Jose Ssegovia I seriously wonder how all those new "progressive" playing groups deal with things like unicorns (I mean the kind of groups that have trans characters)
I have two ideas about unicorns. The first is a location I thought up years ago of a mountain valley that has quite a few very magical residents, including quite a bit of Fae, a silver dragon lair on one side of the valley and at a later date a Ki-Rin moves in down the other side and a Storm Giant Quiescent (basically an old Storm Giant that has turned into a sentient storm) surrounding the valley, protecting it. I think in my early concept it did have a resident unicorn as well. This is roughly located somewhere in the Galena Mountains between Vaasa and Damara, in Faerûn. I will note, the Silver Dragon whose lair is in this valley got a revival after I listened to your Steel Dragon video MrRhexx. The story I formed for her is she joins an adventuring group in her Elven form and ends up finding out the team leader, a paladin of Bahamut, is a young Steel Dragon. The other idea is in a homebrew world concept, the Nightlands, that varies a fair way from D&D. Unicorns are one of four truly immortal races. Unicorns are forest guardians and are shy and avoiding conflict. Ki-Rin are their battle-ready cousins.
Still can't believe that a horned horse with goat's hooves and a leonine tail is a myth while the leopard-moose-camel with a 12 foot neck is a real thing.
Why aren’t Unicorns fey? I don’t understand why wizards of the coast made them celestials. It makes sense for Pegasus to be celestials, but why are unicorns celestials?
It's really annoying because them being celestials effectively prevents them from being summoned by druids, since they don't really get celestial summoning spells.
I think it's because unicorns have origins more closley tied to christianity than to fairy tales, as they are known for having been mentioned in the bible. They also don't really fit in with the whole "trickster spirit" thing the fey have, so in terms of temperment, they make more sense as a celestial.
Stephen Blair I was mistaken in saying that they originated in christianity, however, unicorns did appear multiple in translations of the bible. Many medieval writers also wrote about the unicorn, comparing it to Christ. The idea was that a unicorn only being tamable by virgin maiden was an allegory for the relationship between Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Also dnd monsters are often taken out of real-world mythology and religion, ie angels and devils.
Do Shadow, Radiant, Prismatic, Brainstealer dragons and dracoliches. Although you covered Brainstealers a bit on the other video I wonder if there's more to it.
Hmm... -Tail of a Lion -Hoofs of a Deer -Chin of a Goat -Horn of a Narwhal(?) -The Head and Body of a Horse Ok, so it’s basically a Chimera, interesting🤔 -Double D

Awesome video, like always! I always look forward to these 😁 So its very close to the Kirin in that they are more chimera like and have deer qualities. With so many conflicting art pieces its great to know how they look in D&D lore!
This is very interesting. I think I would like to try and use a unicorn in my campaign, and your explanation of unicorns ability to teleport and the difference in the way they experience time gave me an idea. What if a unicorn's ability to teleport was actually an inter-dimensional / time travel. To use this in a campaign, I would have the party encounter a unicorn around the time that something important happened that is adverse to the party. Perhaps the unicorn takes pitty on them or they have done something that the unicorn likes, and the unicorn offers to take them back in time to before that event happened. After doing this and the party sucessfully prevents the tragedy from taking place, the party continues on their business, only to realize that the unicorn didn't take them to their past, but an alternative dimension where some critical things are different. This would be such a great story driver!
@Righteous Indignation. your completely wrong. The Lion of Judah isn't the representation of Rothschild whatsoever! It's representative of a Cultural Lineage out of Africa, & not a mere Family!

Questions: -Does Unicorn blood do anything special? -If the Unicorn's rider is in peril or is captured, and the girl is part of a party, could the unicorn allow a male ride it if it helps the survival or aid of the female? -If the female stops being a "maiden" and starts a family, would the unicorn stop seeing her as a suitable rider? -Could a unicorn allow the children of their rider to become their next rider?
The blood of several unicorns make enchantments permanent, like it said in the video. It might do more, but you can't study it. No, it said in the video that when a unicorn forms a bond only that girl can ride it. Probably Not, only if she says that she's the master of the unicorn. She just has to be a "maiden" when the bond is formed. Maybe, but it would have to be after the original rider died.
If you you drink Unicorn blood you become a First (half Undead) dependent on the stuff like a Vampire but it can be refined by an Alchemist into a potion of longevity No, no male riders allowed and as a demi-god it really doesn't need any help rescuing its Rider......the Unicorn isn't obligated to bond with anyone once its Rider dies Losing status as a Rider is always possible by no longer being good or no longr a virgin

It would even be more awesome if you joined his group in AD&D gaming, sessions he posts online. His gaming friends are great too. As for World of Warships, that sounds awesome. I'll keep that in mind. I am rather neglectful in other games I am already playing. World of Tanks is also on my to-play list... also not yet downloaded.
Based on what you're saying I'd say their intelligence is above what it should be since their Wisdom is where it's at and that's actually pretty fun to roleplay. An Alchemist Wizard having all the answers in science but lacking the meaning in it while a Unicorn having all the wisdom but none of the tools/intelligence to use them effectively to apply their wisdom. Unicorn gets the tools needed to support it's domain and an appreciation for the world outside. Alchemist finding spiritual meaning in their craft (You'll get all the inspiration die from me for this).
I wonder if there is any precedent in the lore for purifying a black unicorn of its corruption? That'd be a kickass way for a good-aligned paladin woman to find her first steed.
good point, also, they should be able do normal horse like running since they have human level of intelligence. Well humans can hope around instead of our normal walking so if you ask your unicorn to run like a horse he should be able to do just that.

Always wanted to play a super edgy warlock with an enchanted hood filled with magical darkness, and they can only see out of it because of the devil's sight invocation but their patron is a unicorn and they're a celestial warlock but they don't like telling people for the street cred 😂
I once ran a Paladin that was raised by a unicorn called Creya. Just a little tidbit in his backstory to explain his reverence for the natural forces, his main goal (s), and his devout good nature. I didn't expect her to show up later in the story as a NPC, in one of the single most emotional moments in any DnD Campaign I've ever played. Basically, she was forced to abandon Cero (my PC) because she knew nothing of the ways of man, and thus could not raise him previously. Afterwards, he lived his life as benevolently as he could, in the hopes of seeing, what was basically his mother, again. So yeah.... fought a hoard of the undead alongside a unicorn.
Did you know that there exists a hybrid of an elf and a unicorn, called alicorn (not the mlp one) in the 3.5 book "B*stards and Bloodlines" (among some other hybrids). They are larger and more powerfully built than elves, with very long pointed ears sticking horizontally, with a thumbnail sized nub in their forehead. Dark variant is also a thing.
I have an old 3.5 D&D magazine that introduces a monster called a bloodlance, which is a unicorn driven mad after having their horn cut off while alive. It's my favorite monster in D&D and I plan on revising it for 5e so I can use it in my campaign. :>
I think it comes from "the light" as in "the colour white" is all colours combined, but black is the object "absorbing" all the colours. And generally speaking absorbing everything can seem "greedy" and therefore "bad" where "White" reflects all colours from the light-source back into your eye socket. Just like a colour is just a bit of light that the object couldn't absorb, if that makes sense? But then again, I believe the question was probably very sarcastic and you didn't necessarily look for an answer, if so nevermind :P
Unicorns are old, you said that & i was reminded of a line from the book & movie *The Last Unicorn* : "i wonder if she'll remember me..." "she'll remember you when Men are gone and books written by Rabbits."
Love you videos. A video about d&d that I would love to watch would be about the Wild Shape of druid. I particularly don't understand why the Life Points came back to be what it was before the transformation.

Man I would love to see an episode about werewolfs and werewolf player characters
Bradley Stroeder Lycanthropy is supper cool! I agree, MrRexx work on this please!
As always, thanks for this great resource for my game
@@MrRhexx i homebrew them as fey in my settings =p =] it's more fun that way
Either that or Elemental Nature Spirits
Stephen Blair I was mistaken in saying that they originated in christianity, however, unicorns did appear multiple in translations of the bible. Many medieval writers also wrote about the unicorn, comparing it to Christ. The idea was that a unicorn only being tamable by virgin maiden was an allegory for the relationship between Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Also dnd monsters are often taken out of real-world mythology and religion, ie angels and devils.
Do Shadow, Radiant, Prismatic, Brainstealer dragons and dracoliches. Although you covered Brainstealers a bit on the other video I wonder if there's more to it.
heck yes!
And dracoliches!
Just how many dragons there is?!
Vincere Romero in a game called “Dungeons and Dragons,” I would expect extreme amounts of dragons
Yyyyeeeaaahhhhhhh......
He should do dracoliches. Agreed.
Ha! Perfect tyming. I just got my players involved in a conflict in the faywilds. This offers an awsome adition to my toolsett
Please do the Griffin sometime soon, I'm trying to put together a short campaign about them and really need the info!
Hmm...
-Tail of a Lion
-Hoofs of a Deer
-Chin of a Goat
-Horn of a Narwhal(?)
-The Head and Body of a Horse
Ok, so it’s basically a Chimera, interesting🤔
-Double D
Yay! The first episode to mention my patreon support was for the Unicorn! Sweet!!!
Can you start a series of videos or a long video on giants? I'd love to learn more about giants of Mountain, Hill, etc.
My favorite thing about seeing one of your dnd videos in my recommended is that they all look like conspiracy videos from a modern fantasy dnd game.
Imagine being a unicorn and you were to play minecraft.
It will always be like a new game to you
Great vid as always mate. :D Really looking forward to future installments. I'd love to see some demon stuff, specifically about their influence on races other than men, elf and dwarf.
And congrats on the sponsor btw :D
Okay here's my big idea a warlock pact with a unicorn
Pact of the celestial mentions that. I plan to make a hexblade warlock that has a pact with the horn of a fallen unicorn.
YES.
Archfey pact with Lurue, the Unicorn Queen.
Only if your a good hearted female virgin or maybe just scrap that part.
@@chaotic4453 Evil unicorn Warlock? That's pretty cool.
🦄🟣
9:55 Looks like the female unicorn, from 'The last unicorn', one of my alltime favorite american fairytale cartoons :)
I'm pretty sure it is.
Great film.
My favorite 💜🦄
6:32 - This type of movement is actually called "pronking."
That moment when a wild magic effect spawned a Unicorn in a battle against a Wraith and basically won it for us. =)
13:09 "Unicorns eat through their skin." - Hideo Kojima
Unicorns are majestic creatures indeed...
...until they come face-to-face with a lion. And then it's stabbing time
@Righteous Indignation. your completely wrong. The Lion of Judah isn't the representation of Rothschild whatsoever! It's representative of a Cultural Lineage out of Africa, & not a mere Family!
Right on time. My Tortle Kensei Monk had an encounter with Mielikki on the past session, and she showed herself as a unicorn.
I love when i crit on Religion Checks.
Oh can you do a Nightmare next!?
What if a unicorn were in a green dragon's forest. I want to know that answer, plz MrRheex make a video on this.
They’d probably fight to the death
Make it a quest.
they have lead fay resistance against them i recall
Stovie Weems good idea
@@No-ms3hj How young would have Green dragon be to lose this? Like Wyrmling? XD? Unicorn would simply flee in fright or try to never cross dragon. I think that most very old green dragons could one shot unicorn with breath weapon XX
Now I want to make a tiefling paladin of the woods and get her a unicorn
11:00 that right there is probably the BEST atribute Gods imbued into the Unicorns, something that long-lived needs a way to stay invested with the world, otherwise they grow bored, then mad and then...Quilby from Wakfu essentially.
I looked at his channel earlier today and I was like “hmm mrrhexx’s last video was 2 weeks ago wonder when his next is”
Took a week off for my birthday! :D
MrRhexx Happy birthday, than!
Damn, now I want my paladin to have a unicorn mount... Tyr, hear my prayer!! Unicorn friend plz!
Tfw no unicorn bestie to inspire the good and smite the wicked with.
While they're no more book smart more than the average human, they're VERY insightful, and QUITE charming.
DangerX6 Angel9 someone romanticizes nature while knowing nothing about it. Nature is parasites eating you from the inside out and trying to screw before you die.
Humans opted out.
DangerX6 Angel9, if you really believe that you can go to Brazil, Africa, or what have you, and join a nomadic or tribal people. And worry about disease. Face hunger. And loose some toes to frost bite. And face the reality of parasites being incredibly common in much of the world. And watch your kids die of illness you don’t understand.
Go on, return to nature. Live life the right way!
It’s right outside your door.
DangerX6 Angel9 fine, please describe for me a time and place where people lived in harmony with nature?
I honestly can’t imagine it. What was it like, how was it different? No platitudes, please.
DangerX6 Angel9 you made it sound like your ancestors lived in peace with nature but now you have nothing to say about how their lifestyle was different from ours.
DangerX6 Angel9 do you have a Non-fictitious example? A real world example.
You’re the one who says we should do things differently. Explain
this guy is the best to listen to or watch when prepping campaigns, do giant types and some low level monsters too. :)
Obviously, next issue should be Pegasi.
And Nightmares, of course.
8:30 - For a horse, yes, they are indeed geniuses.
Can you please do a video diving a little further into the black unicorns? Running an evil campaign and I think it would be awesome to put one in there. Plus I love your videos
I had the same idea for my own Evil Campaign. They will definitely fight some though.
In some version of dungeons & dragons my father had a cleric. This cleric had a unicorn and the Unicorn having levels of Ranger hada Cat.
Ah. So unicorns are also breatharians. That explains a lot.
Rhexx you are amazing and I continue to love your videos. I have been around since Chronicles of a Sad Story, Your Skyrim movie/story thing. I loved it and have been a faithful watcher since.
5:54 "In fact it is mainly the only way to tell a male unicorn or a female, and that is whether they have the beard or not." I'm pretty sure there's ONE more way...
SoulOfTheReaver yeah but they might teleport before you can look
Or they could kick you with their hind legs
A riot in a forest because of a unicorn being born would be a really cool encounter, be a good way to introduce how crazy a fae party would be. I mean I'm seeing tumbling forest gnomes, wood nymph kissing booths, arm wrestling contests with earth elementals, its be like the craziest county fair ever lol.
Unicorns eat human flesh and are a weapon of destruct-
OH sorry, thats the Overlord one.
its vanity is to be expected. Remember there power to see wonders in things they have already experienced. If we saw something new and wondrous about ourselves every day we would be too.
Questions:
-Does Unicorn blood do anything special?
If you you drink Unicorn blood you become a First (half Undead) dependent on the stuff like a Vampire but it can be refined by an Alchemist into a potion of longevity
No, no male riders allowed and as a demi-god it really doesn't need any help rescuing its Rider......the Unicorn isn't obligated to bond with anyone once its Rider dies
Losing status as a Rider is always possible by no longer being good or no longr a virgin
Andahar allows Drizzt to ride him so there are exceptions
@@Xelitaz1 Drizzt is a poorly-written mary sue and a lot of things about him and his stories don't make sense
@@Xelitaz1 andahar is a summoned being from another dimension. There are questions concerning his behavior. There are always exceptions by world, region, plane, and unicorn.
My setting has unicorns as rare animals (It's kinda a Midsummer Dream Setting. Fey, Satyrs, elves, so on). They function Kinda like bears. You hear about them, but not many people have actually encountered one. and they do NOT fuck around. One of the PC's witnessed a unicorn picking up a person with telepathy, twisted their neck and limbs around 360'' with a *CRACK* , rip their tounge out and throw the rest away.
I feel like Unicorns make more sense as a Fey creature
I love how you cover the alternative angles to AD&D creatures. You should talk to AJ Picket (The Mighty Gluestick) about some joint videos. Those would be epic.
Hey you missed out on how the nightmares are created by unicorns captured by demons
WoW interesting, what edition/book is this info from? I don't remember seeing it in 3.0, 3.5
@@magearamil8626 i think he's wrong... Pegasi become nightmares.
Tho I might be rusty
Nightmares are Pegasi who have been ritually tortured and had their wings ripped off.
@@nobodyimportant2470 oh shit I'm stupid sorry rhexxy
Shadow Unicorns also sound like a pretty good topic! Ever since I read about Addar, the Ravenloft darklord of the Phantasmal Forest! :)
Please cover vampires next! The succubus video glossed over it but would love to hear more details. Keep up the awesome work!
Can you do one on Centaurs? In the gaze of a playable race.
My six year old son told me that " unicorns fart rainbows Daddy " , and I said " Well I don't think Leprechauns would enjoy that".
I'd like to see a vid on pegasi next.
An idea for the next video can be Sirens or Mermaids
I wonder if there is any precedent in the lore for purifying a black unicorn of its corruption? That'd be a kickass way for a good-aligned paladin woman to find her first steed.
I can't imagine a hopping mount would be comfortable, let alone practical to fight on top of
good point, also, they should be able do normal horse like running since they have human level of intelligence. Well humans can hope around instead of our normal walking so if you ask your unicorn to run like a horse he should be able to do just that.
"Ashitaka, you mean so much to me, but I can't forgive the humans for what they've done."
Thanks for these videos, I hope the sponsorship treats you well. Looking forward to more campaign/encounter ideas from you in the future!
how can fae armies have unicorn cavalry if the unicorn birthrate is so low? That is like claiming ancient china rode into battle atop pandas.
I imagine they force them to reproduce, but i am not so sure. I haven't really read that much into Thay-land. Cormyr also has unicorn riders but i would imagine they wouldnt be as many.
I would imagine unicorn breeders are a thing. Some creatures breed much faster in captivity. Worst case scenario, there's always mind control & drugs.
Always wanted to play a super edgy warlock with an enchanted hood filled with magical darkness, and they can only see out of it because of the devil's sight invocation but their patron is a unicorn and they're a celestial warlock but they don't like telling people for the street cred 😂
The power of friendship!
I was just blown away by that intense intro and then just suddenly
"Hey guys this video is sponsored by world of warships-" and I died
Could James Charles ride a unicorn??
So many questions
Need a video on nightmares to finish your unicorn facts
how would you do a unicorn rider player character?
Celestial warlock, pact of the chain with permission from your DM to have a very under powered familiar.
First love your videos :D
Did you know that there exists a hybrid of an elf and a unicorn, called alicorn (not the mlp one) in the 3.5 book "B*stards and Bloodlines" (among some other hybrids). They are larger and more powerfully built than elves, with very long pointed ears sticking horizontally, with a thumbnail sized nub in their forehead. Dark variant is also a thing.
1. I'd ask how such a thing could exist, but I already know
2. This has given me some ideas for centaur unicorn
Unicorns are sexist *triggered*
I have an old 3.5 D&D magazine that introduces a monster called a bloodlance, which is a unicorn driven mad after having their horn cut off while alive. It's my favorite monster in D&D and I plan on revising it for 5e so I can use it in my campaign. :>
Black always seems to mean evil in this game.. racist!! Lol
I don't know if dnd has manticores but id love to hear about them. Keep up the good work!
0:03 "No two people will see the same things." I see a sparky boy that can cart a whole party with the lightning rod on its head.
2nd AD&D, we got a dagger called the Unifex. Slow the process of aging, and allows a stupid far teleport once a day.
