There aren't many famous people who are so candid with the reality of drugs, Phil might sound like he's giving you a lecture (if that's how u see it) but I think what he's doing here is solid. It's not all fun in music, this is more musicians story than you realize
You also have to realize that people are starting because of the doctors prescribing the medicine in the first place that it helps some people so much and with chronic pain as well
Nah not everyone honestly ,we're a lot past that era that was maybe 2000's , opiods are so taboo these days doctors are barely prescribing it , today ppl are taking these "dirty oxys" from of the street and going straight to fentanyl
So sad but true. Think of all the soldiers from all the different Nations that guarded and protected Opium fields in Afghanistan that was used against the people (Both Afghanistan and the Nation's they hailed from) they went to protect and defend. Interesting the amount of synthetic or proxy "Narcotics" (true definition, drug derived from the Opium plant, not legal definition, meaning any drug) that have been hitting the streets and users since right before and after the Collective withdraw (sadly, a pun can be made from this) from Afghanistan. I read last week the Taliban has opium production cut by 90% (cause that's Haram in Islam, kinda defeats the old "buying drugs supports Terrorists" narrative we in the West/US have heard on repeat, unless you also consider the elements of multiple government's that historical peddle said drugs as terrorists too, cause the shoe fits and all), and it makes me wonder how this could be played out by Our collective "Powers That Be" to nudge or direct "us" down a path. Lack of drugs means withdraws and "what-ever-it-takes" from the user to continue that high (robberies, assaults, prostitution, etc.), as well as peddlers fighting turf wars over limited supplies of potential income. Upheaval and chaos will continue until the end users are killed off, peddlers "jailed", and something else takes it's place, starting a new cycle of chaos and destruction. At one time, "Religion might have been the opiate of the masses", these days, it's just seems to be opiates are the opiates of the masses: cut's out the questionable middle-man, and makes control easier and more profitable, I'd imagine.
It’s so messed up. If the government just let people get what they needed. It wouldn’t even be a huge issue. Methadone and buprenorphine are horrible traps.
If Purdue Pharma and the doctors didn't turn into drug dealers in the late 90's and get tens of millions of sober people hooked on opiods this wouldn't have happened. The government didn't protect the people from these "legal drug dealers", they allowed it and sponsor it. People shouldn't be doing opioids period, but for the ones that fell into the pit they have to now stay on long term dosing therapy just to stave off the withdrawal and what chaos that would do for their lives. I'm telling you this as someone experiencing it, I wish the government would have stopped all the pain pills from getting pushed on people, and it's complete BS that the doctors and pharma salesmen had good intentions, Purdue KNEW what would happen with their oxycontin on the market and that was the point all along.
