Thanks, this was helpful. I can recognize me daughter and also myself in certain aspects that you share. After years of Spectrum issues being mentioned, my 13 year old daughter and I are finally exploring ASD. It just about explains and creates a context for everything. I was bullied badly the last year of grade school and all through middle school. My solution was to leave the state and find kinder schools, but it meant leaving my parents at 15, so that was tough. I have homeschooled my daughter. She has experienced some poor treatment socially, but Nothing like what you or I went through in regular school. I found bullying confusing. When you talked about it being bad, but at the same time you also didn't care. That's the first time I've heard someone else really parallel my experience. One thing I love about the ASD diagnosis is finding out that I make sense. There are reasons and patterns behind what I do and who I am. I think what gives ASDs a bad rap are neurotypical people imagining the horror and disconnect of our trats when they imagine what they would feel like if they had them. You emphasize over and over what you like about your traits and what you do if you feel you want to interface more directly with neurotypical situations like having a job. Very cool. Thank you.
