I was maintenance manager for Star of the west in Indiana. I've been in this old mill several times. This mill has been out of service for several years. With all the old timber in the old building and all the old grain dust it probably went up fast.
there was a really big storage silo complex out there in the mid west that exploded years ago and killed 10 or 12 people the was caused by grain dust when a conveyer belt bearing failed and got hot enough to light up the dust.it ripped of the roof of all the silos a mile long.

Not being from the area do you know what was stored at that facility ? Guessing some form of grain ?
It was a flour and grain mill but it had been inactive for years.

It was a flour mill and no it ceased operations a few years ago. But it was a historic building

must have been a grain dust blast, they say it is just like gun power in the right dust to air concentration.

was any one hurt or killed in the blast.
A couple of Kent firefighters were injured during the explosion, but not seriously.
