  • An intimate portrait of a family of capuchin monkeys living in the harsh, semi-arid forest of north-eastern Brazil. These monkeys must rely on all their ingenuity and remarkable skills to survive here. If they want to become independent, youngsters must inherit the strategies of their group: hunting, finding water, digging to extract roots, and even using stone tools to crack open palm nuts.

I love how the instinct to break things with rocks is inherent in them. In every video I’ve watched of capuchins kept as pets -that have never been in the wild, they always use household items the same way. They smash and flip them, even wet cloths and such.

Beautiful little film. My interest in primates was always with the old world monkeys. Capuchin were always stereotyped by the organ grinder training one to play an instrument, or just seeing them as the most trainable to interact with humans.
This film is a reminder that wild is best left to remain wild. With the dwindling rain forests and drier weather conditions, these little guys inspire me with their resourcefulness. 👍🐒

An amazing and elaborate film talking about the lifestyle and how capuchin Monkeys behave so much a lot much more like human beings that they seem to have basically created their own version of the Stone Age and it's amazing of how non-human primates can actually do the same things of what a typical human being would have been so much of such. Like many monkeys they are one of the closest of all animals to us human beings it also just goes ahead to prove us that monkeys are actually teaching as as a reminder that not only just because we are related to them but also because we are learning from them as a result of their tool using behaviour is the key to our success as a specimen. Sadly some people would really like to take advantage by just keeping them as a pet now that these monkeys are literally threatened from the ultimate penultimate power that human beings have sadly are much more evil than what they used to be. Let's hope those who are able to successfully understand those clever looking primates show also understand about the reality of how climate change global warming and all the other factors that planet Earth is suffering from will always be acknowledged for mankind's wrongdoings.

On vacation in Costa Rica the capuchin monkeys were so tame wild but using us to get what they wanted like onion they would all bunch up and chew and rub it on eachother they would go in a bliss like state and from the bar we would get fruit and fruit juice but sometimes they would steal our alcohol drinks they love shrimp and fish we would give them there was one called sweet Alice and another called little Billy who loved to be groomed and would groom you lots of times they made a mess of my partner's hair she had some wierd looking capuchin monkeys hairstyles lol I won't ever forget that troop of capuchin monkeys for the rest of my life

Remember when they thought chimpanzees were the only primates that used tools in their natural environment? Anyways, so nice to see capuchins where they belong, out in their normal environment outdoors not in cages and used as props for profit by vloggers.

They will use all kinds of objects as tools. Brown capuchins are amazing to watch. Lol..they will even use a small twig to pick their boogers from their nose and anything long and string like as dental floss!

Wild monkeys should never be pets. Why? For your own personal enjoyment? They're social beings within the context of their troop.

Macaques are all drama. Unfortunately this may be why they are always featured in monkey distress videos. Capuchins, although smaller, have a strong presence and may fight back.

You know nothing about macaques...you think u do because of the videos from Thailand or Burma where they are manipulated by moron humans pitting them against one another. Wild macaques left alone are awesome monkeys.

Unrelated, but the capuchin monkey reminds me of an 80’s movie called Monkeyshines. About a paraplegic that gets a monkey trained as an experiment to help him cope with daily life and things turn bad. But the monkeys here are good.

Which is unfortunate, monkeys belong in the wild, not as pets. No matter how many people think these pet monkeys are 'loved' by their owners, they are not living the lives they were meant to in the wild.

That being said, Capuchins can be too cleaver for their own good. A woman had one for many years and he would watch her come home from work every night freshen her makeup and make a cup of coffee. One night she was late getting home and when she arrived there was coffee spilled everywhere, the gas stove pilot was on and the monkey had lipstick smeared all over his face. Monkey see , Monkey do. Years later she sold him to a friend, and he tried to make coffee again. This time he found the matches and burned the house down.
