NAVAL MINES are "vital" tools for our Navy in maritime defense, this will give us a LIMITED NAVAL DETERRENCE!
I've mentioned this on my previous comments here and other PH defense channels.
Naval mines or sea mines as others call them are very effective and cost efficient A2AD (Anti-access Area Denial) tools, this has been proven in naval warfare since the early 20th Century, you've got the Russians sinking 2 Japanese Battleships in the early 1900's which is part of the Russian-Japanese war. The Korean War saw naval mine warfare too, it delayed the allied Amphibious assault landing on a key Korean zone controlled by the North Koreans by 7 to 10 days (if I recall it right) because the mine clearing operations itself was a highly dangerous task and that it had to be done thoroughly and methodically, now after clearing the minefields the Americans proceeded with their Amphibious Landings which was one of the pivotal points of the war.
The Gulf War also saw naval mines layed by the Iraqi forces thwart an Amphibious Assault landing by the US Marines & US Navy on a key Kuwaiti beach clearing. This was a force of more than 25,000 personnel and their ships!
Any naval ship can be sunk by many means, you've got anti-ship missiles,(AShMs) torpedoes from submarines, glide bombs from aircraft, USVs, (Unmanned Surface Vehicles) Ballistic Missiles (Common & hypersonic types) BUT one cannot sink a sea mine for obvious reasons that it's already under water.
A Chinese Type-052D Destroyer, with 2 to 3 good hits from a sea mine can be sunk!
Having Naval Mines in our inventory "will buy us time," it will surely stop & delay any invading armada of ships by say 3 days to 2 weeks depending on the quantity of mines layed and how efficient the enemy forces do the mine clearing.
Australia recently bought huge quantities of Naval Mines which costs around $1 Billion dollars.
China too according to a report has around 100,000 NAVAL MINES at their disposal.
In my opinion we would be needing about 10,000 to a maximum of 30,000 NAVAL MINES of all types, which may cost us $ 800 Million dollars minimum for 10K Sea Mines and around $ 2.4 Billion dollars maximum for 30K Sea Mines!
    * Average cost of Naval Mine would be around $ 80,000. per mine.(some sea mines cost under $30K/mine while the sophisticated types are priced $150K upwards per mine.)
With this CUBE system, we can use many of our naval vessels as mine laying ships too.

This system makes our HHI OPVs functional with an AW-159, as the opv’s do not have sonar.
Otherwise, the PCG could have ordered 10 similar white hulled ships for the same budget.

This can be attributed to DNDs lack of foresight, they should have had a good overall strategy from the onset but what we're seeing is a disorganized system between 3 different government agencies. (DND, PN & PCG)

PN should focus more on capabilities not the size or length of the ships

You're correct but it's not only them even a majority of our fellow DEs (Defense Enthusiasts) follow this line of thinking, which is flawed to say the least.

It depends for frigates we need those 132m to 144m so it can carry a lot of missile and accommodate at least 60 + vls

    • @JohnBenedictuyReyes
      @JohnBenedictuyReyes 16 днів тому

@@sixeloines-tt9ph Nah, I don't completely agree with that kind of thinking, why?
Our Navy can instead use $600 Million dollars to build 3 missile boats costing $200 Million dollars each. A missile boat comparable to the likes of the Russian Karakurt Class Missile Boat or the Hanima Class. Each missile boat with a length of no more than 65 meters, an Air & Surface Search Radar, 2 x Navigation Radars,CMS,(Combat Management System) FCS,(Fire Control System) ESM, Decoy Launchers, 1x 57mm MK110 deck gun, 2 x Gokdeniz CIWS,(fore & aft)2 x Aselsan Smash 30mm auto cannons, (port & starboard sides) 8-cell VLS for Aster 15 & 30 or Barak Missiles, 4 x Brahmos AShM Canister Launchers or 8 x C-star AShMs. A top speed of between 30 to 35 knots and weigh between 700 to 1,000 tons.
The original price of one Miguel Malvar Class ship is between $275M to $300M including all munitions. Now that was 2021 pricing, in present times that price is not anymore applicable, it would be something like $300M to $350M for each new Miguel Malvar ship in case our Navy decides to get another two ships of this class.
Money is hard to come-by as far as the AFP Modernization is concerned, our lawmakers are really giving our soldiers a hard time when it comes to having an appropriate budget.
Our Navy can have 3 QUALITY - MISSILE BOATS compared to 2 x New Miguel Malvar Class Ships for the same price which is around $600 Million dollars.

For my own view concerning about Mine Warfare, of course yes it is good for defending the country against mostly submarines as I know or ships, but of course this should not affect the Ecosystem, Ecology and the Environment such as the Corals and other Natural Habitats withing the country and it's territories and sovereignity, besides that is what we are trying so hard to protect in the first place, and in our Motto it is included.......Makadiyos, Makato, Makakalikasan at Makabansa, in the end though about this video, I love the idea of having SH-Defence fitting both their Anti-Ship and Anti-Air Missiles in our ships.......

Naval mines target any vessel whether Surface Ships or Sub-surface ships (submarines) within the area where they are layed.
