hey! I was just wondering how you are finding Bristol. I have a few questions. What is it like living in the city? r the lectures good? is it a very social place eg. lots of clubbing? is it expensive for students to live there?
Hey!!! So happy to answer, ok so I will start with the positive. The city is super lit, there is so much to do and its really pretty. There are lots of little areas to Bristol that as a student you will get to know, there's the richest part of Bristol, Clifton where the uni is. The hipster areas like Stokes Croft where there are lots of cute little cafes that you imagine going to with your course friends after lectures lol. The clubbing scene is very varied in music taste, there is something for everyone, from cheese to carnival to house. So if you are keen on having a good social experience I would say Bristol is up there. I live in the city center near all the clubs and every night you see students dressing up in costumes and stuff to go out.
However, yes the city is quite expensive. Accommodation for first years is supper expensive compared to other unis even my Queen Mary friends were paying less than me, its ridiculous. I was put into a hall I did not choose and it is a hall you end up in with other people who did not get their choices. The fact it was still quite expensive for a place no one wanted is a bit silly. Living costs/ Partying cost are not too bad, cheaper than london I think. TBH with you I had a job at Waitrose so I was just living life and spending my money how I wanted to. Jobs are really easy to come across.
Obviously whether lectures are good or not depend on your subject,, and also the lecturer. I had some really interesting ones but nothing spectacular. I don't have anything to compare it to though. But yes, there were several times that I asked myself what exactly am I pay 9k for but most uni students will do that. (Plus I'm studying English)
So I think that answers your questions. Personally I found Bristol quite difficult at first, feeling like I didn't fit in. A lot of that was my own preconceptions about private school kids and stuff and I eventually got over. I did feel as well that Bristol felt unfriendly at first but really it was just everyone being shy. Sorry I have gone on so much. I you wana know anything else just let me know lol.
