This movie has the most accurate representation of the Abramelin ritual. Not that most movies tackle the theme of Abramelin, but A Dark Song did a pretty good job according to many occult experts.
I agree the demons were lame, but I thought the angel was incredible. How it's voice is inaudible, but shakes the foundations of the house itself was cool to me. Also tried to figure out what it said, I assume it said; "What is the favor you ask for?" But considering the rest of the movie I feel like it may of said something in Latin or Aramaic.
I didn't like the demons... Their appearance was... so random. Until the angel appeared, I tried to rationalize the demons actually being the souls of people who messed up the ritual. But they were so... physical. The voice that pretended to be her son WAS very demonic and done perfectly. However, I didn't like the angel either. He looked like something you'd see in a D&D monster manual. Early in the movie, before they begin the ritual, you can see Solomon uses an icon of Michael and Gabriel as a bookmark in one of his spellbooks. If they just used that appearance, it would turn out better. This way, the angel just looked like a Warhammer elf. However, the scene where the angel appears is so powerful that I'm willing to look past his appearance. :-)
Damage ConTrolling the demons should have looked scarier, almost like mannequins with no faces or twisted contorted bodies like a human centipede or spider
hes screaming at her to emphasize the severity of this ritual.how else would u do the angels and demons without turning into constantine.everything in the movie is realistic, doesn't get ridiculous for a minute.and the ending is unexpected and liberating, loved it.how else would u portray an angel? an orb of light?.10/10
For me, it wasn’t even just seeing the angel, but just the exacerbating feeling of “holy shit she fucking did it. This woman completed the Abramelin”. If you don’t know anything about the ritual, it is insanely difficult, dangerous and so feared that the first line in the book says ‘no for real don’t do this ritual’. Watching it almost felt like i was a part of the ritual as well, which was incredibly jarring
I disagree about the ending, I really liked it and didn't expect it at all. I assumed the whole thing was in her mind because of all the fasting and lack of sleep and how he was breaking her down. Good review!
i really like the creepy background photo you used in this video (as well as the one for Devil's Candy) during transitions. I appreciate that they both are specific for each movie. I like this little detail!
Ahhh I watched this movie last night and you upload this today. Perfect timing lol. I really liked this movie but I think I just enjoy slow burn types. I also loved the sound design.
Based on the abramelin operation that aliester crowley performed at boleskine house on loch Ness, scotland.once owned by led zeppelin guitarist jimmy page.....BRILLIANT FILM!!
You kinda need to have pre-knowledge to understand what going on there. The movie is a slow burner because the ritual it self is, it can last up to 8 months on one try!
I agree, if you don’t know anythint about the abramelon or the occult i feel like a lot of people won’t get just how difficult and terrifying this ritual is. Not even Crowley coulr finish it!
You’ve been killing it with the uploads lately, love it! I’ve never seen this movie but I might have to now. Can anyone recommend any good horror/drama films on Netflix?
The invisible guest (Drama/Foreign) is alright, The Last Days on Mars and The Invitation are both decent Horrors. I also think they put Gone Girl back on Netflix. Mind you this is Netflix Canada so I dunno if they'll all be the available wherever you are.
me too ! i thought it was great the 1st watch..but, after seeing it a 2nd time, it really blew me away. im comfortable with calling it a 'masterpiece' !!
I really liked the movie. And really liked the ending. It's a full circle for her because her son will never come back and the killers will never get punished the way she wants and she needs to forgive herself to continue her life.
I have to agree with you! For me, the ritual and its execution is very intense, sometimes a little slow but this helps the tension between the protagonists to grow. The woman is definitely annoying and the occultist is a real jerk but i liked him! The real and huge problem with this movies is its final act... Seriously, what was that?!? It seems like it was cut from another movie! What a bad ending! Oh, and as aways, good review! Cheers!
@Horrible Reviews. I absolutely love your vids from day 1. Never saw the most of this disturbing movies, but loved all your Reviews. Maybe we can fund you on Patreon to get our catchphrase back!
You should watch Grabbers- I think you'd appreciate the way that they defeat the aliens! PS. I'm sure I've seen that bloke in a similar film called Altar (2014)
Really? It is definitely just an opinion I gues... This is an unorthodox and unique movie. Yes, the whole movie is the ritual but that's the point. The reason why she did it and what it involved is very legitimate. And who the fuck have to be scared to enjoy an horror movie maybe this is more than just try to scare people off. For real fan of horror and film in general, I suggest you to watch this movie and make your own opinion please.
Gotta love your reviews man. I kind of liked this movie but then I have a little bit better knowledge of the occult and such. I thought that the music was interesting and good cinematography and decent acting. Although a lot of the stuff that you said in your review is completely true.
There are a lot of inconsistencies in the behaviors of both characters in the lead mainly with the guy who speaks of having to be chaste and sober but he acts exactly the opposite. I think that he appeared to be such a dick because the lady wasn't taking the magical operation that seriously when that one in particular operation is considered to be quite dangerous if not undertaken properly and she seemed to be not really taking things seriously and I would say that that is essential in any type of ritual Magick. Her falling asleep and constantly questioning whether or not the operation was working was not adding to the potential success of it all and her leaving the house after being in there for so long but before the operation was over showed a distinct lack of commitment which I believe was Apparent from the beginning or should have been to the male character. The worst part of what she did was lie about her intentions because that's one of the worst things that you can do when working with another on Magick. Sorry, long-winded
I just saw the movie and loved it. One thing you were incorrect about, though. When he masturbated to her, he said, "I'm just a guy." before even telling her to remove one stitch of clothing. He never said or even hinted at it being part of the ritual. He was turned on by her, when he was doing the lettering on her bare back, which is why that part happened afterwards. He's just a human being with urges, locked alone with a nice looking woman that had an amazing body. He couldn't help himself. Not defending him at all. I'm just saying that his character didn't deceive the woman into thinking it was part of the ritual. If he wanted to do that, he could have easily had sex with her. He just had a moment of weakness, from months of refraining from masturbation, not being with, or even seeing another woman.
He has a video on his channel (at least I think it's still there) running through all 100 movies he included on the Most Disturbing Movies Ever series and ranking them. So that would be a great tool to find out what he considers the most disturbing of movies!
The "This video may contain minor spoilers" is just a general disclaimer I add the to beginning of all my videos. There's a big ass *SPOILER ALERT* sign halfway through the video with a timestamp that you can skip to in order to avoid the spoilers, so I feel like I give a big enough of a warning! Also, that's alright, to each his own. Cheers
Horrible Reviews much respect for responding to my critique. You are correct that you gave a spoiler alert, however the Angel image is the big reveal of the movie. Discussing key details in a spoiler is one thing, but just my opinion that the image could have stayed a mystery. I saw the movie and even though it was a slow burn, I loved the authentic feel of it. Again, my opinion and I respect yours. Peace.
Meh...don't think I wanna watch that. As for your beer though. It is like the Tardis because....that beer is super small and you are drinking a lot of it. Must be bigger on the inside XD
I loved this movie, personally.

Damage ConTrolling Agree with all that. Excellent job with the Angel.
Not so much with the demons.
Absolutely agree with you, I thought the scene with the angel was stunning

I enjoyed this film greatly, and recommend the book: "The Sacred Magick of Abramelin the Mage" to all.

The ending is out of this world. Different, refreshing and weirdly believable! Great great movie!
I really enjoyed this movie. I love the feel of realism that it provides.
Ahhh I watched this movie last night and you upload this today. Perfect timing lol. I really liked this movie but I think I just enjoy slow burn types. I also loved the sound design.
I'd also recommend 'Kill List' for sound design, and 'The Borderlands' if you enjoy slow, atmosphere heavy films.
You're one of the best content creators on UA-cam, one of the few people I watch every video of! Keep up the good work dude
Based on the abramelin operation that aliester crowley performed at boleskine house on loch Ness, scotland.once owned by led zeppelin guitarist jimmy page.....BRILLIANT FILM!!
the Abramelin grimoire preceeds Crowley, and Crowley never finished it @ Boleskin
if I ever need a movie review, you're the only one I go to, I

You going to review The Blackcoats Daughter? One of my fav horror films of the year.
I have to agree with you! For me, the ritual and its execution is very intense, sometimes a little slow but this helps the tension between the protagonists to grow. I've got to see this movie if only to see that ending. What on earth...
Good review!👍👍👍 I liked the movie!
I was really disappointed by the ending. I mean that's it?
I prefer these shorter more frequent videos, so much better than trying to rush a 15/20 minute video.
I have not seen this one. It just never interested me all that much. However you're video given me a little interest
I liked the ending. The rest was interesting but sloooow.
Can you destroy bye bye man the movie? Please destroy it as much as you can
Really bad movie, with such a good beginning
dd b You know you could have just added the extra bit to your original comment instead of posting a reply to your own comment. ;)
Ralphthemoviemaker destroys it PERFECTLY. I recommend his take on it, too funny.
I'm a BIG fan.....but why do you say 'DONT WORRY' so much?
Haven't seen it and after this review, I won't.
This movie does look really boring. :/ Of all the new movies, I only enjoyed It.
Leuk dat je zo veel upload btw. ^^
❤️
Absolutely enjoying that movie up to that horrendous cgi-ridden ending.
I really tried to like this movie, but it just wasn't for me.
It was really weird and out there and it just bored me to tears.
I don't know. I tried.
:)
I get minor spoilers, but I don't call showing the Angel as minor. Also, sorry but don't like the review.
