  • Today we walk through one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Istanbul - Tarlabasi. Considered to be the most dangerous in the city and many people will warn you not to come here alone, especially at night. What do you guys think - I personally felt very safe in the whole of Istanbul and find the people to be very friendly.
Comment where you think I should walk next and any travel recommendations.

😮That was a peaceful neighborhood, you don't even see bad dude hanging around. I would be very comfortable walking that street.

Until the 60s or 70s, it was a primarily Greek neighborhood. Then, the Greeks left and other people from the East came into the deserted houses. I like to walk there when I visit Istanbul, and sometimes I stay in one of the hostels. I have never felt any danger as a tourist, there are always people around and the small groceries remain open all night. Some years ago the neighborhood had been threatened by big soulless construction projects, which would send people away. I hope that Tarlabasi will keep its soul. It's an important historical heritage for this old city.

Looks exactly like the district of Belsunce / Porte d'Aix in Marseille in the 70's or 80's....
