Hey G & Scotty, great video! There is one thing I don't agree with. If you find a miniature that you think is special or unique, buy it! Miniatures go out of production and in the long run. You will end up paying more. Here is some Insight, buy directly from the manufacturer. Some manufacturers will not charge for shipping. If the manufacturer does charge for shipping. Go to your local hobby store and ask if you can purchase the miniature through them. Manufacturers will wave the shipping fee to the hobby store. Thanks Scotty & G, you gentlemen have a great day.
Scotty, I love how in the beginning of a video, you are calm and collected...but by the end, you are like a crazy mad scientist. Check this out! Look at this! No offense, love it.
Back in the day we used whatever we had at hand. One of our players drew out a grid on a piece of poster board (I don't think battle mats were a thing then) and we used dominos for walls and things like pennies or plastic poker chips for monsters. We did have a handful of minis that another player painted, but other than a few other toy creatures that was pretty much it. Great video. I thought this was going to be more about how to move your minis around the table etc. and was pleasantly surprised on all the tips you provided. I think paper minis would be a great option for players/DMs that don't have the funds for 3d minis, and I wouldn't have thought about board games or the dollar store as options. Great tips.
I would love, LOVE to see the TCG do a video citing they're favorite Non-D&D boardgames that they use miniatures from. Bc yeah we know games like Legend of Drizzit and Ravenloft are great for mini's but would love to see others like Massive Darkness be featured displayed and talked about in a little more depth maybe showcasing some mini's TCG has painted from those games.
Great video guys! I loved the back and forth conversation. And I agreed with starting out with what you will use most often. Made/got some really cool stuff when I started out but it won't get the use to warrant the time and money put into it.
Another option is going down a scale to 15mm. Not as impressive and you'll not have the same range to pick from; but they're easier to paint, store and carry and of course more affordable. Imo they look better than 25/28mm on the commonly used inch square floor tile. Also you can mix scales, using 25mm for the larger monsters.
Bones 5 is coming this September. I really like the bones website. The plastic minis and paints are a reasonable price and the do free shipping plus a free mini every month with orders over 40 bucks. The free mini is also usually a metal or one made in the new high quality grey color Bones Black series. IMO the pre painted stuff is nice but overpriced (even on ebay) thanks to the new interest in D and D. If someone wants to use the paper token minis. If you can find the Pathfinder stuff for a reasonable price they are great,
Great but could you guys go deeper and do a vid for using and dealing with terrain and minis in on the fly encounters? I'm trying to give my players more freedom in creating the story but that has meant doing encounters without terrain or minis allot. I just like to know how to be more flexible with the 300+ minis I have painted so far.....and I've only Started the complete Bones 4 ...grooooan.😉
@@theDMsCraft "So you're thinking about doing it...I have a chance!?!?" lol. I look forward to more videos like this in the future hopefully. It's great to make/use terrain for encounters but my "wandering murder hobos" always have other plans 😂 and I'm trying to enhance my games with maps and terrain while trying to be a more flexable GM and I swear its one of the hardest things to do as a GM IMO.
So why haven't the producers for Star Trek Next Generation tried D&D on a Holodeck yet!? I'm hoping that the concept, not only takes off among players, but gets some serious think time from programmers and engineers! I for one would spend a lifetime of savings on a 100% IMMERSION into a realistic world campaign! Where no one has gone before!!!!!!!!!
The Holodeck IS an RPG where the computer is the GM. At the current rate of advancement in machine learning, a "VR" equivalent may be only a few years away.
The problem with kickstarters is it typically takes a year to get the minis. They can be great but you have to buy way in advance and then not all kickstarters succeed.
Very true, the wait can be painful but a company like Reaper is not going to fail on a kickstarter. You are right, informed discretion is a good policy.
Thanks for the shoutout!
Sorry I said "Monster" instead of "Miniature" :)

Thanks for watching. I have used everything from snacks to 1/6 scale action figures for minis :)
Glad you liked the ideas Mark.
Miniature Mash up gets some love too!
Just realised I said "monster" instead of "miniature" mash-up.
Dave is great, got to game with him last year.
No wonder I couldn't find him. I kept searching for monster mashup.
