Greg's voice of pain is definitely one of the tops. Can't really say "white" culture dominates when popular music has been black and black-influenced for a long time.

The Allman Brothers BEGINNING was my first album and first time every hearing them when I was just a 12 year old kid And have been huge fan ever since ! Alot of people don't know the fact that the Allman Brothers were actually the first band that created the Southern rock sound ! Started that at the world famous MUSCLE SHOALS...
I love how you've taken to these guys. It's the biggest statement yet about your good taste in rock bands. A lot of supposed fans of classic rock and rock in general couldn't name five songs by the Allman Brothers. Most would probably come up with Ramblin Man and that's it. You've already dove deeper into them than most ever will.
I grew up in Georgia...I'm so grateful for having the allman brothers in my backyard! This is one song I will never get tired of! RIP... Greg and Duane Allman...Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks.
Never heard a bad Allman Brothers song. Check out Derek Trucks too. He was just a teenager when he started touring with them. Derek learned slide guitar from the best, and his Uncle is Butch Trucks, the Allman Brothers drummer. Susan Tedeschi is his wife, she sings and plays the blues too.
It is amazing to me - this album was released in 1969 when the band members were in their early to mid 20s. The soulful singer, Gregg Allman, was only about 22, and his brother, Duane, the genius on the slide guitar, was about 23. Yet at those ages, they were making music that not only showed their souls were way older than their years, but their genius was strong enough to stand up to time. I was born and raised in Georgia, and lucky enough to have "discovered" their music early, and I've been a fan ever since. After listening to their work for over 50 years, I still love it enough to have it in my every day play list. What gifts they had!
YES! Now you’re gettin’ it brah! I’m telling you it doesn’t get any better! This is one of if not my favorite by them. Ain’t Wasting Time would be another. Lost my best friend to a drunk driver in 2000 and this song helped me get through that.

Years ago, Rollingstone Magazine rated Duane Allman as #2 behind Jimi Hendrix. But, Duane was a myth, a legend before he was known by mainstream. Legend had it that there was this guitar player down south, (in the late 60's) that played the guitar without touching the strings. Eric Clapton eventually searched for him, found him, and Duane plays most of the iconic riffs on Derick and the Dominos Layla Album, most attribuite to Clapton. Later, Chet Atkins said, "That Allman kid has the touch." Even today, when other guitarists have figured out how to imitate Duane, (just as they can Hendrix), there are those who know Duane soars miles above.
Have loved this song since I heard it when the album first came out. Now I just want to cry sometimes when I remember that both the brothers are gone, and there will be no more than what we have now. That's *our* cross to bear. And I cannot express just how deep down *good* it feels to see you and so many others appreciating the music I have loved for over 50 years. Thank you so much.

Gregg went to military school in my hometown and us locals called the cadets goobers. In 1974 I was at an all day concert with 250,000 fans called the August Jam. ABB were the headliners but Emerson Lake and Palmer stole the show. The ABB didn't come on until after midnight and Gregg was so messed up they had to stop the show to sober him up. With the 100 degree heat with high humidity and heavy drugs most people left. I am a huge ABB fan so I got right in the front. After Gregg came back out and there was a lull in the music I screamed goober as loud as i could. Gregg had trouble starting the song because he was laughing. It made my day.
Shout out for the Expos cap! I never heard him mention it specifically in an interview or anything, but surely Duane (and Dickie, too) was a significant influence on SRV. "reminds me of Donny Hathaway ..." - Gregg is surely one of the best white blues singers of that era.
Man, you have got to do "Don't Want You No More" with "Cross to Bear"!! That segue between the two really ties it together! That big old smile on your face is exactly how I've always felt about The Brothers, since first hearing them in 69 when this album came out! After countless listenings and live shows, I still feel the same way! RIP ABB!!

Hope he sent you an Allman Bros. Record. Eat a Peach is a great album. btw, Van, if you were thinking about doing some Led Zep, PLEASE do “Dazed and Confused” live ‘73, Madison Square Garden, with clips from their movie “The Song Remains the Same.” Thanks, Van.
Live like 2 miles from the graves of them all. I go to pay my Respects sometime and jam their music for them while there. It puts out this vibe man it hard to describe you'd just have to see for yourself
The way you described this as a solo fire pit song is how I discover most of my music. Outside with a beer, some smoke and blues so thick, you can taste it!
I felt like I was sitting there with you when you described this tune as one of those fire-pit songs. I felt like we were related when, at the end, you described how that needle sounds when it's put down on vinyl.
@5:29, I think the word you are looking for to describe the first guitar player's "taste" is,... *collards.* _That's right!_ Collards!! Collard greens and bacon grease. Hoo! Weeee! ; )
Allman Brothers pulled out a stew pot, threw in some blues, southern soul, rock, and a sprinkle of pain & heartbreak. Then they let it simmer overnight and let us taste it when we were hungry. Best ever.
Grand Funk & Zeppelin are 2 of my favorites.....please review Hendrix RED HOUSE, especially HEY JOE, MACHINE GUN, IF 6 WAS 9. Great job on the Allman Brothers. I love listening with you Thanks.
It is so hard to put into words what the Allman Brothers have meant to me in my life. Duane, in my opinion, was the best guitarists ever! Listen to him backing up Wilson Pickett covering Hey Jude by the Beatles. Simply a perfect moment in music!
My favorite song of theirs, Gregg Allman wrote this as a very young in his early 20's. I think Duane Allman was Just 24yrs when he died in a motorcycle accident. They packed more into there music very early. More than most people can in a life time.
Rest in peace to Greg and Duane Allman, Barry Oakley, and Butch Trucks... the founding members of the first bands of southern rock.
Best music ever made ♥️🎤🎼♥️

Live like 2 miles from the graves of them all. I go to pay my Respects sometime and jam their music for them while there. It puts out this vibe man it hard to describe you'd just have to see for yourself
This song is a masterpiece.
The way you described this as a solo fire pit song is how I discover most of my music. Outside with a beer, some smoke and blues so thick, you can taste it!
Please react to Allman Brothers, Soulshine, a great song from the 90s.
Duane Allman, doing what he did ! He always put just enough in and NEVER too much.
I felt like I was sitting there with you when you described this tune as one of those fire-pit songs. I felt like we were related when, at the end, you described how that needle sounds when it's put down on vinyl.
SOUTHBOUND 🔥🔥🔥
One of my all time favorite songs!!! One of my motto song.
Perfection isn't it!??! Love your faces as you drown in this one😁
Expos logo was always one of the best.
@5:29, I think the word you are looking for to describe the first guitar player's "taste" is,... *collards.*
_That's right!_ Collards!!
Collard greens and bacon grease. Hoo! Weeee! ; )
The way you used that food description, got me to thinkin'. What time you fixin' supper, brother?! Haha! Peace
You can’t go deep enough down this rabbit hole. This band is a whole All Star Team🙌🤟
They never failed in the music and song they always left you wanting more and more and more
Wow you can sing bro! Great channel keep up the great work
Allman Brothers pulled out a stew pot, threw in some blues, southern soul, rock, and a sprinkle of pain & heartbreak. Then they let it simmer overnight and let us taste it when we were hungry. Best ever.
can definitely described as pure blues.
The first guitarist is Duane Allman, the second is Dickie Betts.
Grand Funk & Zeppelin are 2 of my favorites.....please review Hendrix RED HOUSE, especially HEY JOE, MACHINE GUN, IF 6 WAS 9. Great job on the Allman Brothers. I love listening with you Thanks.
Great choice, Van!
One of my favorite tracks. Love your videos on all topics so to see this is a treat!
It is so hard to put into words what the Allman Brothers have meant to me in my life. Duane, in my opinion, was the best guitarists ever! Listen to him backing up Wilson Pickett covering Hey Jude by the Beatles. Simply a perfect moment in music!
Dittos Fred!
May be best reaction ever. Do more Allman!
My favorite song of theirs, Gregg Allman wrote this as a very young in his early 20's. I think Duane Allman was Just 24yrs when he died in a motorcycle accident. They packed more into there music very early. More than most people can in a life time.
Like stepping up to the plate first time and knocking it out of the park with your first swing!
Oh yes, an Allman Bros. fave of mine. Also Warren Hayes (while with the Bros.) wrote a song called Soul Shine.
Duane did guitar work for Aretha Franklin
