UPDATE: Its been brought to my attention that you don't technically take control of an objective until the end of a phase/turn, so the 'sticky obj with scouts if opponent goes first' won't work. Sorry for any confusion! (I thought the strategem overwrote that but it clearly says "you control") Let me know if I missed anything else :)
When you kill a character with a Precision, the unit he was attached to doesn't lose a leader buff right away. Until the end of all the attacking units attacks the leader is still considered attached
Good save, tbh I knew that but I still blurted it out that way for some reason lol I kinda think it'd be cool if it did work immediately but then it'd be a unique mechanic vs how everything else in the game works so I can see why it shouldn't be that way

I felt the Bloodthirster was slightly overcosted when I originally made this video (Skarbrand is only 305 vs BT's 320 at the time) but looking back I should've brought him up for people who don't own Skar or just like him be'cause he wasn't / isn't *bad*, at all, I just thought Skar was better 😜 So you've got a very valid point there!

I've been having some luck with epidemius attached to the plaguebearer squad. I put them front and center pointing to the middle objective, but toeing on my home objective. The cp rule is secondary to making that squad have a 4+ invuln. Pair that squad with a Nurgle daemon prince on foot (with upgrade) or a GUO with bell. Belakor is a good "all comer" take, but most tournament tables don't have a problem providing LOS blocking terrain. if your local meta has very little or no terrain, Belakor is a mandatory take. Soul grinders should be meta. I've got 3 of them and they always soak up plenty of damage while dealing consistent damage back. I've used denizens of the warp to pull heavily wounded soul grinders to my home objective to heal up and provide deepstrike screening.
Great point on the terrain & Belakor viability, I fully agree. Heck even on dense boards he's still perfectly serviceable Grinders are awesome, basically getting GD damage output for cheap. They work great at both defense & offense too, pretty much their only downside is their size
Man, Skarbrand has ended up being such an essential part of the way I play my Daemons. He's basically anti-keystone.. Wraith blobs, Meganobz etc, I don't leave home without him anymore lol

Nice list my fellow Deamonic lord! I'd love to see some changes to the Tzeentch stuff most of all. They're quite underpowered compared to the Nurgle and Khorne units. Quite silly GW didn't change anything in our slate at all... If they are going to lower the cost on weaker units in other armies, they should definitely do it for everyone. Very positive video! Very informative. Keep at it! 😁 If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend the fateskimmer bomb with screamers starting on the table, then take them off and leave them in reserve as a rapid ingress threat! 27w with 14" move and mortals coming in from reserves later in the game is... very scary! It's a nice way around 'you must' arrive back on the board with the stratagem.
Yeah some of Tzeentch & most of Slaanesh really need some love. They don't have the synergies like Khorne & Nurgle can get up to so unlike them they can't "super boost" the lesser profiles. Still, we lucked out most of the army is still usable but it'd be nice to get some more variety in there. Clever combo with Fateskimmer, I always run him solo but have to hide him everywhere so he doesn't just get shot off the board. With a bodyguard that'd be a different ballgame!
I have a bit of a sleeper combo. I run skarbrand with a khorne soul grinder. Since it gives grinder the khorne keyword, it means that it gets the melee bonuses from skarbrand. I like to airdrop him 6" in the bubble, unload the gunfire, which you can splitfite if you want. People always expect it to be a shoots unit but i have had a tone of success running him with skarbrand as a melee/overwatch threat. I prefer the Warpsword over the claw because more ap and potential more damage. Thing is the shooting is still good because harvester canon is strength 10 2 damage. Playing him melee also means you can use tankshock on him, so 11 dice for potential insta wounds. I highly recommend trying it. I like to run it with either multiple great unclean or rotigus to hold objs, or just one unclean with a lord of change holding midboard with belakors lone op.

And yeah I noticed a severe lack of Daemons content too, almost all of it was from the start of 10th so I figured it'd be a good time to put something out. Barnyard is top tier too so good shout out, i think any/every Daemon player can learn something from him. For whatever reason Australians are straight up some of the best 40k players out there
Good video. I'm just starting my Daemons army, and am still trying to find my optimised list, so this video is helpful. 100% agree on Belakor, I don't think he is needed, especially on WTC terrain. You've also convinced me to try and fit some flamers into the list. Just a note regarding Skarbrand. You do need to pay movement for circular rotation in 10th (you cant rotate for free like earlier editions). Because of that, Im still finding the Bloodthirster useful, especially with the mortal wounds at the end of the fight phase
With belakor you can use the strat to put 2 units in deep strike and then use the 3 inch deep strike for his 6 inch aura of chaos. Now you can bring in a bloodthirster or shalaxi etc 6 inches away. Nothing like turn 1 going second dropping 2 big threats in their face while the rest of your army scores
As much trash as I talked about Belakor, he unlocks allll sorts of shenanigans like that. Throwing down 2 GDs T1 can/will definitely catch some people off guard hah. Tbh I think his 6" shadow bubble is more valuable than anything else he brings
Great video I used Be´lakor in my first 3 games. Now he is on a shelf collecting dust and that is not feeling good. Now I play most Nurgle/Khorne combos and add sometimes flamers. I will soon try 3 Soul Grinders in a friendly game, will be nice to see if it works out well. (we always do tactical. ;-) )

Glad you enjoyed the vid! One trick you might try with LoC is to use the +1AP strategem & then choose Ignores Cover as his ability. Taking a Vindicator to a 5+ or Preds to a 6+ can make all the difference for actually finishing them off. It's never guaranteed but esp with that strat the odds should still be in your favor :)
You dont lose character buff until you resolve the combat. So even if the skulltaker kills someone giving fnp 5+, the unit still has fnp for the rest of the attacks. Ruoes commentary is clear on this.
"Monster Mash" is incredibly popular & basically the main way people play Daemons so you're in luck hah Like I mentioned on your other comment you still want *some* troops for actions & the sort but 5+ GDs is practically the standard
They've been sooo good to me, definitely worth a shot! They really shine with character support, Bloodmaster is easy to convert (or just like, paint his base different hah) & Skullmaster *slaps* even solo
I get mixed up on this one so often hah, appreciate you pointing all those out! Fiends I really do need to revisit, they started out the edition so badly (150pt!) but someone else asked me about them recently & I realized how bias I've been because of the "first impressions", if I could go back & re-record this tbh I'd probably include them as a flex pick. 120pt is totally fair for them, Beast + good buff + decent damage + sick models = $$
100% agree with Be'lakor not being that good. I tell the same thing to people that ask about my be'lakorless list. Nice to see other players awakening to that fact
Great video! I love tzeentch this edition. A lot complain that they're underpowered but pink horror spam is so annoying it's hilarious. You also forgot to talk about the flux master but don't worry GW forgot about him too :(
Lord of Change is probably my favorite Greater Daemon atm & Flamers are way up there for me too hah. Pinks have been surprisingly good pretty much every time I've ran them too - overall I'm happy with Tzeentch but I do wish the rest of their profiles would get some boosts. Still feel bad for Slaanesh tho :(

I think Daemons are in a fantastic spot atm.... *if you soup*. I hate souping, and only own Khorne Daemons + Be'lakor. I could definitely make something work, but until the codex comes out with a Khorne specific detachment idk how often I'll run them.
Of the mono versions, Khorne's the best one imho! You might check out 40kstats.com, I'm not sure if it's still up but there was a Khorne list that won a bigger tournament if I'm not mistaken That said, yeah they're still better when souping gods for sure! Belakor is perfectly fine too, lots & lots of people win GTs+ all the time with him :)
I actually did a livestream last weekend for my CSM Codex review! I used to do it ~near weekly & legit they were a BLAST so I think I might start doing them again. So keep your eyes out hah. You would miss out on the OC & mobility but I do think he edges them out All that said a lot of Daemons lists have successfully brought along CK so it's not a bad call! They're awesome from the cool factor alone so you've got that too hah

I believe I meant with their Mortal Wounds output, each model has a 50% chance of doing d3 Mortal Wounds on the pile in before they even fight. Pretty nasty!

Have you ever run a Roti a GUO, a Kairos, a LoC and a few other things in a list? Maybe with 2 grinders (one nurgle, one tzeentch)? Seems like a lot of fun.
Not that exact combo but I've ran some that were relatively close to that before! (lots of Tzeentch shooting w/Grinders) It's a really fun style with all that firepower, almost feels like a Drukhari army hah. Normally I skip Nurgle Grinders but getting some extra Indirect to go with Kairos would help shore that up. Slaanesh is a pretty good choice for Grinders too - x6 S9 AP2 D2 with Sustained + Dev Wounds, makes for a pretty nasty combination vs elites 'n the sort
Honestly when my opponent tries to rush belakor to take out that large amount of points, I take it with pride. I do what they least expect and charge him straight in there against their whole army. This usually distracts and confuses my opponent enough for me to pick up some objectives elsewhere 😂
You know, that's a valid tactic for sure hah, I've done similar. Especially when he's surrounded by 3+ other Greater Daemons its a sorta screwed either way situation for your opponent 😜
@fatarchon totally! I'm looking to revamp my list a bit. I have access to allsorts of units but I know fot certain I want to use lord of change and be'lakor. Do you have any suggestions? How are flamers feeling at the moment?
LoC + Belakor is a great combo in my experience, depending on the target you can hit them but they can't hit you back w/the 18" bubble. He's also great even w/melee units as a lot of times you can deploy on the line. Flamers are still one of my all-star units though (along with Screamers). I don't even really use them for damage but mainly for scoring which they seem to excel at. 3W 4++ is really damn good at only 75pt, so yeah I'd highly recommend them! If you want to go the damage route a full 6-man can be brutal with overwatch & the sort. Don't sleep on Screamers either, they do even less damage but 14" move thru walls is A+
@fatarchon the mortal wounds from screamers are rather nice too. They don't really benefit from lord of change too well but they want to run about doing their own thing anyway. I'm glad flamers are still good though. Thanks for the tips
I feel like you didn’t discuss the merits of Bloodthirsters enough. Yes they are bigger and more expensive. But the +1 to hit applies to all Khorne units which is great. It means being damaged has no effect or negates -1 to hit enemies. He also has Fly so much harder to screen him. And he’s 50% faster than Skarbrand. And he has Relentless Carnage for mortal triggers. And he can be enhanced to give even more Str and # of attacks. I’ve never had one fail to perform in a game.
Nah you're probably right, I should've included the BT! He's not *that* far behind Skarbrand (imho!) & makes a great substitute if you don't have one or better yet to include along with 'em. Great point on the Enhancement too so touche!
I have not yet found an answer to the following Horror related question so maybe some guys here could help me: If a Pink Horror dies you obviously roll for a split into a blue Horror. If the next attack of a unit then kills another one - can you decide if the next pink horror dies or one of the blue ones or do you need to kill all pink horrors because you roll for the blue ones? As the pink horrors are much better I would do it in this order: Pink -> Blue-> Yellow-> Pink etc.
You're talking about 2 separate units shooting at them right? In that case you'd get to choose! If you mean from a single units attacks, you don't roll until they finish all their rolls so you'd only get to pull from whatever models were alive initially. & yes generally you'd kill off the small ones first tho sometimes popping a pink is helpful for the extra movement / screening
@@fatarchonThank you so much for your prompt feedback! So this would mean: 1st units makes all its rolls and I remove only pink horrors as this was the inital unit. If then another unit attacks my horrors unit that now consists of pink and blue horrors I can choose for each attack which model I remove. If then a third unit attacks my unit that would then potentially consist of pink, blue and brimstone horrors I can choose between all of them?
Hey man! You're spot on, it's only per unit's attacks not phases or anything / it doesn't restrict you to only picking Pinks so you're free to split whichever models you want 😎 Only caveat is if your unit is completely wiped out by a single enemy unit's attacks, in that case you don't roll anything. Hope that helps!
Hey so I have 2000 pts of khorne daemons, (been playing since 8th, so I using them when they weren’t good lol) and I was thinking about getting nurgle stuff next. So I would probably go 1k Khorne and 1k Nurgle. My locals does 1k matches though, so I would go 500 khorne and 500 nurgle, I was wondering what units should I focus on getting first? Hi. I know I'm six months late but you said you read all the comments so I'm hoping you'll see anyway. I have never played aTabletop Wargame. I want to get into Warhammer. I don't know the rules really. I've watched some games online. I've read some units. I really like Nurgle and Daemons so they're definitley want I want to build, probably along side a small Death Guard army with lots of Nurgle allies. I struggle to follow along to some of these in depth videos on how to play Daemons. No pressure, but if you ever made a video of how to play Warhammer using the Daemons as an example and incorporating the stratergies you talk about, I'd find it incredibly helpful. Likewise, if you have any suggestions of where (online) I can go to learn, I'd appriciate it. Also, what is that program you use to play online? Is it table top simulator?

I absolutely do read every comment still 😜 One of the main reasons I ever started this channel was to help new players like you, so I'm glad you were able to get some ideas in your head for running Daemons. They're an incredibly fun & rewarding army, lots of variety to choose from + they have some very strong combos to work with. I've definitely considered doing a 'how to play 40k' video so that might be something I need to revisit. Daemons would be great for it too because of all the variety so I'd be able to cover most of the bases (infiltrators, scouting etc). All that said, probably the best way to learn to play online is through Tabletop Simulator. It's the same program I used to record these vids & 100% there's normally multiple people willing to teach you how to play. Should be $10 on Steam & otherwise is completely free! I actually have a tutorial on using it if that's something you ever want to checkout. Once you're on the discord you would just type "@LFG Beginner - would someone be willing to teach me how to play 40k?" something like that. They also have "@LFG Mentor" I believe which will ping a teacher. You'll have to spend a little bit creating an army & getting familiar with the controls beforehand but trust me it's worth it. What would you currently play at a 1000pts? I’m going with Be’lakor, Skarbrand and a Daemon Prince with wings. Then a unit of Nurglings and a unit of Plaguebearers. What do you think?
That's a great question actually! To be upfront at 1k I normally write a more fluffy list as it's usually a more casual style match, but not everyone follows that mantra + there's 1k leagues & the sort out there Your list would be FUN as-is so I see no issues there hah. 1k is tricky as it's usually less about scoring & more about tabling your opponent, so I think you might have the right idea with all the big hitters. I might consider dropping the Prince for a Bloodletter Bomb (letters + bloodmaster), not only would it do more damage but it'd give you great practice with the Daemon playstyle of deepstriking / teleporting around with Strategems Normally I'd probably say consider dropping Belakor but let's be real here, the model is sick & despite all my qualms he'd actually shine pretty well in a smaller game just from how tough he is. If you go to a tournament or the sort tho then yeah I'd say *consider* dropping him for like a GUO + some chaff
I think Rotigus + Letters is way stronger then Belakor so good swap!! As for vs Orks, I haven't gotten to fight the new Codex yet so I'm not positive the best route to go yet. But if you're playing 1k be aware they can T1 charge you pretty reliably with the board size so I'd ask my opponent what their range is with Waaagh & measure it out when deploying, unless you can take it. I'd get a GUO on objective ASAP as they should have some trouble getting through his T12. Lastly just remember all the strats we have, if they leave you openings to steal primary or the sort be sure to take it!
So, I am really contemplating starting a daemon army. I have the combat patrol, Belakor, and a lord of change. The only things holding me back is where to go next. I love Nurgle so will probably go heavy that route. What would you suggest?
Hmm, well you have a great base to work off of so really you could go almost any direction & come out alright I would think! If you already have the CP, grabbing Skarbrand or a Bloodthirster wouldn't hurt but otw for stuff that'd be universally helpful (imho) I'd recommend a box or 2 of Nurglings + a squad of Plaguebearers. Both of those are ran in the majority of Daemon lists & will carry their weight utility wise. If you want to go heavy into Nurgle than instead of Skarbrand you could get a GUO to go along with those guys. Don't forget scoring so I'd eventually look into something speedier as well; Plague Drones for Nurgle or Flamers/Screamers for Tzeentch But yeah, I'd think Nurglings for sure, Plaguebearers because they're so cheap $ wise too. Beyond that a Greater Daemon of your choice (GUO or Skar/BT). Instead of a scoring unit you could grab another heavy hitter too, so think Soul Grinder and/or some more Bloodcrushers or the sort :) Hope that helps!! You legit have a great start so it'd be hard to mess up no matter what you get PS: If you plan on using your Bloodletters consider either converting a Bloodmaster or grabbing Skulltaker. Ohhh a Rendmaster would be sexy too lol (& is only $45!)

could you explain how blocking the larger units with the screens of hounds works? I've been playing with friends and I didn't even know this rule existed. Do they make the large unit count as in cover? I would love to see an example of a 1k points demons list
So it doesn't have anything to do with cover or the sort but just physically blocking out the opponent from either charging your key units and/or blocking your opponent from getting movement with their own units. Just the other night a squad of Flesh Hounds basically single handidly won me a match when they were able to traffic jam literally like 5 vehicles from getting any movement for a big turn (the board was terrain dense & dude set half of his armor on one flank, I setup a few units of chaff on that side & managed to block them into alleys at then if T2). I didn't charge or anything, I just moved them so they were 1.1" in front of their army & let them sit there to die. So don't be afraid to let them die essentially, they're only 70pt after all! As for 1k, I normally play note casual at that point level but regardless I'd deeefinitely bring a GUO w/enhancement + one of the other Greater Daemons of your choice (prolly LoC tho Skar is amazing too). The last ~400pt or so I'd straight up just fill with Nurglings / Hounds / Flamers and/or Seekers (cheap crap to grab obj). The other way is to bring more killy stuff as 1k is usually more of a tabling match tho it's important to learn the value of scoring Hopefully that helps a bit! I'm happy to answer anything else if I misinterpreted or you're curious about more :)

I actually have a video that kinda touches on that, though it's long so maybe just checkout the example 1k lists at the end. That said, for 1k I'd prolly bring x1 Greater Daemon, a hammer (Bloodcrushers, Fiends, Soul Grinder, etc), a battleline & then a few fast squads to do my actions. If you really want a strong 1k list, bring GUO w/the Enhancement. Dude should be invulnerable at that pts level. Tzeentch is still good imho! They might struggle A LITTLE if going strictly mono god but Lord of Change spam is no joke You might checkout Barnyard Gaming's YT channel, I believe he ran a mono Tzeentch army at a tournament recently that did decent

Only certain things are capped but luckily AP & leadership tests aren't. For leadership you can't modify their *characteristic* worse than 9 I believe but the vast majority of abilities effect the dice roll not the stat Its mainly modifiers to hit/wound that cap at 1... I'm not even sure what else off the top of my head tbh. Certain stats can't go below 1 too I suppose
You can't sticky turn 1 off a scout. You don't control the objective until after the start of the command phase so you would have to be going 2nd and have the seekers to survive until your turn 1st turn to get it sticky round 1. "A player will control an objective marker at the end of any phase if their Level of Control over it is greater than their opponent’s. If both players have the same Level of Control over an objective marker, that objective marker is contested. " So no objectives are controlled by anyone until the end of the first command phase, so you can't even sticky your home objective going first turn 1. This is also why all the units that sticky objectives do it at the end of the command phase. fwiw I was doing this wrong for a bit myself until a friend pointed out how it didn't work with the rules currently. Not that it matters much, but Syll'esske giving the buff to daemonettes only makes (already successful wounds) of 5+ into crits. So toughness 8 or higher things are still only getting crit on 6s. That aside, I really enjoyed the video. Thanks for making it. I've also fallen out with Be'lakor and have shifted those points into more efficient daemons. I think I'll have to give the plague drones a go since my list is already jamming Rotigus and a GUO.
@@nacktmuell123 There are plenty of units with rules that say "crit on 5+" without any extra requirements. Syll explicitly requires the wound roll to be successful before it scores a 5+ crit.
dude is probably "getting all those wins" because of rules errors like this. i doubt anyone has ever challenged him calling sticky on t1 but still. not something he should have been gassing up in the video because its obviously wrong.

Hop on TTS & try it for yourself man! So long as you have the Enhancement for S12 it's not at all uncommon to pop a Predator equivalent (esp if you're within range for both weapons and/or use the +1AP strat w/sustain d3). Admittedly I was probably too hype on it so it sounded like it *always* happens but legit it's a little tank shredder! Seriously though give it a shot, obviously lots of variables + dice we're talking about but I've seen it myself plenty of times :) He's my main AT these days
My friend plays demons, not me. He runs lord of chang almost every game. It never comes close to killing a tank. He tried killing a vindicator last night with your strat and did 4 damage. Which is par for the course with it. Also once it comes across anything with a 4++ it's definitely not killing it.
Trippy! UnitCrunch gives a 65% of killing a Predator with just the Enhancement + Sustained d3 & then 85% with +1AP Vindicator is 32% baseline or 57% with the AP. Not shabby at all, either leaves them limping or maybe toss in a rr if it's vital. A Vindicator shooting another Vindicator is "only" a 33% chance! Obviously lots of variable & dice we're talking about but yeah man, I still think it's legit! That said I appreciate your pov regardless, for sure it's going to fall flat from time to time
Dude, friggin Belakor. I keep yo-yo'ing on him lol. I still think he's subpar compared to all the other GDs (esp now with their own auras) but that damn Lone Op bubble is a life saver in some match ups. So yeah, I may not like him but he's still decent 😜
Extremely! That's actually the most common way to run them, just be sure to keep it alive :) I always Deepstrike it as far away from my debuff target as possible & use Realm of Chaos to go back into reserves if I need to
UPDATE: Its been brought to my attention that you don't technically take control of an objective until the end of a phase/turn, so the 'sticky obj with scouts if opponent goes first' won't work. Sorry for any confusion! (I thought the strategem overwrote that but it clearly says "you control")

When you kill a character with a Precision, the unit he was attached to doesn't lose a leader buff right away. Until the end of all the attacking units attacks the leader is still considered attached

I've been having some luck with epidemius attached to the plaguebearer squad. I put them front and center pointing to the middle objective, but toeing on my home objective. The cp rule is secondary to making that squad have a 4+ invuln. Pair that squad with a Nurgle daemon prince on foot (with upgrade) or a GUO with bell.
Belakor is a good "all comer" take, but most tournament tables don't have a problem providing LOS blocking terrain. if your local meta has very little or no terrain, Belakor is a mandatory take.
Soul grinders should be meta. I've got 3 of them and they always soak up plenty of damage while dealing consistent damage back. I've used denizens of the warp to pull heavily wounded soul grinders to my home objective to heal up and provide deepstrike screening.
Great point on the terrain & Belakor viability, I fully agree. Heck even on dense boards he's still perfectly serviceable
Grinders are awesome, basically getting GD damage output for cheap. They work great at both defense & offense too, pretty much their only downside is their size

Man, Skarbrand has ended up being such an essential part of the way I play my Daemons. He's basically anti-keystone.. Wraith blobs, Meganobz etc, I don't leave home without him anymore lol

Nice list my fellow Deamonic lord! I'd love to see some changes to the Tzeentch stuff most of all. They're quite underpowered compared to the Nurgle and Khorne units. Quite silly GW didn't change anything in our slate at all... If they are going to lower the cost on weaker units in other armies, they should definitely do it for everyone. Very positive video! Very informative. Keep at it! 😁 If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend the fateskimmer bomb with screamers starting on the table, then take them off and leave them in reserve as a rapid ingress threat! 27w with 14" move and mortals coming in from reserves later in the game is... very scary! It's a nice way around 'you must' arrive back on the board with the stratagem.
Yeah some of Tzeentch & most of Slaanesh really need some love. They don't have the synergies like Khorne & Nurgle can get up to so unlike them they can't "super boost" the lesser profiles. Still, we lucked out most of the army is still usable but it'd be nice to get some more variety in there. Clever combo with Fateskimmer, I always run him solo but have to hide him everywhere so he doesn't just get shot off the board. With a bodyguard that'd be a different ballgame!
I have a bit of a sleeper combo. I run skarbrand with a khorne soul grinder. Since it gives grinder the khorne keyword, it means that it gets the melee bonuses from skarbrand. I like to airdrop him 6" in the bubble, unload the gunfire, which you can splitfite if you want. People always expect it to be a shoots unit but i have had a tone of success running him with skarbrand as a melee/overwatch threat. I prefer the Warpsword over the claw because more ap and potential more damage. Thing is the shooting is still good because harvester canon is strength 10 2 damage. Playing him melee also means you can use tankshock on him, so 11 dice for potential insta wounds. I highly recommend trying it. I like to run it with either multiple great unclean or rotigus to hold objs, or just one unclean with a lord of change holding midboard with belakors lone op.
I tryed Belakorless mononurgle list with some success - all your units are quite tuff anyway to survive some shooting
One advantage with regular blood thirster is "The king of blades" Running both should be good in mono khorne list. Great video!

Good video. I'm just starting my Daemons army, and am still trying to find my optimised list, so this video is helpful. 100% agree on Belakor, I don't think he is needed, especially on WTC terrain. You've also convinced me to try and fit some flamers into the list.
Just a note regarding Skarbrand. You do need to pay movement for circular rotation in 10th (you cant rotate for free like earlier editions). Because of that, Im still finding the Bloodthirster useful, especially with the mortal wounds at the end of the fight phase

With belakor you can use the strat to put 2 units in deep strike and then use the 3 inch deep strike for his 6 inch aura of chaos. Now you can bring in a bloodthirster or shalaxi etc 6 inches away. Nothing like turn 1 going second dropping 2 big threats in their face while the rest of your army scores
As much trash as I talked about Belakor, he unlocks allll sorts of shenanigans like that. Throwing down 2 GDs T1 can/will definitely catch some people off guard hah. Tbh I think his 6" shadow bubble is more valuable than anything else he brings
Got used to playing without belakor but now ive added him back in he is such a useful tool to wipe out the enemy in one turn lol

I used Be´lakor in my first 3 games. Now he is on a shelf collecting dust and that is not feeling good.
Now I play most Nurgle/Khorne combos and add sometimes flamers.
I will soon try 3 Soul Grinders in a friendly game, will be nice to see if it works out well. (we always do tactical. ;-) )

Glad you enjoyed the vid! One trick you might try with LoC is to use the +1AP strategem & then choose Ignores Cover as his ability. Taking a Vindicator to a 5+ or Preds to a 6+ can make all the difference for actually finishing them off. It's never guaranteed but esp with that strat the odds should still be in your favor :)
You dont lose character buff until you resolve the combat. So even if the skulltaker kills someone giving fnp 5+, the unit still has fnp for the rest of the attacks. Ruoes commentary is clear on this.

Fiends I really do need to revisit, they started out the edition so badly (150pt!) but someone else asked me about them recently & I realized how bias I've been because of the "first impressions", if I could go back & re-record this tbh I'd probably include them as a flex pick. 120pt is totally fair for them, Beast + good buff + decent damage + sick models = $$

Great video! I love tzeentch this edition. A lot complain that they're underpowered but pink horror spam is so annoying it's hilarious. You also forgot to talk about the flux master but don't worry GW forgot about him too :(
Lord of Change is probably my favorite Greater Daemon atm & Flamers are way up there for me too hah. Pinks have been surprisingly good pretty much every time I've ran them too - overall I'm happy with Tzeentch but I do wish the rest of their profiles would get some boosts. Still feel bad for Slaanesh tho :(

I hate souping, and only own Khorne Daemons + Be'lakor. I could definitely make something work, but until the codex comes out with a Khorne specific detachment idk how often I'll run them.
Of the mono versions, Khorne's the best one imho! You might check out 40kstats.com, I'm not sure if it's still up but there was a Khorne list that won a bigger tournament if I'm not mistaken
That said, yeah they're still better when souping gods for sure! Belakor is perfectly fine too, lots & lots of people win GTs+ all the time with him :)

Brigands are pretty legit though I would question if a Soul Grinder would give you basically the same output + a better invul, melee & just overall resilience. You would miss out on the OC & mobility but I do think he edges them out
All that said a lot of Daemons lists have successfully brought along CK so it's not a bad call! They're awesome from the cool factor alone so you've got that too hah

I believe I meant with their Mortal Wounds output, each model has a 50% chance of doing d3 Mortal Wounds on the pile in before they even fight. Pretty nasty!

Have you ever run a Roti a GUO, a Kairos, a LoC and a few other things in a list? Maybe with 2 grinders (one nurgle, one tzeentch)? Seems like a lot of fun.
Not that exact combo but I've ran some that were relatively close to that before! (lots of Tzeentch shooting w/Grinders) It's a really fun style with all that firepower, almost feels like a Drukhari army hah. Normally I skip Nurgle Grinders but getting some extra Indirect to go with Kairos would help shore that up. Slaanesh is a pretty good choice for Grinders too - x6 S9 AP2 D2 with Sustained + Dev Wounds, makes for a pretty nasty combination vs elites 'n the sort
Honestly when my opponent tries to rush belakor to take out that large amount of points, I take it with pride. I do what they least expect and charge him straight in there against their whole army. This usually distracts and confuses my opponent enough for me to pick up some objectives elsewhere 😂
You know, that's a valid tactic for sure hah, I've done similar. Especially when he's surrounded by 3+ other Greater Daemons its a sorta screwed either way situation for your opponent 😜
@fatarchon totally! I'm looking to revamp my list a bit. I have access to allsorts of units but I know fot certain I want to use lord of change and be'lakor. Do you have any suggestions? How are flamers feeling at the moment?
LoC + Belakor is a great combo in my experience, depending on the target you can hit them but they can't hit you back w/the 18" bubble. He's also great even w/melee units as a lot of times you can deploy on the line. Flamers are still one of my all-star units though (along with Screamers). I don't even really use them for damage but mainly for scoring which they seem to excel at. 3W 4++ is really damn good at only 75pt, so yeah I'd highly recommend them! If you want to go the damage route a full 6-man can be brutal with overwatch & the sort. Don't sleep on Screamers either, they do even less damage but 14" move thru walls is A+
@fatarchon the mortal wounds from screamers are rather nice too. They don't really benefit from lord of change too well but they want to run about doing their own thing anyway. I'm glad flamers are still good though. Thanks for the tips
I feel like you didn’t discuss the merits of Bloodthirsters enough. Yes they are bigger and more expensive. But the +1 to hit applies to all Khorne units which is great. It means being damaged has no effect or negates -1 to hit enemies. He also has Fly so much harder to screen him. And he’s 50% faster than Skarbrand. And he has Relentless Carnage for mortal triggers. And he can be enhanced to give even more Str and # of attacks. I’ve never had one fail to perform in a game.
Nah you're probably right, I should've included the BT! He's not *that* far behind Skarbrand (imho!) & makes a great substitute if you don't have one or better yet to include along with 'em. Great point on the Enhancement too so touche!

I have not yet found an answer to the following Horror related question so maybe some guys here could help me:
If a Pink Horror dies you obviously roll for a split into a blue Horror. If the next attack of a unit then kills another one - can you decide if the next pink horror dies or one of the blue ones or do you need to kill all pink horrors because you roll for the blue ones? As the pink horrors are much better I would do it in this order: Pink -> Blue-> Yellow-> Pink etc.
You're talking about 2 separate units shooting at them right? In that case you'd get to choose! If you mean from a single units attacks, you don't roll until they finish all their rolls so you'd only get to pull from whatever models were alive initially. & yes generally you'd kill off the small ones first tho sometimes popping a pink is helpful for the extra movement / screening

If then another unit attacks my horrors unit that now consists of pink and blue horrors I can choose for each attack which model I remove. If then a third unit attacks my unit that would then potentially consist of pink, blue and brimstone horrors I can choose between all of them?

You're spot on, it's only per unit's attacks not phases or anything / it doesn't restrict you to only picking Pinks so you're free to split whichever models you want 😎 Only caveat is if your unit is completely wiped out by a single enemy unit's attacks, in that case you don't roll anything. Hey so I have 2000 pts of khorne daemons, (been playing since 8th, so I using them when they weren’t good lol) and I was thinking about getting nurgle stuff next. So I would probably go 1k Khorne and 1k Nurgle. My locals does 1k matches though, so I would go 500 khorne and 500 nurgle, I was wondering what units should I focus on getting first? I have never played aTabletop Wargame. I want to get into Warhammer. I don't know the rules really. I've watched some games online. I've read some units. I really like Nurgle and Daemons so they're definitley want I want to build, probably along side a small Death Guard army with lots of Nurgle allies. I struggle to follow along to some of these in depth videos on how to play Daemons. No pressure, but if you ever made a video of how to play Warhammer using the Daemons as an example and incorporating the stratergies you talk about, I'd find it incredibly helpful. Likewise, if you have any suggestions of where (online) I can go to learn, I'd appriciate it.
Also, what is that program you use to play online? Is it table top simulator?

Daemons would be great for it too because of all the variety so I'd be able to cover most of the bases (infiltrators, scouting etc). All that said, probably the best way to learn to play online is through Tabletop Simulator. It's the same program I used to record these vids & 100% there's normally multiple people willing to teach you how to play. Should be $10 on Steam & otherwise is completely free! I actually have a tutorial on using it if that's something you ever want to checkout. Once you're on the discord you would just type "@LFG Beginner - would someone be willing to teach me how to play 40k?" something like that. They also have "@LFG Mentor" I believe which will ping a teacher. You'll have to spend a little bit creating an army & getting familiar with the controls beforehand but trust me it's worth it. PS: for your very first match I'd do a smaller army. Like 500pt maybe 750pt. You can also play a match or two versus yourself before hopping onto the Discord, just to figure out the basics. Be sure to read the description & pinned comment too, there's a new way of creating armies aside from just BattleScribe

That's a great question actually! To be upfront at 1k I normally write a more fluffy list as it's usually a more casual style match, but not everyone follows that mantra + there's 1k leagues & the sort out there
Your list would be FUN as-is so I see no issues there hah. 1k is tricky as it's usually less about scoring & more about tabling your opponent, so I think you might have the right idea with all the big hitters. I might consider dropping the Prince for a Bloodletter Bomb (letters + bloodmaster), not only would it do more damage but it'd give you great practice with the Daemon playstyle of deepstriking / teleporting around with Strategems
Normally I'd probably say consider dropping Belakor but let's be real here, the model is sick & despite all my qualms he'd actually shine pretty well in a smaller game just from how tough he is. If you go to a tournament or the sort tho then yeah I'd say *consider* dropping him for like a GUO + some chaff

I think Rotigus + Letters is way stronger then Belakor so good swap!! As for vs Orks, I haven't gotten to fight the new Codex yet so I'm not positive the best route to go yet. But if you're playing 1k be aware they can T1 charge you pretty reliably with the board size so I'd ask my opponent what their range is with Waaagh & measure it out when deploying, unless you can take it. I'd get a GUO on objective ASAP as they should have some trouble getting through his T12. Lastly just remember all the strats we have, if they leave you openings to steal primary or the sort be sure to take it!
So, I am really contemplating starting a daemon army. I have the combat patrol, Belakor, and a lord of change. The only things holding me back is where to go next. I love Nurgle so will probably go heavy that route. What would you suggest?
Hmm, well you have a great base to work off of so really you could go almost any direction & come out alright I would think! If you already have the CP, grabbing Skarbrand or a Bloodthirster wouldn't hurt but otw for stuff that'd be universally helpful (imho) I'd recommend a box or 2 of Nurglings + a squad of Plaguebearers. Both of those are ran in the majority of Daemon lists & will carry their weight utility wise. If you want to go heavy into Nurgle than instead of Skarbrand you could get a GUO to go along with those guys. Don't forget scoring so I'd eventually look into something speedier as well; Plague Drones for Nurgle or Flamers/Screamers for Tzeentch
But yeah, I'd think Nurglings for sure, Plaguebearers because they're so cheap $ wise too. Beyond that a Greater Daemon of your choice (GUO or Skar/BT). Instead of a scoring unit you could grab another heavy hitter too, so think Soul Grinder and/or some more Bloodcrushers or the sort :)

could you explain how blocking the larger units with the screens of hounds works? I've been playing with friends and I didn't even know this rule existed. Do they make the large unit count as in cover? I would love to see an example of a 1k points demons list
So it doesn't have anything to do with cover or the sort but just physically blocking out the opponent from either charging your key units and/or blocking your opponent from getting movement with their own units. Just the other night a squad of Flesh Hounds basically single handidly won me a match when they were able to traffic jam literally like 5 vehicles from getting any movement for a big turn (the board was terrain dense & dude set half of his armor on one flank, I setup a few units of chaff on that side & managed to block them into alleys at then if T2). I didn't charge or anything, I just moved them so they were 1.1" in front of their army & let them sit there to die. So don't be afraid to let them die essentially, they're only 70pt after all!
As for 1k, I normally play note casual at that point level but regardless I'd deeefinitely bring a GUO w/enhancement + one of the other Greater Daemons of your choice (prolly LoC tho Skar is amazing too). The last ~400pt or so I'd straight up just fill with Nurglings / Hounds / Flamers and/or Seekers (cheap crap to grab obj). The other way is to bring more killy stuff as 1k is usually more of a tabling match tho it's important to learn the value of scoring

What would you suggest to a person for their first 1000 points if they were looking to get into demons and also be viable in the competitive scene?
I actually have a video that kinda touches on that, though it's long so maybe just checkout the example 1k lists at the end. That said, for 1k I'd prolly bring x1 Greater Daemon, a hammer (Bloodcrushers, Fiends, Soul Grinder, etc), a battleline & then a few fast squads to do my actions. If you really want a strong 1k list, bring GUO w/the Enhancement. Dude should be invulnerable at that pts level. Hey, can someone explain something? I thought u cant stack abilities like -AP or leadership. I think it maxes at 1
Only certain things are capped but luckily AP & leadership tests aren't. For leadership you can't modify their *characteristic* worse than 9 I believe but the vast majority of abilities effect the dice roll not the stat
Its mainly modifiers to hit/wound that cap at 1... I'm not even sure what else off the top of my head tbh. Certain stats can't go below 1 too I suppose

You can't sticky turn 1 off a scout. You don't control the objective until after the start of the command phase so you would have to be going 2nd and have the seekers to survive until your turn 1st turn to get it sticky round 1.
"A player will control an objective marker at the
end of any phase if their Level of Control over it is greater than
their opponent’s. If both players have the same Level of Control
over an objective marker, that objective marker is contested. "
So no objectives are controlled by anyone until the end of the first command phase, so you can't even sticky your home objective going first turn 1. This is also why all the units that sticky objectives do it at the end of the command phase.
fwiw I was doing this wrong for a bit myself until a friend pointed out how it didn't work with the rules currently.
Not that it matters much, but Syll'esske giving the buff to daemonettes only makes (already successful wounds) of 5+ into crits. So toughness 8 or higher things are still only getting crit on 6s.
That aside, I really enjoyed the video. Thanks for making it. I've also fallen out with Be'lakor and have shifted those points into more efficient daemons. I think I'll have to give the plague drones a go since my list is already jamming Rotigus and a GUO.
A critical wound is always successful, so yes, they wound anything on 5s
@@nacktmuell123 There are plenty of units with rules that say "crit on 5+" without any extra requirements. Syll explicitly requires the wound roll to be successful before it scores a 5+ crit.
dude is probably "getting all those wins" because of rules errors like this. i doubt anyone has ever challenged him calling sticky on t1 but still. not something he should have been gassing up in the video because its obviously wrong.

FWIW I learned it from someone doing it to me once & just never considered the fact you don't technically own it until the end of that phase. Luckily it still works if you take first turn but yeah that's a big difference. Thank you for bringing that up!!

There's no way a lord of change is popping a tank per turn. That thing is lucky if it does any meaningful danage to a tank in a turn
Hop on TTS & try it for yourself man! So long as you have the Enhancement for S12 it's not at all uncommon to pop a Predator equivalent (esp if you're within range for both weapons and/or use the +1AP strat w/sustain d3). Admittedly I was probably too hype on it so it sounded like it *always* happens but legit it's a little tank shredder!
Seriously though give it a shot, obviously lots of variables + dice we're talking about but I've seen it myself plenty of times :) He's my main AT these days
My friend plays demons, not me. He runs lord of chang almost every game. It never comes close to killing a tank. He tried killing a vindicator last night with your strat and did 4 damage. Which is par for the course with it. Also once it comes across anything with a 4++ it's definitely not killing it.
Trippy! UnitCrunch gives a 65% of killing a Predator with just the Enhancement + Sustained d3 & then 85% with +1AP
Vindicator is 32% baseline or 57% with the AP. Not shabby at all, either leaves them limping or maybe toss in a rr if it's vital. A Vindicator shooting another Vindicator is "only" a 33% chance!
Obviously lots of variable & dice we're talking about but yeah man, I still think it's legit! That said I appreciate your pov regardless, for sure it's going to fall flat from time to time

Dude, friggin Belakor. I keep yo-yo'ing on him lol. I still think he's subpar compared to all the other GDs (esp now with their own auras) but that damn Lone Op bubble is a life saver in some match ups. So yeah, I may not like him but he's still decent 😜
