Bring it on! There's a ton of space for wolves in Scotland, and tons of deer for them to feed on. It's a win-win for the need to reduce deer numbers, for their own sake (many starve in winter through overpopulation), and for the campaign to restore Scotland's native forests, including the wonderful Caledonian pine forests; and saving that habitat could help save the Capercaillie from extinction, and also the Black Grouse.

As an American born and raised in California with the Irish last name of McCarty, I have had at least four sightings of the Eurasian lynx’s smaller cousin the American bobcat. At least two times when they were on the side or even resting in the road while I was driving east of San Diego, where I live, and another time where I thought I saw a large gray one behind someone’s front yard fence in the same area where I drove. As far as I know about my local culture around American bobcats, (besides how giant the US is compared to Europe and our history), I find the main key is to allow the bobcats to be wild, understand their importance as a predator, allow them ideal habitat with food to hunt, look after your pets unless you have guardian dog breeds, and allow the bobcats to be a part of it’s healthy ecosystem. Of course, I also live under the shadow of the big hungry mountain lion as I like to call them, yet they usually live in the most rural protected habitat, even if California’s mountain lions or cougars suffer from habitat fragmentation. At the end of the day, wildlife coexistence is a matter of understanding and respecting their ecosystem, how we are part of it, adequate protections, (where I saw bobcats are protected in California compared to being huntable in other states), and embracing the fact that predators can often be more scared of us than we are of them, unless they are habituated. In my area of San Diego, there is a large river Valley Park, surrounded by two major suburban neighborhoods that serves as a wildlife corridor, with plenty of hiking trails, wildlife warning signs, and etiquette, and all the wildlife, including raccoons, likely bobcats, coyotes, and the occasional mountain lions are all protected from hunting. May we all learn from nature itself.
Also worth noting that India and Bangladesh are heavily populated, and even still people appreciate the wildlife they have, with much more of it being dangerous. It seems like only Europeans are scared of having large animals that are oftentimes depicted as killing machines (which usually are anything but). As a Canadian with southeastern European roots, having observed both regions, it's almost clear as day.

We have many problems with the return of the wolf in Germany: You need huge areas to resettle wolves. A pack needs at least 200 square kilometers as a hunting ground in Central Europe. A wolf can run 80 km in one night. The annual increase of the population is 30%! Wolves are opportunists, seeking the easiest food to capture. So they will not only hunt deer and boar but also domestic animals. Here in Germany, wolves now jump over 1.50 m high electric fences for the protection of sheep. Nevertheless now the landscape is full of electric fences which are a great problem for other wildlife. The dog life guards of the sheep like Kangals often cause problems when having contact with hiking people. When the wolves invade herds of pets, they do not only capture 1 animal but kill dozens of animals. All of this should be considered carefully before you settle down. In addition, the wolves are also gradually losing their shyness and do not only come to the villages at night. It is therefore important to involve the local population and not only the population in the city, who do not have to come to terms with this animal. The lynx is far easier to reintroduce in all aspects.

My country Rwanda reintroduced Lions a few years ago, they had gone locally extinct due to the 1994 Genocide and the upheaval that followed, we got 6 from South Africa, and now there are 30. It was a big national event with kids from all the country choosing names for them, and they were escorted from the airport to the Akagera national park by Police.

We have wolves in Bulgaria. Some of my family members from the past came across wolves in the wilderness but have never been harmed. Wolves would only attack the livestock to feed their families.

Yeah, bring 'em back. The deer numbers are out of control and need an apex predator to bring them down to sustainable levels. Without the wolf, the deer will continue to destroy woodland ecosystems through their constant grazing of seedlings and saplings, preventing any regeneration of woodland habitats.

I allso think that since they are not hunted, the less shy individuals make more offspring, they have been sighted in all parts of the netherlands apart from the densely populated west, but eben where they do live they are never more than a couple of kilometers from a camping. very interesting developement, If you reintroduce them in scotland you mustr not be surprised to see them in the most improbsable places,

I have imagined a possible large reserve enclosure that may be some of the old hunting estates could be used for where a single Wolfpack could live, local prey can be trapped in there for the wolves to hunt, and if the wolves get to Rome, free on the British Isles ; I really hope that historic cattle breeds and dog breeds could be used as livestock guardians as history suggests. With the Taurus cattle project to awaken and emulate the extinct aurochs, I was happily surprised to discover that I heard of them instinctively herded together to defend against a pack of wolves, like the legends of Texas Longhorns demonstrate, and what bison and muskoxen do anyway. The more we learn from nature, and human history, as we know it; the more we can adapt and re-accept our native wildlife.

I live in solihull in the west midlands, so as far away from wildness as you can get really lol. I was talking to a chap who loves to go climbing & hiking around the uk, he said for a large parts of the uk they see deer as pests due to their high numbers. I wasnt aware if this, is this true? Id imagine if we dont have any natural preadators for these larger animals then the number would rocket. Introducing wolves & bears would obviously control populations but whi can predict what impact it would have on local ecosystems. I find this all fascinating, its a good conversation to have right now

I feel like it’s just horrible how they were treated. I know how dangerous they are, however they really do rarely come to humans. And as long as proper habitats are made and we don’t intrude on them, they don’t like to wander out.
After briefly working at a wolf conservation center, and growing a bit attached to some of the wolves like favorite dogs; I got to personally witness that wolves can be terrified of you approaching them, and will takeoff like that! His name is Durango and he is one of the 600 living Mexican Gray wolves. He became my favorite ambassador wolf because being around him gave me the sense that he’s very much the heart of gold type, but is often the cautious guardian of his pack and actively sent marks if he feels displeased. Either way, I’m glad I had some experience around captive wolves that could tell us a lot for how to live among them. The key is honoring their ecosystem, legal protections, and I felt encouraged with the possibility and history of livestock guardians, whether it is certain dog breeds, or Texas Longhorns, that I hope Taurus cattle and other possible breeds could be used for.
This would be nothing but ridiculous to introduce wolfs into the UK. The Uk is not comparable to other countries you mentioned in Europe. Fail to see why anyone would think the British countryside would be if it from such a thing.

Lynx stay away from wolves I believe. I’m very unhappy with my governmemt who always has to pander to the farmers party, no matter if it is the «labour party» or «comservatives» who are in charge. Some worse than others, that’s why there,was a worse ing for the wolf in Norway in 2020. But your information was a bit inaccurate. We do not have open hunting for wolves, we are bound by international agreements. However the farmers party always lays pressure to the number of wolves we allow without culling them. Even when they get compensation for loss of livestock, we have the most subsidised farming of all.
This short video mentions most European countries where wolves remain including Portugal but leaves out the situation of wolves in Spain. It seems Spain only exists for Brits in the context of holidays, sun, cheap beer and so-called "British expats"..... Please do better.

I have watched your video on rewilding in the Iberian peninsula. All is referred to Portugal where there is a rewilding project, but there is no rewilding going on in Spain. With regards to the Iberian wolf situation, its conservation status is very different in the two countries - no mention of that. The video is ok but has some inaccuracies such as that large spaces are privately owned in Britain unlike what happens in Spain or Portugal. That is not correct. All in all, the video is a bit superficial. It gives a shallow glimpse of things but I would advise taking the info in with a pinch of salt.

After briefly working at a wolf conservation center, and growing a bit attached to some of the wolves like favorite dogs; I got to personally witness that wolves can be terrified of you approaching them, and will takeoff like that!
His name is Durango and he is one of the 600 living Mexican Gray wolves. He became my favorite ambassador wolf because being around him gave me the sense that he’s very much the heart of gold type, but is often the cautious guardian of his pack and actively sent marks if he feels displeased.
Either way, I’m glad I had some experience around captive wolves that could tell us a lot for how to live among them.
The key is honoring their ecosystem, legal protections, and I felt encouraged with the possibility and history of livestock guardians, whether it is certain dog breeds, or Texas Longhorns, that I hope Taurus cattle and other possible breeds could be used for.
This would be nothing but ridiculous to introduce wolfs into the UK. The Uk is not comparable to other countries you mentioned in Europe. Fail to see why anyone would think the British countryside would be if it from such a thing.
Right now it seems like a bad idea... I'd be interested to get your opinion on my next video about what exactly has to happen if we're to see them again. Look out for it :)

Yeah it’s a cool project within a 10 acre or so enclosure, I think. Not truly wild, but certainly good for the public to learn about them 🤙🌿

i think it would be better to reintroduce bison first.......let the numbers grow then reintoroduce wolf and lynx....so the wolf feels more at home lol wolf will be bored to death literally with no other predator.

Lynx stay away from wolves I believe. I’m very unhappy with my governmemt who always has to pander to the farmers party, no matter if it is the «labour party» or «comservatives» who are in charge. Some worse than others, that’s why there,was a worse ing for the wolf in Norway in 2020. But your information was a bit inaccurate. We do not have open hunting for wolves, we are bound by international agreements. However the farmers party always lays pressure to the number of wolves we allow without culling them. Even when they get compensation for loss of livestock, we have the most subsidised farming of all.

This short video mentions most European countries where wolves remain including Portugal but leaves out the situation of wolves in Spain. It seems Spain only exists for Brits in the context of holidays, sun, cheap beer and so-called "British expats"..... Please do better.

I have watched your video on rewilding in the Iberian peninsula. All is referred to Portugal where there is a rewilding project, but there is no rewilding going on in Spain. With regards to the Iberian wolf situation, its conservation status is very different in the two countries - no mention of that. The video is ok but has some inaccuracies such as that large spaces are privately owned in Britain unlike what happens in Spain or Portugal. That is not correct. All in all, the video is a bit superficial. It gives a shallow glimpse of things but I would advise taking the info in with a pinch of salt.
