there is no benefit to other competitors in seeing someone else's test results. All these numbers are individual and doesn't really mean much so far out
@@JoshNishitani So giving competitors detailwd Information on your Level of Fitness doesnt helo them? They can just compare and figure how much slower/faszer theyre gonna ne on a bike. Its still some time to competition but theres a reason no one else does it.
Hans Fabian Koeger comparing how an individual is able to produce and get rid of lactate is not beneficial. This is only useful for his coach and himself to see what training he can utilise to optimise results. Everyone knows Lionel is killer on the bike leg, what does this tell a competitor? Oh he produces 4.7 mmol at 430 Watts? What are they gonna do? Start training harder all of a sudden? Lactate is not an indicator of fitness on its own, so giving someone their lactate threshold holds no benefit, this isn’t like someone revealing a teams strategy or full training plan.
@Hans Fabian Koeger. Can’t thank these guys enough. Great comment. Don’t listen to the bullies of course any information you pass on to your competitors can be used against you. Especially over an 180k ride.
The question here is not about lactate. The relevant data he shows is his race pace at 70.3 (around 360 watts according to what he said) and the race pace he used in Dissecting Kona (bike episode) when he reveals he did the IM in Kona last year at around 320 watts for the entire course! If that's not relevant I dont know what is. That and his HR data provides a lot of information for his rivals and anyone interested to analyse
It's a good indication of how inshape his heart is in, how efficient it is at pumping blood. Most elite cyclists have lower heart rates like this at the power he's pushing, and often even lower than his.
Idk what you mean by "boring video" Talbot, i think it's extremely interesting and once again, it amazes me how much information Lionel wants us to see! Great work Talbot and Lionel ofc ;)
That was a very interesting video. Much appreciated! Unbelievable numbers. More than 500 Watts with a HRmax of 150 in the end and only 6 mmol/l lactate. Well, I better quit triathlon, I guess.
Not a boring video at all @Talbot . For those of us who love data and numbers, this is YT gold, coupled with out favourite sport. Also is fun to watch others suffer. Having done 2 lactate threshold tests before I sympathise with Lionel's feelings. Keep up the great work all concerned. Onwards and Upwards 💪🏽❗❗❗
@SEAL CYCLE I agree with you. Hopefully this year he'll stick with and listen to his coach. He really needs to learn to hold back and don't be burnt out in the most important day of the season. You too have a great day!
This is so interesting, fantastic to see all this theory being talked and talked about and being applied in the living room like normal people. Hats off for showing this, its moving the sport forward for everyone. Thankyou so so much.
TC: “Lionels café legs are going for a dump in the middle of a session”. LS: “I usually run to the toilet so it’s technically active recovery”. Well played gentlemen, well played.
Lionel is very humbe. He trust in his coach 100% otherwise he wouldn't do all these painful tests. Max HR 148 @ 510 Watt... promising numbers in February. He born for this. He has the best chance to win Hawaii in 2020. Last year break will paid off this year.
Dude.....this is why I keep coming back to watch. There’s such a wide variety of things to digest with all the LS vids. Nice work! Fun to watch. Fell asleep last night watching, but was able to see the entire episode. Very interesting to watch your numbers, especially your incredibly low HR!!!! Your all out max HR is my high Zone 2... Congratulations on the atitude of revealing all this data. Respect!
William Shelby oh yeah I should of not cut that part. Sorry I was just trying to fast forward and make the video shorter. When doing a lactate test you can only drink water. Any sugar or carbs can alter the results. David was confirming it was water not Gatorade.
Talbot that was awesome. Not boring at all. Quite the opposite. Thank you and Lionel for being so transparent. Helps us AG’ers think about structure and science and progression. Also pls tell Lionel not to blow his nose in his sweat towel.
From my point of view as an amateur triathlete, I think we have seen the best form of several triathletes such as Frodeno, Kienle or Lange (there are more of course) who take many more years of training than Lionel. The impressive thing about this is that Lionel, with his training system done all by himself, without anyone's help (which in my opinion is not optimal since it is always good to rely on professionals who know more than us), has given them fight top triathletes. We haven't seen Lionel's true final form yet. I hope that with all this, we will see it.

Hi Lionel! Great to follow your channel. I've got a question, what's the difference in watts readings between your Stages and Kickr Core? You mentioned it at around 30:00 but I could not hear it completely.. Thanks ENdre
I know it sounds weird but this boring video was hugely interesting and inspiring. Don't know why, but it was ;-) Just seeing the heartrate go down after stopping, wow! I'm heading out to the trainer now...
Why is Lionel not doing the efforts on the aerobars? I thought it would be more race specific to gather data in actual race position (namely on the aeros).
Good video. Would be very interested in the subtle changes to the Threshold workouts. Also, the low HR was due to fatigue from the workouts leading up? Would this change results of Lactate testing?
His stroke volume is extremely high due to having a very powerful heart. Cardiac output = stroke volume * heart rate. Newer endurance athletes do not have the stroke volume to sustain a lower heart rate, and so you will see a higher heart rate. With a very conditioned athlete, they do not need to maintain an extremely high heart (due to having a high stroke volume) rate to maintain adequate cardiac output and therefore have a lower heart rate.
@@easyqcpass That's a good question. From my understanding it should theoretically be an advantage since more blood per stroke should result in increased perfusion of the active muscles. Not only does a higher stroke volume increase the amount of oxygen available for uptake, it can shuttle away waste (such as co2 and lactate) which should increase endurance performance. I'll do more research tho. It's been a while since I've done any research on the subject
Extremely important data. It looks as if Lionel could benefit from interval training that expands the amount of lactate. This might explain why Lionel feels exhausted heading in to T2 and on to the run in Kona.
Imagine he gets tapered before this workout.maybe his HR during all out will not exceed 140 at 500 watts. Just amazing LS agreed to share this kind of personal information

Did his heart rate really not even top 150 in the flat out test?
if he has a max heart rate of 160-170 thats high for him. would like to belive that he has a higher max heart rate for running
Older the athlete the lower the number. It also depends on what his max HR is..
