Blood has and has always been an intriguing and interesting part of human life. There are different types of blood, RH negative and positive blood, and there have been so many studies done on blood that all come out to say that life is in the blood. What the blood does in our bodies, the things it transports to the various organs and other important parts of our bodies, the healing it provides and the fact it is one color in our body and it changes color when it mixes with the air that we breathe, all of these things are so intriguing and interesting. Throughout history, many different experiments have been done with blood from blood letting which has ended in deaths because life is in the blood, to transfusions to keep people alive. Some cultures drink the blood of their victims believing that it strengthens them, gives them more life and helps them to live long and even become mortal. There is so much we can write on this subject but what I want us to look at and see from this message or sermon is the importance that God and His scriptures attach to blood. From the very beginning and throughout bible history God says life is in the blood, and he demonstrates that power is in the blood and that we should not ever drink the blood because life is in the blood. And yet the annals of history are full of cultures and practices with drinking blood, with offering blood sacrifices, cleansing by blood and many other sacred rituals performed with the inclusion of blood. The emphasis God puts on blood in His Word is just as intriguing in that it also was used if offering up sacrifices to Him. From the blood of Abel to the conclusion of the New Testament, blood was an integral part of the cleansing of sins, the appeasing of God’s anger against sin and his need for blood to redeem the sinner and purify the sinner. As we go through this sermon we will highlight these important points God has made about blood to help us understand why it is that atonement for sin by God requires blood.
