    The irony of posting this video right after a premier pro shortcuts video is not lost on me... but this was a long time coming and my Creative Cloud subscription was about to go back up to the expensive tier so I figured this was the best time to jump ship.
    What are some of your favorite apps you use to create content for your UA-cam channel?

    I am a creative professional that is going to retire on 12/31/22. I have been using Adobe product since their inception, and beta tested photoshop 1.0, Illustrator 1.0 and premiere from the get-go. However, now I'll be a casual user and simply can't justify the subscription bs. So, thank you for the detailed outline of alternatives. Although, it's ain't going to be easy making that break after investing 30+ years of working with their products.

    I use Affinity Photo, Designer, Publisher, DaVinci Resolve, Opentoonz, Darktable.. And Davinci Resolve Fusion gives options to do some motion graphics too. Never learned to use AE and I'm happy with nodes.

    Thanks Ryan. I'll look into Affinity Photo. I'm a DaVinci Resolve user (Free version) and given that also incorporates Fairlight (audio editing) and Fusion (VFX) it is a no-brainer. Well worth learning. And for anyone reading this and wondering - the studio version is definitely as good as Premiere Pro and in some ways better.

    For much of my photo work, probably use Krita more than I use Photoshop and Krita is a free app with 500+ filters and zillions of other features. A little clunky in places but I really like it. Clip Studio paint for drawing and comics work, still quite affordable. It is still up in the air whether I cancel my subscription to Adobe when it comes up to renewal as I do use it as a source for tutorials. I guess I could just go down to Photoshop / Lightroom bundle and cancel the rest as most video editing can be done in Resolve (free). Affinity's three apps are pretty good.

      I’m surprised they don’t have a content creator bundle - premier, photoshop and Lightroom. I imagine they realize this would be all they would sell and would be loosing out on revenue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I use Gimp as a PS replacement..... my issue is finding an alternative to Adobe Animate & Adobe Character Animator.... Blender is the only thing close and its an extremely difficult program to use for 2d animation.

    The difficult thing with after effects is that there isn’t really a direct comparison to a cheaper or really any program. Yes i know davinci has fusion graph but it lacks the graph editor wich makes ae just better for what i need. You make a really good point saying that if you only need to edit templates or some simple animations after effects would be overkill. Personally i needed a program to cut videos and edit effects and ae and pr were my choice but it would just be cheaper to eventually buy the full creative cloud. Plus i need my dynamic link for editing music videos.

    • @rowdysouthmedia
      @rowdysouthmedia  Рік тому +1

      There definitely is a target audience for CC - seems that your animations definitely fit the bill. Just a shame there aren’t many good alternatives r for animators

    • @EDENvfx
      @EDENvfx Рік тому +1

      @@rowdysouthmedia agreed. I guess that could be because of content creation the main programs like premiere got alot of alternatives now because it has a bigger reach. and programs like ae are left behind. Because they’re simply more used in the background if that makes sense.

    Such a sigh of relief to find alternatives. Not only has adobe been somewhat stingy of making upgrades. Even performance issues and I have a beast of a desktop loadout. To constantly have after effects AND Animate to just implode on itself every 30 minutes for what i pay for? Outrageous.

    I'm a big DV Resolve Studio advocate - the free version is awesome but the paid version takes it over the top! It's definitely not a 2nd tier product. It's better than Premiere in many ways (and in pricing) .
    I think people don't hate Adobe's products - they hate the subscription business model.
    Perhaps they should also offer a stand alone "elements' version like they used to have.
    Leave out the super fancy features (like content aware fill in photoshop) so people can get a decent product at a one off affordable price. So a competitor to Affinity, for example.

  • @samoerai6807
    @samoerai6807 Рік тому +1

    Very nice video! My only 2 problems are that affinity photo doesn’t support .dds and I don’t know about a way or plug-in to make it support it. Also, does Apple motion only work with Final Cut Pro? Also having a MacBook just for that one program seems kinda expensive

    As an professional myself, sure.. Affinity route is saving money. And yes, you can make great things with the software. But the road gets very bumpy when you work with other teams. Some probjects where a nightmare with my Affinity output, that needed to fit in an Adobe workspace where 99% of the teams/clients working in. I dont see these issues being discussed in all the "Affinty is so awesome" video's on YT.

    I've been a working photographer/videographer and a happy Adobe user for decades. While there are alternatives, some of which are excellent and even free, Adobe is far from a complete waste of money, as your opening states. I cannot afford the time for the kind of learning curves you are suggesting while trying to pinch pennies. For enthusiasts or casual users, sure, experiment and learn and save money. But for those of us with clients banging on the doors, Adobe's software family is a great place to live (up-too-date and hassle-free) and the subscription costs are absolutely worth it. A year's Adobe subscription for me is made up easily in one good day with a new client and so I will stay happily hitched to the Adobe train.

    • @rowdysouthmedia
      @rowdysouthmedia  Рік тому +4

      I completely agree! For those who who are making a living off of creative endeavors, taking the time to learn a new software does take away from making money. This was more intended for those getting started and the enthusiasts / casual.
      As far as pros go... definitely stick to what you know. And if you own your own business, then a $50/month payment is not a lot... especially as a tax write off.

    Adobe pioneered the pay wall model that Apple and now almost all other companies are adopting. I have personally purchased many versions of the Adobe Suite. Now I’m forced to the cloud because my operating system was updated. Shame on Adobe for their greed and failure to support artists.

    If you make more money from Adobe than you pay to Adobe, AND if Adobe makes you the most money as compared to any other software, then keep using Adobe because it will pay for itself. If this is not the case for you, then don't use Adobe.
