Violet is one of my favorites! Some other violet loves would be: Putain des Palaces - ELDO (super powdery violets with leather) Féerie - Van Cleef and Arpels (violets and blackcurrant) Citizen Queen - JHAG (violets and aldehydes, serious baby oil vibes) Lolita Lempicka EDP (licorice, anise, vanilla and cherry) Tokyo Spring Blossom - 4160 Tuesdays (violet and raspberry with resins)
Sometimes you just want the purple flowers...I like to wear violets on a cloudy day - On one hand they make me happy but on the other they remind me of the rain.
I couldn't agree more and probably my most favorite Violet men's fragrance I hate using that term but anyway is Grey Flannel and I always stress vintage Grey Flannel because the stuff that's been out for thirty years now is disgusting but anyway on a rainy cooler day it is absolutely perfection and we'll take you to another world!!!
Sarawilliams5464: I totally agree with your lines.Violet reminds me rainy days, to me a nostalgic feeling with a bit of magic .I use Casual by Paul Sebastian( blue cobalt flower on top)You may like the fragrance, its soft, long lasting & may use any time👌
Your talking about that BOYS perfume brought back a scent memory. I was born in 1961 and for Christmas one year when I was about 5 or so, I was given a set of Little Kiddles, tiny dolls in separate plastic cases. The dolls were scented. One was green haired in a plastic ice cream cone and smelled like lime, the second had red hair and was in a striped lolli pop and smelled like peppermint, a yellow haired doll was in a small yellow cola bottle and smelled like lemon (I think...) and my very favorite was a purple haired kiddle in a clear purple fancy perfume bottle and smelled like.....plastic violets! I love violet and iris perfumes so much. Thank you for some new ones to try. I own Insolence but none of the others.
I have been watching you for years and I am loving that you are now posting videos so regularly and frequently. ❤️ Your recommendations are always so detailed and reliable and I have bought many fragrances on your recommendation. We have very similar scent tastes except I hate patchouli (except in it’s most smooth and undetectable form) and you looooooove it. Lol. We are still waiting for you to continue your famous perfumer series .... especially on Francis Kurkdjian and Quentin Bisch. 😌 Sending hugs from a cloudy Manchester.
I love Fahrenheit! It was the ultimate slow-dance scent boys wore in the early 90s. Us girls would be weak in the knees afterwards sighing to friends that "He wore Fahrenheit..sigh". I sniffed it recently and it instantly brought me back to the discos of the early 90s, slow dancing to "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men etc. That fragrance still makes me weak at the knees, it's incredible
@@kateri17 It's a green violet that smells more like violet leaves than ionone to me. Not a powdery violet, with a beautiful vanilla in the background. So pretty 💜 Iris shot from this collection is also a stunner. A sugared almondy iris. Dominique Ropion is a magician 🥰
I NEED to try Insolence. Am so late to the party on that one. Been wanting to find it in it's original flying saucer bottle. It's the coolest thing. Why did they have to change it?
Guerlain - Insolence EDP is my signature perfume, found your review and fell in love with it.; This spring Avon come up with Avon Collections Violeta ODT. It's an absolute violet leaves, warm but not sweet. x
Darling you must try the "POURPRE D'AUTOMNE" by Maison Violet you gonna be blown away it is the most into your face violet perfume I've ever smelled yet. You must try it 😉
Have you tried 'Violet Empire' by CB I Hate Perfume? I was in his atelier in Brooklyn years ago and was very close to buying a sample but decided against it at the last minute, opting for 'Smoky Tobacco' instead. I'd love to know what kind of Violet scent the CB one is.
My holy grail violet fragrance is German brand Harry Lehman’s Veilchen. It’s from the roaring 20s and Marlena Dietrich’s favorite during that era. It literally smells like Toulousian violets blooming in the Spring ❤
Fab list my good man. I'd defo recommend getting your nose on vintage Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene, not the new version that's as cheap as chips online at the mo but the vintage stuff that was labelled 'Sanofi' and was made to the OG formula from the 70s and was in production from 1988-1995. I snared a bottle recently and did a side by side with the new version and they are like smelling two different perfumes. The vintage is stunning and dries down to be about 75-80% of Creed GIT, which I always thought was inspired by GF in the first place, albeit, GIT came out 9 years later.....
Finally somebody mentioned the icon my favorite Mr. Geoffrey Beene's ultimate creation Grey Flannel! It is absolutely one of the nicest fragrances to showcase a green Violet I have ever gotten my nose on or probably ever will well maybe not but anyway I always stress vintage vintage vintage because probably since the early 90s Grey Flannel has been absolutely decimated from what it was in its original formulation. Grey Flannel will always be the king for me when it comes to a Violet based men's fragrance!
Great list to show different facets of violet! Something for everyone. I love Ajmal Violet Musc (almost dethroned my signature scent), and Gritti Aqua Incanta (violet + iris)
Sad to hear that the black and white review video never made it. I don't think I'm a big fan of violet or rose frags. But then again, sometimes I do stumble on one I like. I love it that you always remain yourself (you might not know this, but you're really funny in the most positive way) and you've taught me so much regarding perfume, thank you for that. Hope you're well! Hugs xxx
Every time I see or hear the words 'Apres L'Ondee' I think of Nancy Mitford's 'Pursuit of Love' where the chap in Spain pauses mid sentence to derail his own train of thought in order to say to Linda, 'what a delicious scent!;. I love it! Apropos of nothing. Don't we all dream of someone interrupting THEMSELVES just to say that due to sheer lack of self control? Wonderful. :D
Ah, don't forget 'Petales de Cashmere' by Fragrance du Bois. It smells like fabric conditioner mixed with Parma Violet lozenges. Linear and pure. Years ago I used to get Iris and Violet confused for some reason (not just because of their purple hue) and then it hit me: Violet has more 'vivacity' and lifts a composition (Yes! Great choice of word in your video title) and Iris marries more with woods and powdery accords and keeps things soft and without anything lively and angular going on. Powdery Iris feels...cold, still, a little sad and introspective. Violet feels more saturated and dynamic. Whenever I smell something powdery with Iris in it, I immediately envision someone wearing cashmere in an Elizabethan manor house sitting by the window sill; outside is that melancholy electric blue winter light of dusk and there are droplets of rain running down the glass as they stare mournfully outside. Ha! If I have that instant vision, then I know there's Iris involved. If there's violet I see saturated purple and an upcycled vintage carousel horse leaning against the wall with the explanation, 'Oh, it's going somewhere in my dressing room but I'm not sure where yet.' Pretty, cheeky and saturated in comparison to watercolour Iris. I can't explain any of this. :D Thanks again for your video, great fun! I'm currently wearing 'Cuir Fetiche' by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier. It's like Iris-scented powder thrown all around a leather goods store in Bond Street. It is gorgeous but unfortunately, it makes me feel like the aforementioned person watching a raindrop race in my husband's study. :D
Fahrenheit is my all time favourite perfume ever that I voted as 'the only one', although I haven't worn or owned it myself. I didn't know this had violet leaves. Bvlgari femme is another one I used to adore but only for sniffing...somehow didn't suit me. From your other recommendations Boys and Misia caught my eyes. Thank you for another great video! 👍 👌
Oh sweet sweet violet let me count the ways... I am always amazed by the reaction this note in perfumery will usually generate.it can be extremely polarizing it would seem, and your list was a great example of that. I have a Lush perfume heavy on violet called Fabulosa and let me tell you you really better enjoy green green violets because it is just that and not timid about it in anyway! I don't wear it often but occasionally usually springtime I will break it out for a week or two. I have wanted to add Apres Londe to my collection for some time but for some reason it is still absent in the mix I must change that soon. I remember very well when Dior released Fahrenheit and I just could not get into that fragrance and I still do not get into that fragrance to this day although I certainly appreciate it for the icon that it is and the influence it has produced in the industry. I was somewhat saddened to see my most favorite "men's" fragrance that exudes violet and that is none other than Mr. Geoffrey Beene's creation from 1976 Grey Flannel! I will only ever reach for the vintage (mid-80s and earlier) formulation since this one truly has been butchered beyond recognition through reformulation but truly there was a time when it was a stunner and believe it or not there was also a time when every young man had this on his body and rocked it! As usual Thomas enjoyed the presentation thoroughly and the little foray into the world of violet fragrances. I must say the shot collection or line of fragrances is way up there on my got to have list. I'm thinking I will start with Iris shot first. SmurfyGirl says it's her favorite Shot and I'm going to go with that! Lol... BTW I certainly can appreciate a good pianist......
Dolce&Gabbana The Only One is a good violet perfume. And Bvlgari Pour Femme is my all-time favorite, but I believe it has been discontinued unfortunately. Bvlgari does currently have one which is basically very similar to Pour Femme, which is called Splendida Iris d'Or.

Hahaah! Fahrenheit and Boyz II Men, I love comments like this so much. :D
I love Insolence 💜I always have it in my wardrobe, and I wear it mostly during the winter.
I'm wearing Apre l'ondee. It's one of the my all time favorites.
I love violet and violet leaf notes in perfume. Misia and Iris shot are fantastic! I also love Opus III, an elegant violet floral.
