That skit at the start was hilarious. Consider me subscribed!! Anyway, it seems like Toynami's 1/100 Valkyrie mold is just trash in general??? Which sucks, considering that there is an apparent new version out (Armored Valkyrie) that nobody seems to have reviewed yet...and probably nobody has to, if the base robot is crap to begin with.

I have one Veritech my dad bought me in the 80s when Robotech was a hit in Mexico (¿1984-1986?). He bought it in San Diego and only thing I remember was that the box was in Japanese. This version looks EXTREMELY alike like the one I still have. I had more but some were stolen to me when I was a kid (to this day I feel awful because we never found more figures, same thing with my Mazinger, which I also keep, that one is like 10 or 12 inches high, the piece that was stolen from me was the little spacecraft).

great video I really appreciate it but when I went on to eBay to try to buy this it was really expensive and when I tried to make an offer on any one of them everybody declined my offer. So I went for the bandai hi metal r and it is awesome.

So this is pretty much their fourth time using this mold. If I do recall, it went as followed:
Use #1: Macross (the "Super" upgrade was sold separately)
    Use #2: Robotech 30th Anniversary
Use #3: Robotech "gift set" (this version comes with "Super" upgrade)
    Use #4: This set.
I can understand using the same mold since there are no 1:100 scales for the VF-1 sets. And I would have probably gotten one of their Macross releases if it was not for the fact they do nothing more than reissue it three more times.
The difference? Not much besides some minor retooling (based on one review of the previous sets). But when it comes to MISB collecting, fans should always aim for this one or the "first-run" Macross set?
    Why?
    - The Macross set would compliment any collections that only include one figure per scale. Plus both Hi-Metal and Hi-Metal R are not confirmed to be a 1:100 scale series.
    - The reviewed "Micronian" series would compliment those who are aiming to do a character collection. And while the upcoming Hi-Metal R series VF-1D is shown to include a miniature Hikaru/Rick, there is no confirmation the rest will be done in a "non-Super" version set.
But when it comes to loose, they look to be a good "budget" series. But only for those who have no preference and cannot afford to import.
So great review. But for me, it looks better in the box than anything else.

Toynami is a Chinese based company. I have a ton of these figs and I have opened one to transform. These are definitely not toys as they have many small pieces and are not the most solid design. These are best for display in or out of the box. These are generally $35 and can fill out a collection when it comes to all the various colors schemes. These do not replace the higher end Arcadia, Bandai Hi-Metal-R, Chogokin DX. So with that said, you get what pay for. These are still cool and the box art is pretty cool. I would recommend these to serious collectors...

I just saw the whole collection of them on Ebay. Its 5 boxes in that and all of them together cost 400 dollars and not including the shipment cost. If the quality is poor as u said, maybe i just skip those for my collection becouse paying so much for 5x cheap-qualiy toys are not worth it in my opinion.

Jet or Fighter mode (whatever you want to call it), looks coolest IMO.
    Nice RVD cameo

A bit pricey for what it is.

Exactly, this sounds like it should cost $24.99 at most. It's like a flimsier Transformers Voyager figure

stay away from these garbage toynami toys. Pay the money and get the bandai Hi Metal R macross version. Looks better and is more stable and durable

Except for their boxes, as bad as takara legends boxes. Hard to keep it mint unless you celophane it.

@@syahril54 Or send them to AFA so they can be professionally cased. I did that with a first-run "LG09" Brainstorm. And was going to do it with the other Headmasters before finding that their QC went from packaging issues to their package-type QC being a crapshoot. Totally burnt me out and has me hope that the 2019 Hi-Metal R stuff has better package quality. I prefer my stuff MISB if I am going to pay full retail or higher.

The sculpt of this thing is wonky and that transformation engineering is pathetically outdated.
It's worth maybe $19.00. $35?? No effing way.

What about the joints? Are they broken like the previous versions?

Gustavo IVM I havent have any problems as of yet. I've transformed it maybe 8 times in total including posing it in various positions.

This toy is pretty cheap and flimsy. I personally would recomend instead to go for one of the Bandai Hi-metal R VF-1 figures, which are much better design, are more solid and feel like a more premium toy (though not on the level of a 1/60 VF-1 from Yamato/Arcadia)

Thank you for the review, now I know this is a piece of shit. And this is not a "cheap" figure

  • @nexornator

This figure looks bad and a offense to Macross in general, Toynami should sell the license to another American company that could actually cares for the Macross or Robotech brand and so release a quality product.
