Fascinating! I saw these huts on Saturday on my way down the #2 and completely coincidentally found this video today. I wrongly assumed they were something to do with the railroad next to it. Thanks for this!
Other landmarks now long gone was the Palestine school house near Gladstone along hwy 16 which sat abandoned until it was eventually turned into a seed cleaning plant until it was demolished. Also the old General Store at Woodside. It disappeared sometime in the late 70s to early 80s
I still remember the section crew supply sheds that were spaced along rail lines. They’ve all but disappeared now. They provided landmarks on a long car ride as a kid. Their disappearance was hardly noticed by most.
Like many other commenters, I’ve wondered what those three red brick buildings along highway 2 are/were for. The 40-mile gaps make sense now. Thanks much!
When i was kid back in the early 90's. My Grandparents at the time live in Holland, Manitoba. My mom and me would make the trip from Winnipeg out there almost every weekend back then, so we were constantly passing that little brick building on the highway. I always thought as a kid that it was an old farm house. Now after all these years it's pretty cool to find out what is was really used for. I'm curious now to know if this is the only one remaining on Hwy 2 or if there's more still out there.
We drove by this same hut last summer as my husband and I took a day to just go down side roads and we came across the brick building, not knowing anything about it. Now we know . Thank you for sharing
I have an old rail bed running through my property north of warren. The original line meant from Winnipeg to Churchill. I think around 1890 or so. Wondering who I can contact to get some information
I really enjoy these short clips of Manitoban history.
I've also wondered what this building was!
Thank you for this!
These hidden Manitoba videos are interesting.
Thanks for sharing and explaining the history behind it. Next time I pass by one of these huts now I would know what they stand for.
Always wondered what these strange brick buildings were, excellent video!

My favourite one on Hwy 2 is the one they stuck a snowmobile on. Great video - thanks!
Good informative video I always wondered what the buildings were used for.

I’ve made that drive many times and I count three along highway 2 between Winnipeg and highway 10, south of Brandon.

Have you ever looked into the old town side of Assissippi? It is North of Russell on PTW 83, in the bottom of the Assissippi valley.
My grandfather installed those lines and buildings!
Any thought to doing a video on Scandinavia, Manitoba? It is located outside Erickson, and ive always been curious of its History?
There’s a small cemetery on the eastern shore of Otter Lake related to Scandinavia and if I remember correctly a small pox epidemic in the area.
My Curiosity has now been satisfied thanks
This could all be in School Curriculum........know your province and history.

Probably remnants of either or CN oak point or CN Inwood subdivisions
She's gorgeous 😍
Drive past this all the time!
