I am extremely happy with the way this product was delivered. It was wrapped and packaged well and I received it with no damage. All the parts are attached and the user guide and paperwork was included. Highly recommend it.
Hey Tex, what about drainage? I have a 12' "Otter" from Indian River, which appears identical other than the length. The biggest put-off has been the lack of a drain hole in the stern. One bad thunderstorm on the Gulf Coast can get quite a bit of water in a canoe. I like my Otter, but I have to have something for drainage when the canoe is trailered, open side up. Sure, I could trailer it facing down, but can't put all my stuff in there to travel. Have been eyeballing the "Old River" canoes, which supposedly have such drains, but can't find out much about them since there is no website that I can find. I like your setup though. Mine is similar but I use either a 3.5hp 2-stroke or a 5hp 2-stroke Nissan. The canoe will actually plane with the 5hp! I fully agree on the versatility these things have. You can configure it in many different ways depending on the circumstances.
I have the 12' otter and the 14' outdoorsman. I have the kayak anchor trolley on both sides of the canoes. One for a 3lb anchor and one for a bait bucket. The trolley system makes it easier for a passenger to get more bait.
Awesome channel. Super glad I came across this. I just bought my first canoe: 18ft square stern for chasing everything from trout and salmon to stergeon, stripers and smallies. This was an awesome walkthrough of was to set a canoe up perfect for fly fishing ....loved "boom boom boom...and a 10lb bonefish" lol. Tight lines bud!
Well, its been three years since this video but I found it to be very useful and exactly what I was looking for. I have a 23ft bay boat and I was looking for a simple (not expensive) skiff/yak/canoe so I can stalk the flats and the back country by myself. Thanks
@@ranierrentas4818 dang. I just got a 16 foot Indian River for $100. I gotta fix the transom wood and front seat and it’s good to go. Hoping to get it on the water in a few weeks.
I gotta tell you my canoe story. I found a fiberglass 16 ft that looked good in pics. The man couldn't meet me during the day ,plus he was moving and the canoe was at the old house without power. I met him and from the little light on my phone it looked fine. Next morning I realized he had used aluminum tape and tapes bunches of holes and painted over them. The bow bottoms were worn thru from rubbing. I had $100.00 in this wreck. Most would have hauld it off. I use to fiberglass repair corvettes and semi truck hoods. With the material I have close to $300.00 in my canoe. Oh yeah ,I chopped a couple.ft off the back and made a flat back transom like yours. Its like 13ft 9inchs. I wanted to be in the smaller size for DNR reasons. I still gotta biuld my seat frames, she's raw inside. I did clean and paint the interior. She had pressure treated lumber screwed in for seats when I got her. They came out with the tape job. I live in North Ga. Wish we were closer so you could pass along some wisdom on canoe fishing. My daughters and ex in-laws live near Savannah. I go hang out with them and build stuff with my ex father in law several times a year.
Awesome video, thank you for the detailed walk through!! You still have the canoe, how is it holding up? How stable I it,, You think two guys could stand up and fly fish out of it??? I'm in central Florida and guide-fly for both freshwater and skinny water... Thanks again!!!

Great set up man. I have an old Grumman sport boat that I picked up with a 4.5 evinrude for fairly cheap and it has been pretty fun. It definitely needs to be set up a little better. It only goes about 7mph the way I have it.
Good stuff bro. I just bought my first boat ever and it's pretty much identical to this one. So I appreciate you doing this. Been very helpful. Stay safe sir and tight lines!!!
Hey i recommend a sand spike for quick stops and it can be used as a push pole. I have one on my 14 foot scanoe and i use it for freshwater. It’s great, like a cheaper more versitile powerpole
Did you have to title and register it ? I am looking at the same canoe down here in swfl only problem is it's got no title. I am going to be putting a motor on it as well
Nice video. Have an old town discovery 17'4", its a beast and I love it. Can pack out for a month in the thing no problem. Have been unable to overload it as of yet. Like the use of your alligator clips,,,noted.

Hey Tex. I have a similar set-up but a 6hp suzuki and a 15 ft wenonah backwater rolalex hull. I previously had a fiberglass lay-up canoe but got tired a patching small cracks do to crashing waves. Wenonah discontinued the backwater ,so i would choose Esquif T-formex now or a used aluminum grumman or similar. Also i would not eliminate a KaBoat. The Suzuki outboards are solid motors.
Hi I have a small dory fishing boat, 16 ft. Was looking at the esquire rangeley 17 and heard it flexes a bit so am leaning towards a Grumman or a 16.5' kevlar clippers canoe. what do you think?
@@TTTT-rc4fv Esquif!!! .. flex in a canoe hull is better then cracks. Kevlar hulls require repair work and aluminum grumman are loud and rivots may fail. Mount a six hp outboard and boogey
@shawn huis - did you have any concerns with overpowering the wenonah? I believe 6hp is above their recommended specs. I ask because I am planning to put a small outboard on the Esquif Cargo. That boat has a max of 3hp, but wanted to put a 4hp suzuki on it. My concern is the 4hp suzuki is 25lbs heavier than the 2.5hp. Will that extra weight prematurely wear down the transom, or worst yet, sink the stern?
@@alexchang435 No my Suzuki 6 hp has never compromised the transom , however royalex is likely stronger then t-formex .Ignore the recommended specs as they are only suggested. My videos will prove and empower folks to go beyond what we are told is safe.
Any tips for using the paddle/pole? I tried flyfishing off a paddleboard after I saw a few of your older videos, not super easy to quietly put paddle down and grab fly rod, while staying lined up with the fish. Looking at maybe getting a small jonboat or a canoe like this.
My biggest tip is to just know you are gonna spook some fish and not get some shots, but when you get in a fishy area or circumstance slow wayyyyyyy dowwwwnnn and training yourself to look a little farther than you are comfortable in order to have time to get setup. Also never take your eye off the fish, learn to switch paddle for fly rod without looking down. If the shot is not lining up, be patient, back off and reposition...many times fish circle back or stay in a small area feeding. Good luck, thanks for watching!
How many feet in length is your Canoe ? I just got a 12ft Indian River Otter that looks identical to your I'm still deciding what size tiller to purchase. Great video 👍
What is the length and maximum width of this Indian river canoe? What is the width of the transom also? If I can't find an Indian river canoe for sale... I may have to just build one. Any measurements you can provide would be most helpful. Thanks.
I have used a 17' Old Town canoe at 120# for years. Got an old golf cart trailer. Extended the tongue about 3' so I NEVER have to worry about denting pulling vehicle. It is low to the ground & pulls super easy.
I have the opportunity to buy an Indian river 16 ft for $275 looks identical to yours. Looking to run a 40 or so pound thrust troller and fish finder on it from my old John boat. Wanting to go exploring around Florida. I've always been a little skeptical for myself with canoes being 6'5

I've got the 2.5 Suzuki on a 16' aluminum square stern, it goes 8.5mph according to GPS. Which, due to idle only restrictions on the lake I fish is too fast to get away with. A touch over idle is 5.5mph.

BRAD D I believe a canoe, for fishing, is way better than a kayak. I, too, have been preaching this gospel🙂
Except on windy days kayaks are better 🐟
Ted Sell no kidding, fighting a canoe in wind and trying to fish can make a man cuss.

Conoes can be better for larger fellows getting in or out and the the guy who takes alot of gear 🛠
