I was an ocean lifeguard for 4 summers on Wildwood Beach Patrol. Some of my favorite summers ever, and I got paid to work out twice a day, made friends for life. A great job, a pity it didn't pay better!
one of these guards rescued my friend last week, I don't remember which guy was it, but, very fast. Had he been 20 seconds late, my friend was gone.

A question! How to get those rescue can/tubes that you use on that beach particularly? Maybe a video how you make them! Thank you and be safe
It's so funny watching this from australia, I'm a surf life guard here and the way we do rescues its quite different. They still use the 'belt' technique which hasn't been used here in many years. We also have rescue boards that generally weight about 9kgs instead of foam surf boards. It's interesting to see the comparisons... Great job though Lauren!

I love jones beach can you tell me the risk of a rip current at jones beach? I go there in the summer and don't want to be sucked away from shore not knowing what Beneath me.
I lifeguard at Jones Beach, and the likelihood that you work at a more crowded beach is slim. The field in this video, Field 4 (Central Mall) and my field, Field 6, are the busiest (have the most rescues). It seems from your comment that you don't have many rescues. Come to Jones Beach when there's surf...I challenge you to keep up with us on a busy day when we're constantly running rescues and calling EMT's to tend to injuries/illnesses. You won't find it boring if you can keep up with us.

This is the beach i go to!!!
i feel like as if that is not an accurate lifeguard crash course, there was no CPR mentioned, the only thing that was relevant is the endurance. I know because I am a lifeguard myself. It is although pretty accurate to an actual lifeguard course minus the logistics and the different ways to save people.
The show is just about the workout/fitness aspect of different hobbies and jobs...

3600 saves at Jones Beach last year, and its been 10 years since NY State has given them a raise.
I had my beach lifeguard test today !!! ( practice test ) and I did really well!!! I had to run 500 yards/swim back 500 yards again all in under 10 minutes!!! 😃 I did really well!!! My final time was 8:02 which is under 10 minutes!!! So I basically pass the test!!! 😃 all I need to work on is my semaphore

man this is really old school style life-guarding...can't believe these guys don't use proper paddle boards for rescues....we do very different in aus! that stuff wouldn't work in our surf...but still a nice episode :)

I doubt you work a beach more crowded than ours. Memorial Day weekend 230,000 people, July 4th, 200,000 people, average weekend, 120,000 people.

Yikes!!! Cary Epstein and the rest of the crew are fantastic. Cary could have his own show!!!Makes you feel safe to go "back in the ocean". Great fitness test. Lauren really is totally fit... even tho she didn't pass. She has a great attitude.

This is not a hard swim. 91M is nothing. It's a easy sprint. Try the 400M swim in 10 minutes for endurance.

I am a Jones Beach female lifeguard ..women are NOT given a pass.we pass the same test and do the same work and same rescues as the men, all ages young and old do the same.. know what you are taking about before you make a statement like that....are you an ocean lifeguard..? I think not
Lauren doesn't' have the actual strength necessary to do any meaningful rescue. This should never have been a thing since you are being PAID to learn or take up new shit that us men have to pay quite a bit for. Go be a model and pose. That's all you are good for.
Of course she doesn't. You're missing the whole point of her show. She's showcasing how various trades and sports train and what it takes. Maybe it's her personal interest.
