Best rock band ever… lyrics / sound / style are all core. In ways that 60's bands like the Stones and certainly the Beatles never were, and Metal isn't. BRMC are Soul rooted rock poets, with an edge… (Their link to The Call is rad too.)
Need to listen to these guys in a live performance to clear any doubts about how awesome they are, and the doubts have been happily cleared. They sound excellent live too. D.R.
great song from a great band! as far as voice is concerned, I think Peter's is much more steady, solid and powerful. even in the high parts he never loses it. plus, his tint is just wonderful...
people say qotsa is underrated. wtf lol. BRMC is the definiation of underrated. they are equally as good as qotsa. i dont understand how these guys are not more famous
You hit the nail on the head ripples by saying that "no one is (original) nowadays". Hence, my resorting to also giving BRMC some credit--they do sound good. However, I just wish that more contemporary bands were willing to break out of the safety of emulating others and offer more excitement in the world of music. I'm not sure how many times I can handle the same sounds being reinvented by subsequent generations.
We are all entitled to our opinions about who is "better". I was merely saying that BRMC has not added much in the way of originality/creativity to this genre of music. No doubt that Jesus and Mary Chain incorporated elements of bands before them--just like the majority of every band today. However, they were not simply a "dirty garage band" (wow you could cover an endless amount of types of sounds in that one category).
@shredswami most of his fills are totally off and there isn't much improv that isn't covering what could be mistakes. Oh yeah and I am a guitarist (we know stuff too). Oh and if you don't know, he was tossed from the band for his smack habit. I am betting that he was pretty tweaked during this performance.
The difference is that I can not recall Jesus and Mary Chain borrowing so heavily from one single band like BRMC has emulated them. I personally like BRMC (mainly because there are very few modern bands that I enjoy). I just think that they lack creativity, which I obviously value more than you (but that's your prerogative). Also, I disagree that JAMC are "scrappy". If anything, they are kind of mellow.
Don't get me wrong, BRMC is good, but I can NOT say they are the greatest...mainly because they owe a large part of their sound to Jesus and Mary Chain (who pioneered this type of sound imho). I guess that I reserve titles, such as greatest, for the pioneers who have more creativity and push the envelope a bit more...basically, BRMC just does not offer much originality.
This band is the most under-rated band in the world.

A lot should be said for Nick's drumming at the end of that. He's driving the whole heartbeat of that song... all the way to the end.
I don't think I've ever seen Peter play bass before.
Its incredible how good Robert is on both instruments =P
