It makes lot of sense and it's very much logical for Google to have its own custom HW platform like TPU. The benefits r quite obvious even chip development costs fortune u got all control and power in your hands. Google is an AI pioneer and this action is more than expected. I just hope Google goes beyond their AI chips and datacenters and don't forget about consumer PC Chrome OS market besides mobile Android segment.

I do not want to picky, but the statement that Google's TPUs made attention possible is a little bit of overstretch. The paper itself says explicitly than Nvidia GPUs were used during training and does not mention TPUs at all. This is the best proof that we should take each and every statement made by people, who have their skin in the game, with a grain of salt.

Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.
