Was lucky to have the opportunity to go on a mother ship 2 years running. First year got one barra over 6 days fishing. The next year the barra farms had flooded the market. As a result no one was netting. Caught a metery and many others. Huge difference between the years. This fishing needs to be sustainable so these fellas can earn a quid over the long term, the punters visiting get a crack, and the fish get a decent go. Wild caught barra should be priced accordingly.
you can see how these nets could easily damage smaller fish and even big cod like the one they got in this, basically nothing gets past them. pretty tough on the fish and not very sustainable in my eyes but hey its a living and if they're happy good on em. that said i couldnt help but cringe at big barra getting thrashed with a crowbar out of the net then dumped onto the floor - quite different to their treatment by sport fishos hey
G'day mates........you boys come up to Skardon ......Jackson.....and Mc Donald rivers.......sure I seen you blokes on my travels down the west coast from the tip
Yeah, that why you drive all that way and catch nothing. All the commercial fishermen clean out the barras. Rape and pillage with no respect for size or catch limits. Recreational anglers return 10 time to the local community that the commercials do.
I like lots of people hate netting but its not thees fellas fault. They are bloody hard workers! Its the government that makes the rules and regulations. Great video mate. You did a great job capturing the better side of what's essentialy a pretty frowned upon trade.
Fished the Kimberley’s for 15years from 2006 average catch for 8 angler was 1200 Barra for the week this year 50 Barra for the week there only 1 reason why the fishing has depleted And that’s because of netting the rivers that we fished have no access by road so you can’t blame the sports fisherman
More net free zones needed

Hi Bruce I normally do a day trip in the tinny to the McDonald when I’m camping at the Cottrell. Love all the river’s along that coast 👍🏼
