  • Whitchurch Silk Mill is the oldest silk mill in the UK still in its original building. A gem of industrial heritage in beautiful, rural Hampshire, Whitchurch Silk Mill is a Georgian water mill that weaves silk using 19th century machinery.
Before weaving can begin, the new warp must be threaded onto the loom; this can be done in one of two ways - a) by first completely removing the old warp from the loom and rethreading from scratch (extremely time consuming) or b) leaving the old warp on the loom and hand knotting or twisting each warp end of the new warp onto the corresponding warp end of the old warp.
It can take up to 20 hours to knot on a warp of the size shown in this film.
