I don't think mini twists help me retain any length anymore no matter how gentle I am wt my hair. The matting and tangles are just something else. I had no choice but to cut it and its been 6 months since the chop and my hair hasn't grown that much plus its still thinning so i'm gonna try your method and we will see how it turns out .You inspired me to take better care of my hair, thank you.
Hey! I also combed my locs a little bit over 6 months ago. What made me retain my length again was low manipulation styles. I used to wash my hair only twice a month and would tuck my hair into cornrows or pineapple style. And what played a major role in growing fuller hair was leaving castor oil in my hair for atleast 3 hours after braiding out my hairstyle. I did this for 3 months and my hair was healing rapidly. I am now able to even do twist outs here and there. Oh btw I did not use any extra hair because I was afraid it might fall off. I did however use bun extentions to make me look a little bit older. The styling however due to fear of hydral fatigue, I only used a liquid leave in and sealed it with grease, which gave me the best results. I went from high porosity to low porosity in a month, but now my porosity is starting to be blanaced and leaning more towards medium porosity.

Lately, I have been applying peppermint and castor oil to the damaged parts and within about two weeks, I started seeing growth.

I know you asked her and I’m also not a hair specialist, but I dealt with the same issue. The only thing that really helped me was cutting all my hair to the same length (or if it’s not a drastic difference then around the same length) and then protective styling so that the front could eventually grow out to meet the back. Not sure what your hair type is, but oils like castor, avocado, and olive oil have helped my hair grow and get healthier. Unfortunately this could also be genetic. Good luck!
Parts of our hair grow faster than the other parts, it's normal. Check that you're not doing anything damaging first and then it's just normal. Just keep growing the hair like that until you reach your desired length and get a trim if you want afterwards, otherwise you'll be forever cutting your hair to match lengths
I know you asked her but if you have low porosity hair or just hair that does not dry fast DO NOT AIR DRY, especially if you were a bonnet to sleep (which you should but not with wet hair) her hair is high porosity I believe so I think she can pat it dry a bit and then air dry or if she wants blow dry ig

Done this style once and with shrinkage my braids reached up to my ears :(
Just a suggestion, but may be try blowing it out first! I’ve seen people do it and blowing it out first elongates it
Same, mine only looks shoulder length do to the heat. Lol. It's cool though, I mainly wear them under my wigs.
I just did a minibraids tutorial and I had shrinkage as well but they still came out NICE!!!
You can stretch it out by banding it with a scrunchie
I usually put mines I big plats after washing so it can stretch out then I take off the plats then start braiding to reduce shrinkage

By how my har is able to take in and retain moisture. Hair porosity tests are also a great way to help determine ones porosity

Do you just put Shea butter and oil on the ends once it gets dry or. Also do you wash it after 2weeks or...just wanna no what maintenance is like.
No, once my hair starts to get dry in the braids, I just unbraid them. I wash my hair once every 4-5 weeks
