I am an intern at the Teotihuacán archeological site and always wondered where drone footage ended up as I often see people using drones to film there. Nice documentary! I was so excited to see my home and workplace featured in one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Much love from Mexico.
am i the only one who thinks travelling is over rated? yeah, sure it is fun but i cant imagine doing it all the time. There's nothing better than my home and my cozy bed
You guys should travel to the ancient city of Tikal, Guatemala. It's very fascinating especially since the Mayans of Tikal completely vanished without a trace and scientists are trying to discover where they went and how and why.
I'll tell you where they are: dead :D No, seriously, they most likely collapsed as a civilization after ecological changes disrupted their nutrient sources. Afterewards, they never were the same again.
They like to call themselves that, and they're probably descended from them, but they certainly did not inherit most of the culture and civilization of the Mayans.
Natalia: How would you know that? We know of Ancient Mayan only as a written language, without a phonetic counterpart. It's logical to assume that some of these current languages (notice the plural) have evolved from Ancient Mayan - but how much did they change, and how much was lost? Also, acculturation in the Mayan regions from later Mesoamerican cultures was strong. The same happened with the Inka, who annexed vast swathes of land to their realm and imposed a centralized and simplified cult, for instance - which is now recognized as part of the heritage of dozens of cultures in South America, from the Amazon to the Bolivian Altiplano and the Atacama desert (even though it's not, as these rites were imposed long ago by the Inka).
So excited to finally bring the Vox Borders documentaries to light. I'm releasing the first official documentary on October 17th, across UA-cam and Facebook. The other 5 will come weekly after that. If you want to make sure you don't miss them, you can follow me on Facebook: facebook.com/johnnyharrisvox or sign up for my newsletter: www.vox.com/borders-email. Thanks for sharing in this journey with me, it's been an incredible one. Can't wait to start releasing the documentaries! - Johnny

Hey by the way human sacrifices weren't violent and gruesome. These were ancient people's who willingly gave their lives for the gods, it was an honor, they wanted to do this. You cannot really say that this was horrible or terrible. A comparison is maybe joining the army, where you fight and may die, and dieing in the army is an honor as you died for your country. I know the comparison is a stretch, but so is applying modern day standards and moral to these people. Especially considering that human experimentation continued into the 20th century.

I'm so glad that you did this video..I did a whole research project on the layout of this city in my archaeology class, and boy must I say this is one of my favorite cities in the ancient world! Recommendation: I would love to see a video on Mohenjo_daro or just old ancient lost cities.. It would be very cool!
The Mayans who were subjugated by the Terotihucani civilization did record some of their conquests. In the city state of Tikal in the year 378 AD, their leader was overthrown by a general of the Teotihacani King Spearthrower Owl.
More than a calandar, it’s a religious site built to worship the gods of the sun, the moon and rain, and to keep them happy through sacrifices. It was also a central point for trading in the Aztec world.
iGFXDave aztec? you mean ancient myans cuz their the ones we dont what language they spoke and why they disappeared 600 a.d and the aztec were destroyed by the spanish conquistadors
Wrong, the Aztec culture appeared many centuries later. That was the Teotihuacan culture, completely different and actually more related to the Mayan culture.
CrashDavi And your country does? Most American countries are in bad shape because of Europeans. Europeans don't deserve to live in the Americas, you're absolutely right on that.
I live in the town next to Teotihuacán. I can literally see the pyramids from my house. It’s amazing how some people are amazed by this city while for me is something regular. It is nothing new, so I only go like twice a year even though I can walk from my house to there in less than 15 minutes
I've been watching Egypt pyramid videos for the past two days, and now this video shoes up ... coincidence, it's a sign of the ancient civilisations?! Something is about to be discovered?!
Hey Vox, really nice video! But couldn't you at least have mentioned once that this is in Mexico? Media doesn't usually show these sides of our incredible country, so it's a bit sad that you didn't give a bit of cred to Mexico. Cheers

Even though we built many outstanding buildings, these ancient cities will always by far be more impressive to me.

They still speak the languages of Mayans and still partake in Mayan culture. So don't assume they aren't "real" Mayan.
