Squanto had earlier converted to Christianity after a group of Franciscan monks rescued him from slavery. He was baptized a Catholic. His story is an incredible one.

Right?!?! The more I learn about him the more I'm amazed! I wish they had a Federal Holiday dedicated exclusively to him.

Thank you, Seth. I am sharing this with my students and my family. At a time when we, as a country, are so divided, it reminds us of our great and miraculous beginnings. May Squanto and Lincoln be examples to us all. And yes, we can get through our present trials and tribulations.

There should be a national holiday in Squanto’s honor.

I am a brazilian teacher and I teach my students about this miraculous history. I don't know why we have few documentaries about the first Thanksgiving Day. I would like a film that ilustrate the faith and courage of the pilgrms and how they loved Lord. It was the real motivation they had to leave theirs land and create a new culture.

A few of my Mayflower ancestors:
Elizabeth Tilley, age thirteen. Both of her parents died before the first Thanksgiving.
Isaac Allerton-lost his wife and child
Elizabeth Fisher-gave birth to a baby during the voyage and named him Oceanus

That's awesome! I'm directly related to John Howland (the boy that fell off the Mayflower but was miraculously rescued). I believe he married Elizabeth Tilley. Does that make us cousins?! 😃
