In this video, we explore the idea of a limiting reactant. We use this idea to work out the mass of the product that we can make in a chemical reaction, even if we are not told which reactant is in excess.
This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification. The Amazon link above is an affiliate link. Ahhhhhh that's the best thing on internet today🙏❤❤Thankyousomuch❤
This guy is so helpful, i just wanna buy thousands of his revision guides and give them out
I am nearly completed all my notes on your videos. These videos are just the best and I think I will get atleast a 7 in all sciences because of you. Thanks.
All of these calculation videos that you’ve done were an absolute life saver on the chem igcse ty v much
Thank you. You made it even more simple than the CGP revision guide
Albert bob that’s literally what I was about to say
I was just about to say that too
I was about to say that tooo
i had never learnt this before, but i got it in just one video! thanks a million
i’m in top set science and when we learnt this in class i was so confused but after this i got it straight away a total life saver
You explain in 5 mins what my teacher fails to explain in 1 hour
Absolute god send
It's 5:42 am right now and I have to give the exam today at 8am 😅😅
Sean you saved my bloody GCSEs
My chemistry exam is at 9am today and it’s 7:06 right now and you’re so helpfullll
How'd it go? Hope you did well :)
Thank you so much, my teacher just confused me with all these equations but you made it so easy!
Give this man a Nobel.
Cheers, this has really helped me understand this topic.
Thanks a lot for explaining so great, your videos helped a lot for my tests and exams
We are just about to do this after Half Term ^_^ Thanks :D
Very nice.Easily understood.Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
Literally the best guy to watch! 🤩
legend. absolute legend
So are limiting reactants just the one with the smallest mole value, then that mole value carries on to the product?
yes
Exam tomo morning and im binge watching this guys vids
U are the reason of my A i got for my IGCSE exam
I’m doing my year 11 chemistry mock tomorrow and you’ve literally been so helpful, Thankyou!
good luck u got this
No problem. I hope that your mock went well.

this is very helpful thank you!
Just binged watched this , i'm doing a test to enter higher and damn this is hard but you make it so simple !! thank you for your efforts :D
how’d it do? :)
its nearly midnight, we've got this
You're a saviour.
It was helpful, sir. Nice presentation.
Thnqq soo much sir for you great clear and easiest explanation about limiting reactant.
Actually I was trouble in this chapter but now hopefully I can do all the ques by my self.
Thnq soo much Sir!!
Hats off you sir!!!
Thanks, saves me time going to my teacher and further confusing me!
Watching this right before my Chem paper 1 ask me in a couple of months and I’ll tell you how it went (unlike everyone else)
sure
How’d it go
go on
how did it go?
how did it go??
the smile at the end got me wheezing
Really helpful!
Thank You!
thank you for saving my life
It’s the morning of my gcse exam for Chen, wish me luck:)
In 1 hour I have my chemistry exam and I am watching video right now😇
thank you so much! really helpful x

its actually easy wtf, my guy
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you very much sir😀😀😀😀
you just saved my IGCSE student life
3 hours before my exam starts.. Gl to everyone
Ahh that smile :) I love it xx
Hi, where can I find the workbook?
Thanks
nobody has ever found it...
Absolutely legendary
11 min before the exam 😍‼️
Hey can you upload faster......or are you trying your hardest but this is the fastest rate you can go at? The only reason i am asking is because you are the ONLY reliable science channel in the hole of youtube, and you are the one that helps me before exams or just during general revision.
One more thing, you have a lot of videos but still havent began uploADING stuff that we are doing.
Thanks
QQ
yh man pay attention in class
Very good!!!
please sir can u answer this question
how do i know what has been fully used up?
what an absolute madlad
so the number of moles of the limiting reactant = the number of moles of the product, and you can find the mass of the product by taking said amount of moles and doing moles=mass/Mr?
best teacher evaaaaaa
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I’m doing the the ocr exam board so is this the same as ocr
I actually love you
You are my inspiration
Nicky Crisp ok
I hate that I'm doing this now. The gcse is tomorrow n I'm still treating this like a mock
how did u do
THank you mate very litty
Thank you, your videos are so helpful!! I came across this question to work out the mass of the product however instead of moles, it uses the mass of the reactants: Calculate the mass of aluminium oxide formed when 135g of aluminium is burned in air. How do I work this out?
This is two years late but you'd have to work out mass = moles × Mr
Is the reactant with less moles always the limiting reactant?
How does 0.5 moles of Mg react with 1 mole of Cl2 to give 1 mole of the product?
thanks
where is the link to his revision workbook?
freesciencelessons.co.uk/workbook/
would we get the chemical equation for the reaction in the question in the exam or are we supposed to work it out
No you would get the equation in the exam.
3:57 How did you find out the Relative formula mass. Please help. Thanks
Add together all of the relative atomic masses of the atoms present in the compound.
@@Freesciencelessons Thank you so much!😇
thx so much
4:28 wasnt it Mass= mr x mole? but you put mass = mole x Ar so im kinda confused on this :(
OH i think i kinda get it now lmao its currently 1am so my brains working slower
how do u find relative formula mass
what if the limiting reactant was just magnesium and the mass wanted to find was copper would it still be affected?
it would because if magnesium was the limiting reactant, not all of the copper sulfate would react, hence the mass of copper produced would be smaller
why did you give the mass when the question said how many moles?
Hi urgent question: is this the same as reagents in excess?
Thanks hope to hear from you :D
The limiting reagent is the one that is not in excess.
Freesciencelessons ok thank you!
My schools shit thanks man your a legend
Im doing combined science higher , does this still apply to me????
Not Lacazette ye it does
So the amount of moles that is smaller is the limiting reactant?
Instant Play yup
so is the number of moles for the product always the same as the number of moles for the limiting reactant?
i was wondering that too, do you know the answer?
So is the limiting factor mole is equal to the product of mass we are trying to find out?
Bella and BTS oh hello army
Hoseoks water bottle oh hello again
@@hobituitary1233 i saw u on his other videos!
thank you so muchhhhhh
you’re welcome
wait can someone help me cuz at 3.33 why is it that the moles of sodium chloride are 0.25?
cuz i did that sodium hydroxide was 1 so after the reaction the excess wld be 0.75 and thats how much sodium chloride would be. i dont know im sorry
The hydrochloric acid is the limiting reactant and there are 0.25 moles of that. That means that 0.25 moles of sodium hydroxide will react with it (they react in a 1:1 molar ratio). 0.25 moles of hydrochloric acid will produce 0.25 moles of sodium chloride.
Isn’t this just the same formula to answer the question as reacting masses 1&2 i don’t see the difference
i’ve got my exam in an hour (it’s currently 8am..) and this is my resort to pass 💀💀
I love you!!!haha
hi sir are u doing a levels
What do you do when theirs a number at the front of the symbol like 2na?
Then it’s 2 moles to whatever many moles the other one has
I love you :)
I live in Bangladesh and i don't know how to get his revision book. Is this available on net or do i need to buy it?
I checked now, and you can get it on amazon to be delivered to Bangladesh, however the shipping is quite expensive :)
Is there a difference between limiting reactants and limiting reagents ?
pretty much the same, but the reactant is more specifically the substance consumed in the chemical reaction.
in the test will they say in the question which one is the limiting reagant?thanks!
If they only give a mass for one reactant, you can assume that this is limiting. However, if they give the mass for more than one reactant, you will need to work out which one is limiting from the number of moles.
@@Freesciencelessons thank you but how would you find out which is one limiting if they dont tell you?. thanks
2019?
