"An early ACIM student comments about the video:
ACIM’s scribe - Dr. Helen Schucman - chose Dr. Kenneth Wapnick as the first teacher of the Course. It is a wonderment to watch this video made in 1984. He had already been teaching the Course for a few years, but in this, the first video recording we have, Ken spoke about the Course, as he usually did, without notes. The inherent astonishment in this video is the consistency of Ken’s delivery of the Course‘s message from these early days throughout the forty years of his calling.
It is clear that from the very beginning of his role, he understood both the form and content of the Course in all its complexity. He expressed it in accessible language, with full confidence in his ability to be guided. What is most astounding about this footage is that it demonstrates how ready he was to assume his teaching mantle. For most people, learning the Course is a process, not so much because its words are difficult, but more because well-honed defenses make the material difficult to penetrate. This was not so for Ken.
He expounded on the same themes for decades. He used to tease his early students. “Why do you keep coming to hear me? I always say the same thing.” It was as if, once he read the Course, he totally imbibed it, and spoke its content with full understanding.
Though the content of his message remained consistent, Ken’s form did change. In the 1984 footage, he was formally dressed in a suit, button-down shirt, and tie. His personality was reserved. Those of us who studied with him in the ‘70s and even into the ’80s heard his noticeable stutter and noticed the somewhat formal demeanor. Years later, not only did his clothing style relax, but also his teaching style became lighter, more playful. His stutter almost disappeared. Attending a day’s lecture with Ken had as many laughs as listening to a stand-up comedian. He had the ability to sense each person’s stuck spot, and with humor that was never derisive, he could penetrate and transform a defense, so that one could never quite hide behind it again. He moved from a reserved presentation to a more relaxed teaching. From the start, he spoke with authority without being authoritarian, sharing the content of the Course."

A very interesting early video of Ken teaching the course. It's obvious that Ken's relationship with the message of the course goes far deeper than we can understand. It's almost that he came here already understanding it, linked up with its form - the course book - and then assumed his pre-chosen teaching role.
For myself he is the true teacher and have devoted all my study time to his teaching material. Without him I would never have truly understood the course.
Thank you for the opportunity to see this video. God's Love always.

@@lauriecannon6299 Hi Laurie, yes understanding the course is definitely a process, often a very difficult and disorientating journey; an extremely personal one in fact, but never a private one; we're never alone when we take it.
Ken's book 'The Message of A Course in Miracles' has been the pinnacle and rock of my understanding, and the more one understands the course the more poignant, powerful and beautiful it becomes.

Yes, those statements throughout the course Laurie are so important, or any statement that stands out to us at any particular reading. And yes, as Ken continually counselled students, the Holy Spirit connection is vital, after all, that takes us back to our identity as the decision maker where we decide otherwise about the tiny mad idea.
The book 'The Message of A Course in Miracles' is a two volume set. Volume one, 'All are called' and volume two 'Few choose to listen' and serve, in my opinion, as the absolute power house of Ken's teaching literature. Particularly, as you say, in understanding the course's crucial concepts; the very purpose of these books.
If I had a chance to grab anything fleeing a burning house it would be A course in miracles and volume one of 'The Message of A Course in Miracles', and I wouldn't look back.

You are most welcome Laurie, and yes, I do totally understand what you are saying, especially your "Read the book" message which sounds to be very much the same as Helen's "Study the notes" advice.
People often asked Ken how will they know when they are hearing the Holy Spirit - how do they do it, mostly overlooking the fact that A Course in Miracles is the voice of the holy spirit; a message from our higher, true Self. Hence the subtitle of the second volume I've mentioned to you, 'Few choose to listen.'
Volume one really does address the ego strategy, breaking into four major splits, outlining the seven stages of the devolution, or fall, of our self concept of who and what we think we are. Look out for that 'ABC' split, the nucleus of the ego's strategy which simply and crucially must be understood so that reversal, true forgiveness, can be practiced; Ken's words paraphrased by the way. Lovely to connect with you Laurie.

You're welcome Laurie, I'm so thrilled, that such appropriate and vital material for your ongoing studies and progress has reached you through our connection; isn't that just the beautiful way of things?
With regards to your questions about Ken, through a succession of ascending lifetimes he already had a strong connection and awareness to ultimate truth before he actually came to the course, and in fact to the lifetime in which we knew him. This is how it works for us all. Himself, he had already lived spiritually advanced lifetimes and served others as a great guide and teacher. Gary Renard said that Ken did not deny a reincarnational connection with St. John of the cross, a highly revered Spanish friar, some old painted images of whom bear a striking resemblance to Ken.
So, we can see that Ken himself did not actually need the course, but, through the uncontainable love within himself, chose to teach and share its message of truth and wrong minded undoing with others. The course, he knew, was only a symbol of that which he clearly recognised within himself. The entirety of the course is within us all. When I read the course I begin by recognising that it is my higher mind speaking to me; not me as a body-self, me as a mind believing I am something else. The course, as Ken consistently reminded us, is addressing us as a mind, not as a body, an effect of the wrong mind.
So good to share all this with you Laurie.

Hi Laurie, try then not to think about being at a fork in the road where you have to let go of or drop anything. If you are in your ego, there's nothing to let go of or give up anyway, you are already in a state of nothingness. Also, being in the now is something your ego can never take away from you anyway. You are always now. There's no where else for you to be - no where else you have ever been or will ever be. It's just that the ego made up time, past and future, false concepts, to seemingly keep you out of your now. So, how can you try to be 100% present when you are already totally 100% present? Do you see how the ego tricks us always into seeking for something we already have, or already are. It's tricked you into believing you have to make a decision whether to be present or not - that there's even a choice at all - when you're already there. This applies to us all of course, everything lost in the nightmare of time.
The biggest problem facing any student of A Course in Miracles is their resistance to it. And one of the ways this manifests is that they completely miss the point of its entire teaching, forgiveness. Now there's a surprise. But that's all it's asking us to do, forgive, release, relinquish what we think is the problem. Stop blaming the world and everything in It, including our own body, for all our upsets and pain and lack and misery and sickness and even our death, and just know that we caused all that by deciding against our reality and putting our self into a coma of separation, separateness from everything wet truly are. Stop blaming and take responsibility. Accept the power of our own mind!
You're probably completely aware of all this anyway, but it's so good to share and reaffirm it in our minds, don't you think? Pardon the pun. And great point, you're so right about it being easier to read about correct thoughts without actually having to have them. That's another ego tactic of resistance of course right there: read and study, read and study - keep on diligently reading and studying, but don't ever practice; just keep seeking but don't ever find.

Justice is an illusive concept in front of barrierless communication and understanding of the other. Because if you can stand on the see party perspective so deep that you can even argue for their sake, you can start to see their value and it is nothing but a call to love....
Try to write an psuedo programming code (ie. Only use IF...Else...For LOOP) that mimic "justice". One will see that such word really is created by egoic mind.

cool but still, didn`t give a practicable answer. in theory, i think that whoever does something injustice, it is totally explainable if you consider every single experience that person has lived through their life. but in practice, at that precise moment, you need to help the victim. and both sides would be the victims if that`s the case. and i think it would be wise to help both of them, in their own ways.

True, no practical answer. But the video is not completed. Maybe the confusion here is a video where the whole topic is not included. You could hear that he didn't finish his explanation. This video left me very "unsatisfied". 😀
