Steve is very much an empath and takes on emotion from everything's around him. It's a blessing/curse to anyone who has it. And his outlet is his music.
Philiminizzy, I have been listening to all the reaction videos to Open Arms. There are many but yours touches on his own emotions while singing and you brought that out to us. Steve Perry was just voted #1 of the Top Rock vocalists ever. His range is amazing especially in Open Arms. The entire Journey ensemble nailed this from drums to guitars and Steve as the one who makes this song the best love rock ballad ever. This will be played forever and I will enjoy listening to it as long as I can hear - it is amazing. Thank you for your contribution to it.
You are exactly right. Steve put his whole heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears in every song. He says they felt like his children. Occasionally, he would actually break down while performing them. Especially when he had something going on in his own life at the moment. He always sang with such emotion.
Yay! I’m finally watching this...Steve is a very emotional singer. He delivers the song in a way that touches our soul. His voice is pure liquid gold. Thank you for your great reactions to my favorite singer and my favorite band. Journey On.
The song was about a break up but then got back together. Its such a beautiful song. Here are the lyrics: Lying beside you Here in the dark Feeling your heartbeat with mine Softly you whisper You're so sincere How could our love be so blind? We sailed on together We drifted apart And here you are By my side So now I come to you With open arms Nothing to hide Believe what I say So here I am With open arms Hoping you'll see What your love means to me Open arms Living without you Living alone This empty house seems so cold Wanting to hold you Wanting you near How much I wanted you home But now that you've come back Turned night into day I need you to stay So now I come to you With open arms Nothing to hide Believe what I say So here I am With open arms Hoping you'll see What your love means to me Open arms
Seen Journey twice in the 80s with Steve! They are one of my favorite groups! They were incredible in concert and Steves vocals were spot on! Please try Mother/Father live in Houston You will be amazed esp.at the end.Keep On Rockin'
Thanks for your reaction to one my favorite all time singers Steve Perry. He's in a class of his own with a voice that can be picked out of a crowd as uniquely his own. He sings from the heart and so it always touches you emotionally. Another unique all time favorite is Phil Collins. His voice likewise conveys all his emotions, and like Steve, a voice you instantly know as him, the one and only. That's a major thing that sets these two icons apart from all others.
you are welcome.. there are lots of reactions from Phil Collins on the channel and much more coming.. subscribe to the channel if you enjoyed my reaction

Jonathan Cain had this song when he was with the group called the babies. When he got with journey he told Steve about the song he played what he had of the song. They finished it together and Steve sang the hell out of it!! Btw neal Schon hated the song at first. He said it was cheesy!!!
Fun Fact - Before Jonathan Cain (the keyboardist) joined Journey in 1980/1981. He had parts of this song written. He had shared it with the singer John Waite, from the band Jonathan was in before Journey. And John was like.....'sounds like a bunch of rubbish! I don't like it'. So when Jonathan joined Journey, he was at Steve's house and he played it for Steve and told him what John thought about it. And Steve told Jonathan....'Well bad for him, good for us!!' That night, they finished the song. And it became one of Journey's hits!! However, Neal really didn't like the song, because there wasn't much for him to do!!...lol...However!!! Once they played it in front of the fans and they went CRAZY!!! Neal then thought differently about it!!...lol...
I'm gonna name my favorite in every album Infinity - something to hide Evolution - sweet and simple Departure - anyway u want it Escape - escape Frontiers - after the fall RoR - it could have been you TRB- still she cries Street talk -foolish heart FTLOSM - I am Traces - easy to love
Probably in my top 5. I don't have a favorite. I love them all. I think I listen to this song everyday. Jonathan Caine had most of this done. Steve came in and added the lyrics. The rest of the band hated it. It almost didn't happen. After they did it live Neil Schon said that was pretty good. Steve Perry just thought I'm going to kill him. Something like that. This was #2 on the chart for a long time

Steve is fantastic!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

With this song it felt like he was about to cry
@@PhiliminizzyReacts He has done that before, and turned the microphone toward the audience and they would sing for him while he composed himself.

The rest will.follow hopefully
The song was about a break up but then got back together. Its such a beautiful song. Here are the lyrics:
Lying beside you
Here in the dark
Feeling your heartbeat with mine
Softly you whisper
You're so sincere
How could our love be so blind?
We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are
By my side
So now I come to you
With open arms
Nothing to hide
Believe what I say
So here I am
With open arms
Hoping you'll see
What your love means to me
Open arms
Living without you
Living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you
Wanting you near
How much I wanted you home
But now that you've come back
Turned night into day
I need you to stay
So now I come to you
With open arms
Nothing to hide
Believe what I say
So here I am
With open arms
Hoping you'll see
What your love means to me
Open arms

His normal singing is coming from the meaning of the song.
