Liam in Ireland here, brings back many happy memories of working on a 2400 b, that was on a barge on the Clyde estuary 1989, driving piles ect. Was a truly wonderful machine, then owned by French kier. Best job I was ever on & best work mate s a man could ever have, so sad so many are gone r i p pilkey& Harry. 😔🙏
This is a fully mechanical transmission machine with single (common) engine, without hydraulics? How the thacks drive is arranged? Mechanical transmission with vertical shaft and chain drive to each caterpillar?
Yes, like he said. Then from reverse trans shaft (swing/propel) to deck gear w/jaw chutch to vertical propel shaft to horizontal propel shaft via pinion gear to each side intermediate shaft that have jaw clutches left and right to engage outboard propel shaft that turns drive spocket spinning the 5" to 6" 2000lbs each propel/travel chain around tumbler spocket making it finally move on its 102 550lbs each track pads! There are a lot of moving parts. FYI if you dont have oversized travel chain try to cut/turn in forward propel only or you will be repairing or replacing those chains soon, and they are not easy being they're on the inside of the track frames.

Awesome machines, looks like someone got sick of hitting hard hats on rear air intake and relocated it to the roof!
I lost count the number of times i did exactly this walk round. Any chance we see it working?
That would have been a Nice paint scheme, once upon a time. ✅
Where is this anyway??? I never seem one digging in water up north,
Just in Florida..!!

The main shaft/mechanics is run via a torque converter, a jack take off shaft using the swing to travel.
