@@keladwynsolkas Just for information: The Poles at the beginning of the siege tried to storm Smolensk, a constant battle lasted three days. The Poles managed to blow up one of the gates, and they launched a tight formation of their soldiers to storm this gate. These soldiers were shot from the city walls by artillery. It is this event that was showed in the cartoon, which does not have to be completely historically reliable. Then there was a long war of undermining, which the Poles also lost. Then the Poles dragged artillery and bombarded the city for a long time, but lost the artillery duel, since the city’s towers had an advantage. Then there was a year of blockade, when Russian sorties constantly weakened Polish troops. Then new assaults, in which the Poles were more successful, but still lost. As a result, over two years of fighting, the Poles lost 30 thousand people, despite the fact that the garrison was less than 6 thousand. Smolensk eventually fell. But the Poles lost the war and lost Smolensk too. And if you do not believe it, look at the map, where is this Poland, which then was the largest state in Europe. I don't know if you actually watched it but if watch the ending it does say that the Smolensk fortress fell to the polish army in 2 years. If the year depicted here is 1609 then I don't see what you are complaining about. Sure it is a Russian cartoon and does depict the polish as the antagonists (I have nothing against the polish, they are Slavs therefore I treat them as all other Slavs: with love and respect) but this is done for the ease of understanding the idea and not bogging this terrible siege with too much of the death and diluting it with some comedy.

I gotta say, even as Russian propaganda(I know little, Ive only really seen this just now) this is BEAUTIFULLY animated. In the US its rare for animation to be anything but kids crap, but its great to see such a well done attempt to recreate a battle with animation of this era. EDIT Listen I don't know if it is or not. I have no idea of the movie itself.
Poland was the one to invade in that war. Breaking news: shiny armor and wings dont make you a good guy if you invade a sovereign country's territory and take forceful control of it.
Just Dude Breaking news: good guy is a relative term. The Polish thought themselves to be good guys. The Russians thought themselves to be good guys. Even kingdoms that weren’t involved wouldn’t automatically say the Russians were the good guys simply because the Polish were the aggressors. Some would’ve thought ill of Poland’s invasion, yet others would see it as justified. Virtue is subject to the perception of all, no two beliefs identical.
@@MajorAce_usedtobeMechchad your free to mention the name and surname of any winged Hussar who were not knights. They all had to be Szlachta to be winged hussar as far as I know. Few people were able to afford the equipment as well.
I totally agree. What gets me though is how Different the forests of Russia is different from those of the US. From what I have read, the forests have the trees more spread out and more open to the air. Where the US forests tend to be more like a solid ceiling like. You can walk into the forest and see much more vegetation closer together and could hide wild animals. An this is AFTER 300+ years of colonization. An yet it still has a very wild and creepy look. Where Russian woods are again more spread out. If the hussars were charging at that fort in North America and the fort didn't cut down the woods around them. The Hussars Seriously could ride up to the gates and no one would have known until the hussars were right on top of them.
Could someone point me as to where I could watch this animation with english/polish subtitles if such even exists? My own research only resulted in russian review sites at best and totally different movies at worst.
По милости М.Н.
Okay I feel like clearing up something about this movie. I'm not trying to defend any country out there, just merely clarify some misconceptions. *The movie is not set in 1683 during the siege of Vienna* . It is a movie about 1609 Siege of *Smolensk* , which actually happened in history. Yes, the Polish Hussars actually fought on the offensive side and it is a recorded historical fact, so I'm not sure why everybody is saying that this is propaganda. In the full movie the Russians win the battle though it is stated in the epilogue that Smolensk did fall. I agree that this is kind of a cheat-out to show an ultimative victory of the Russian defenders and just merely mention the historical fact once the movie has ended, however it is hardly worse than the real war crimes of other countries being signed up to Russia in the newest COD game. In the end I think they need to create another cartoon like this but this time make it about the Osowiec fortress. There's plenty of room there for some "Russia stronk" flex with vodka and hardbass, plus no one is going to accuse them of painting the Germans as the bad guys since it's a widely known fact that they were, during both world wars.
Well, not during WWI - not really. It was just one great, big, glorious clusterfuck of jingoism and ancient grudges culminating in a War to End All Wars. Which is not to say that Imperial Germany _didn't_ do terrible things in WWI, but compared to their contemporaries they were hardly the irredeemable _Evil_ that the Nazis would be revealed as 25 years later. And, even then, the Soviets under Stalin weren't much better.
No, it tells how the Russians defended the city. The Defense of Smolensk (Smolenskaya Defense) is one of the key episodes of the Russian-Polish War of 1609-1618. Polish-Lithuanian troops of King Sigismund III under the command of Polish Hetman Crown Stanislav Zholkevsky from September 16 (26), 1609 to June 3 (13), 1611 besieged strategically important Smolensk, defended by a Russian garrison under the command of voivode Mikhail Shein. The siege ended with the capture of the city after the complete exhaustion of the garrison of the fortress, however, due to the heavy losses suffered near Smolensk, the army of King Sigismund III subsequently could not go to Moscow to help the Polish garrison, and retreated to the borders of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Yeah it is Russian propaganda movie. It makes little sense in terms of characters' motivations. But at least in Russian movies Polish are always shown as capable warriors which cannot be said about stuff from USA. Netflix Witcher series show it. Another example is Jack Strong (black spy in People Poland would be as ordinary as Christmast in July)
Omg which propaganda? Just awesome russian cartoon. There is even our enemys - poles showed as brave warriors as they were actually. Is your Disney is not propaganda?
Thanks to M.N. Tukhachevsky, after the "Miracle on the Vistula", tens of thousands of Red Army soldiers were captured by the Poles. They were killed - by lead, iron, torture or hunger. Oddly enough, there were no Germans on Polish territory at that time. And now, when I hear some demands, some scurrying about some Katyn, some Warsaw... Guys, it's not good to sew a cat into a Red Army soldier's stomach "to see who dies first".

We leave the context of the cartoon, whether it is propaganda or not. The attack is well organized. The standard-bearer's escape is the most powerful scene in the cartoon.
at the end of the cartoon, the Poles will retreat. The cartoon, by the way, is called the "Fortress:sword and shield" about the defense of Smolensk by the Russians
"Sorry my dear anime fans. Yes its not a topic of my channel. The brazen Poles in this cartoon are antagonists, but the way their army and battles are worked out, arouses interest in them as an Empire from Star Wars. The authors have worked out the historical context perfectly.
Lots of history with the Hussars. Their primary advantage was flexibility -they were fast and heavily armed, capable of outmaneuvering heavier forces and catching lighter forces. In fact, that was what what made them so effective at the Battle of Vienna -maneuver.
Russians and Poles - we are brothers! To hell with all these fratricidal wars. We are Slavs and should be friendly and in solidarity with each other... Don't let the politicians divide us!!!

Hi. As a turkish person, i liked the animations whether it's propaganda or not (didn't understand which part is though), and wanted to say this; whatever happened is in the past. just for your information: you say that this is a propaganda cartoon. I don't know if you actually watched it but if watch the ending it does say that the Smolensk fortress fell to the polish army in 2 years. If the year depicted here is 1609 then I don't see what you are complaining about. The cartoon is based on the historical events but has much fiction in it which should be understood since the cartoon is made for kids.
Everithing "made in Russia" is "Russian propaganda" for them. Even if it is 2x2=4 statament.

This cartoon is honored to Smolensk's siege in XVII. Poland with False Dmitry II wanted to conquer Russia using dynastical crysis.

Wat a bullshit. Hussars never atack buildings. Its fact.
Poland was the one to invade in that war. Breaking news: shiny armor and wings dont make you a good guy if you invade a sovereign country's territory and take forceful control of it.
Just Dude
Breaking news: good guy is a relative term.

@@Siathuan советы при Сталине, о, эти байки про злого советского солдата.
@@ЕгорФишь And what, could you tell me, was good in Soviets for Poland? Please enlighten me because I don't know about any such thing.
Does anybody know where I can find this film, with english captions also? The animation looks gorgeous!

Hi. As a turkish person, i liked the animations whether it's propaganda or not (didn't understand which part is though), and wanted to say this; whatever happened is in the past. We can praise, we can grief, but in the end we are not enemies. This is history. We shouldn't continue the hate because of something happened like 300h years or so. We should take lessons from the history and just look at it as a pure source to enlighten our past. Nothing beyond that. Im not talking about ottoman jokes, if it makes you laugh then by no means, go for it. But don't be hateful about a whole nation because something happened in the past that wasn't in our control. Keep safe, take care.
