This is a treasure, which deserves many more views! My respect and love to all the Indian descendants settled in Fiji, Carribean, South Africa, Mauritius and other countries, who have kept the cuisine and the traditions alive while battling poverty and conditions which may have been worse than slavery! These stories need to be told and celebrated! Lots of love and respect from Bangalore, India!

Love love love this! I’m a 3rd generation Fijian Indian having grown up in Fiji and have been living abroad for 31 years. My grandfather was an indentured labourer and my Dad has so many stories of his childhood & living off the land. I am so blown away by this video, I love to cook and I love Fijian & Fiji Indian food. I thought I knew a lot about our food, but this video is such an eye opener, there are so many dishes I’d never heard of or tried. My next trip to Fiji will be so different for sure. I am so emotional, blown away & in awe right now. Hats off to these amazing families creating such awesome nourishing food from organic home grown products. Just wow!

Great Indo-Fijian rural cooking program on wood burning homemade stoves - the BEST tasting way of cooking. Took me back to my presch childhood where i used to hang out with a large telgu speaking farming family on the neighbouring property in VERY rural Fiji (Vanua Levu). As an only kid @ the time, my parents had allowed me to eat there whenever i felt like it as my parents could see me @ their place from quite a distance. As
a kid, i loved their red rice with
milk for breakfast. Now living abroad for several decades the only thing that i cook on a regular basis is dahl with fresh tumeric etc and cook on open wood burning pits whenever i go camping. I've saved the program and has now inspired me to cook some of the recipes. Although not being able to make roti to save myself, i still reckon that Fiji roti is the BEST, having tried fresh flat bread from Africa, Middle East, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Malaysia, South America, etc. Watching the program brought back ALL the wonderful smells as well. Vinaka vaka levu Tukuni and Ameri Aid, loved it ! 💛😋👏🏽🌴🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯

I believe this gentleman is cooking Aviyal the tasty Kerala(South Indian State) vegetable curry for rice. It is unbelievable that after this many years, Fijian people still cook Aviyal. Searched on youtube for Fijian people of Kerala origin then I got this Video.

Both the Aviel and Idli shown here are modified. In traditional Aviel we do not add ginger, onions, rarely lentils and definitely no crushing. The addition of tej pattha in idli is a North Indian touch !

You bring our culture to life for people to see with the way you edit and created this video. Truly blessed to have come accross with this. Hope you make more! Great video! I came across your video by accident but it was well worth it. Being originally from Fiji, and currently living in Sydney, I have to admit that some of those dishes are new to me. I look forward to trying them one day. Nevertheless, I am glad that there are families in Fiji that are living off the land and in doing so, they are setting an example for the rest of us to follow. Minimising the use of processed foods and increasing the intake of fresh organic foods is the key to a long and healthy life with your loved ones. Thank you, Vinaka.

I am really fascinated to see the roots of our culture is very much alive being away from mainland for generations, particularly the bhojpuri language & the same old way of preparation. The interesting part which surprised me was that the north Indian & south Indian culture is so well mixed in day today life. I am very much thankful to you sharing us the videos. I can't understand, why does india history doesn't teaches about our decedent's Bandhua majdoori & settlement in so many countries .
India should sue Britain for so much of brutality, & separation of so many families from India.

Raam Raam. I am surprised to hear the word bora used for beans. Is it Bhojpuri? In Guyana it is used for long bean. In Trinidad it is called bodi. I am so happy to see my own culture in other lands.

This guy needs to call out the seven deadly sins and seven virtues man. His tongue is to the roof of his mouth.
Sins are pride, envy, wrath, greed, gluttony, lust, sloth.
Usually if his tongue is to the roof of mouth he’s being taught envy, or he’s being envious or others.
    There are also 7 virtues.
    Prudence
    Temperance
    Justice
    Encouragement
    Faith
    Hope
    Charity

As imperfect beings, we are sinful by nature. There are many who are quite adept at putting on a virtuous show whilst living a double life.
