Just found out about these guys through the new release from Tool. Glad I did. Checked their past work now too but didn't do much for me like this new record. This album has made me a Soen fan. Lotus and Martyrs are phenomenal tracks!
For my last 3 amateur muay thai fights, this was my walkout song. After 3.5 years, I am getting back in fight shape. Guess what is going to be my walkout song.
WOW !!! God, that's awesome ! At first I was like, ''how are they going to come out with something as good and perfect as Lykaia''... But here we are, this is simply majestic !!!!
They are are still pushing the mostly monotonous trend in modern prog. They are supremely talented, but aren't really doing anything "new". The entire point of prog is doing things different than everyone else. Rivers of Nihil, Ne Obliviscarus, and Black Crown Initiate are the bands taking prog metal to new levels.
@@rinozisa9396 And your examples are prog death metal bands that sound exactly like every other band in the genre lol? Out of those the only band I even like is Rivers of Nihil, who are pretty good but are hardly doing anything new. Whereas Soen has a pretty damn unique vibe, the only other bands doing something similar are Leprous and the most recent few Katatonia albums. They certainly stand out from the fucking ocean of generic ass tech death bands and legions of dream theater clones, or all the scene kid djent bands.
@@alexandersimmons3350 How does Ne Obliviscaris sound like everyone else? Their music is being studied in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. They aren't just important for metal, they are important for anyone who appreciates music composition, regardless of genre.
@@rinozisa9396if you want real innovation on music, something that can turn prog anything on its head entirely, I know a few. The Mars Volta, Karnivool, Rishloo, The Mayan Factor, and even non-prog things like Alt-J or even At The Drive-In. I know quite a few bands that combine genres into new music that is innovating on rock/metal as we know it. I feel like I could dig a bit more out of my head, and yes, Ne Obliviscaris is quite good, and innovative as well.
I'm happy when I see the rare great modern metal song with Standard guitar tuning. I play Jazz sometimes which is mostly played in standard tuning so not having to tune down a guitar just to play a different genre is nice.
pmtnOise I have known Soen and owned those albums since Lotus came out for preorder. I just wasn’t sold on them until this album came out. The other albums aren’t bad. The songs on them just don’t keep me interested for their entirety as well as the songs on Lotus do.
Ive been trying to get used too lopez not drumming for opeth......., but i get it..... i love i can totally identify his style with a band that is allowing his total freedom of expression 👌👌
Mike C. Fabian check out Source! They just released their pre-order for their second album. Their debut album Return to Nothing is amazing 🤘 Thank me later haha
I Don't Know Katatonia > Soen. But that is a close one. Later Katatonia is so damn good. But this newer Soen is a lot better than they stuff before... without knocking their early stuff, they have some badass songs. Tool is on another level with Maynard and Danny Carey. They set a bar no one will touch. Only little branches in their tree of a genre will grace us like: Source, Ceterum, Katatonia, Soen, Veio, Chevelle, 10 Years, Pinwheel, Simon Says, Portal (blood red tape), Cire, Riverside, etc. Check out all of those if you haven’t. I’m sure i missed some I’ve found over the years. Ceterum, Portal, Source, Cire stand out. More Tool/APC-ish. Rock on 🤘
I Don't Know I shouldn’t really say Katatonia. They were early 90s like Tool, but when the frontmans voice went out and he started to actually sing, they sound Tool-ish. Fall of Hearts is an amazing album
@@TheWhatYouNeed from soen I like fraktal, ideate, paragon, lucidity and the words everything else sounds horrible to me honestly. Those other bands though, any song suggestions?
can someone explain to me why Soen is compared to Tool? I mean both bands are awesome but I don't really see "enough" similarities to say Soen is a rip off of Tool?...
when they first formed up they said they thought of Tool as a "genre" of music rather than just what Tool does as a band... so their goal was to make music sort of like Tool (tonally/style imo) but in their own way... so it is easy to dismiss them rather than listen to what they are actually trying to do... by this album they clearly have their own niche (I always thought they sounded unique enough anyway.... but that's just me)
I think that the inspiration was pretty obvious in their first album. But they found their own sound in Tellurian and perfected it in the later albums.
I love Soen. They are an awesome band. And this is why I'm pissed off by the opener "Opponent" for having a riff almost plagiarized from that of "Sectarian". I mean wtf?
When you come up with a great riff it's perfectly fine to recycle it. A lot of bands/guitarists do it. It creates a running theme stretching across and connecting albums. I think it's cool.
Why aren’t these guys bigger?? This is such a top album
Album of the year... Another soen masterpiece
It's been awhile since an album has stuck in my head the way 'Lotus' has. Every track is phenomenal.
I'd say it's too early to tell but in this case, it's a VERY safe bet....
You think very obvious Tool wannabes music is a masterpiece? It's shit and they are trying far too hard to be Tool. It's ridiculous.

I don't know. Tool and Opeth also released albums in 2019. This was a great year for prog metal.

Soen - Lotus is what happens when you take Progressive Metal to another level!

this band will neverc cease to amazes me and ye i heard that back in 2019 sick album
The chemistry in this band is absolutely phenomenal!!!!!!
That opening riff is ughhhh !
It's like Sectarian but recycled. But not in a bad way.
Checked out the whole album 3x today. It is amazing. First record of 2019 to make my end-of-year list for sure. Congrats!
Man this is such a more metal sounding album than their previous effort, which is proving to sound fucking AWESOME
No it's not... Lykaia was heavier than this album is
what a great time to be alive.....Soen and Swallow The Sun with new albums.
Listened to this song about 500 times now and that opening riff is toooo fucking good. Shows standard tuning can be heavy
I'm happy when I see the rare great modern metal song with Standard guitar tuning. I play Jazz sometimes which is mostly played in standard tuning so not having to tune down a guitar just to play a different genre is nice.
I think this album is a masterpiece, this band is amazing
3:31 awesome! sounds i little bit to System of a Down with the entonation of voice, and the guitar solos are incredible. You guys are gods of music
Pensé justo lo mismo cuando lo escuché la primera vez compadre!
Dat riffs, dat fills, automatic headbanging
That main riff is just filthy. So good
Cheer~~~someone who competes against or fights another in a contest, game, or argument--- a rival or adversary.😊
This album has won me over to Soen. Lotus is a really good album.
Same
Lykaia, Telurian and Cognitive are masterpieces too!
enjoy them all

Agreed. They have found their sound
thank u!! looking forward seeing u guys on stage!
Amo esta banda
Can‘t stop listen to this song....

This is a superb piece of music!
Great record Soen! And thanks for putting the lyrics into the video!
album of the year.. great song🤟🏻🤟🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️🎸🎸🎸
This one is Awsomeeeeeeeeee.......
This song gives so much Katatonia's Dead End Kings & The Fall of Hearts vibes!
I fucking love their riffs. Good gawd. \m/
Masterpiece
MARTIN LOPEZ RULES!!!!!!
Very very good music
Fantastic !!!!!!👏🌋
The kind of music I like
Amazing. Ear catching yet deceptively complex
Choking on that tasty riff xD
Top.
Whoever thumbs downed this needs to have their thumbs cut off! Great jam!
mashallah
Its awesome!!
Absolute masterpiece!
The opening riff sounds sooooo similar to the opening riff of KURAMAN by Soen!!!
Great album good job
Ive been trying to get used too lopez not drumming for opeth......., but i get it..... i love i can totally identify his style with a band that is allowing his total freedom of expression 👌👌
Soen rock!!!!!
awesome band
so Kick ass Band!
EMPTINESS
Toolpeth!
Hola desde Venezuela
AOTY - Prove me wrong.
This and Fear Inoculum, for sure. Can't decide.
Son unos genios.. Los amo bros!
Impressionante!
Soen made me stop waiting for new Tool album
They sound more like Katatonia than Tool, don't know why they still get compared to Tool tbh
@@omairsh8 I agree
I'm just thinking colloboration of Soen and Mastodon.. 🤔
Soen.... and TOOL.....
💖 G R E A T 🤟
This is awesome!!!, Tool needs to make a move cause SOEN is taking over...
Mike C. Fabian check out Source! They just released their pre-order for their second album. Their debut album Return to Nothing is amazing 🤘 Thank me later haha
Tool can never make an album again and soen would still never be anywhere near half as good.
I Don't Know Katatonia > Soen. But that is a close one. Later Katatonia is so damn good. The bass resembles tool in terms of the gnarly tone and the singer looks a bit like mjk, apart from that i don't see that many similairites.
The only similarities I see is that he kinda looks like Maynard and there's some progish sounding riffs
I think that the inspiration was pretty obvious in their first album. But they found their own sound in Tellurian and perfected it in the later albums.
❤️,🇧🇷
Visit Greece please!
^^
Spewin you guys pulled your music from band camp. I bought the first 3 albums on band camp and went to buy lotus but all your music is gone.
Trivium
pour un son different.
I feel like I should report this beautiful thing for touching me before I could consent!
Шик
Am I the only one to think that the intro riff is basically the same of the one in Kuraman?
(don't get me wrong, I love this album!)
I love Soen. They are an awesome band. And this is why I'm pissed off by the opener "Opponent" for having a riff almost plagiarized from that of "Sectarian". I mean wtf?
I was waiting for someone to post a comment like this, the riff feels so much like an exact blend of sectarian's and opal's.
@keith brehm I agree

Yep. Third eye and Rosetta stoned being good examples
I agree with this
finally I found a good album in a year that really was a disappointment.
Sharaf Hussain 2019’s been awesome so far 🤔 🎶
@@Enigmalake I meant 2018. I really forgot that we r in 2019. lol
The only big album they released. Couldn't listen to the others.
:D
Not my cup of tea but it does not suck
Jon Bennington I agree I think cognitive is their masterpiece and they will never beat that album but this is still pretty good
I’m not saying this is a bad album but to me it’s a pretty disappointing one the singles we’re great but the other song can’t compare to them
Nah this is the best Soen album
Slayer is heavyer lol just saying.
Not for me
Plastic noise
Boring progmetal and bad voice. But of course I respect other people's taste in music
