When you see a celebration in the shed, if the ribbons around it is pink and white then it's a wedding but if it's black and white it's a funeral and if it's yellow and white it's can be other traditional events like giving gratitude to your parent on their birthday etc...
Sounds like wedding was happening next door to the first place. Nice yard at the second place - plenty of room inside tpp, but they still have those tiny bathrooms!
Both were a bit far out but I kinda liked the second one as I would love to have a huge veggie garden. But the bathrooms were so tiny, unsure why as the house was huge.
Hi. I know this is an old vid but the algo sent it. The stove in the 2nd place - wow, I've never seen that before. There's a grill inside that small stove! Thnx for the vid. Hope y'all are doing well. Cheers!
Hi Jeremy and Claire , happy to hear you've recovered from your bad restaurant experience , my number one must have for any dwelling is natural light , I hate feeling like I'm locked inside a box , and my number two is I love plants , flowers , trees , etc... the surrounding area becomes oh so important , best to take some time and explore different areas , hopefully things will open up in the not to distant future , take care for now , Peace ...
Hi Brian, it was a very bad food experience! Luckily it was fairly short-lived, and also fortunate that we were staying in a lovely place - makes the discomfort easier to bear somehow. Yes to plants! Green is my favourite colour and I love to see lots of it when I look outside. In a climate like Cambodia's, seeing green somehow makes things feel cooler. Next time we visit Kampot, we will take more time to look for better properties.
Hello Brian, yeah it was not fun. You really need to give yourself a month at least to find something good. Kampot hasn't got the amount of apartments like SR. But there are a few horrible mega developments being built, total for one market.
We weren't keen on them either. There isn't anywhere near as much rental stock in Kampot as there is in Siem Reap, and people are still being a little unrealistic about the prices down there too. I think it would probably take a while to look around and find the right place.
Yeah, it all kinda fell apart as neither were the ones I wanted to see in the first place. Then the other real estate agent kinda freaked out and we were getting over a horrible case of food posioning. Some times nothing goes to plan but you just have to go with the flow.

Prices are cheaper than I thought, I plan on taking your recommendation and look around for a while, its only me, so I don't need a big place. Are you guys considering to make the move?
If we were moving there, I would ask about monthly stays in one of the Kampot Facebook groups. I am sure there are plenty of people running guesthouses and hotels that would welcome the money and give a good discount on the nightly rate. In that month I'd have a good, thorough look around at rental properties.
Unsure at the moment but Kampot is really relaxing and has roads..... The dust here is getting to a point of affecting your health. Kampot had fires burning most of the time we were there but the first 2 days the air quality was amazing. I would love to live in one of the old French colonial buildings they are beautiful.
Yeah they were a bit far out but the house would have been great for a family moving here. They have a few rental facebook pages but nothing stood out. The Western real estate agent totally blocked me when I asked if it was ok about doing a Vlog.

The hot water systems are little electric bypass ones that are attached to the wall in the bathroom. They don't cost very much and can be installed easily. There is usually only hot water in the shower, not at the kitchen sink or the basin. These rooms are pretty small, maybe 5m x 5m or a bit less.
Seems not to be that many around unfortunately. It was a bit of a failure overall, with the other agent freaking out and the food poisoning situation. But I'm sure if you gave yourself a month to find the area you like, it wouldn't be that hard finding a nice place.
@@ForRiel most of the airnb's in Siem Reap have discounted there price much more than Kampot has (covid-19). Most of the best deals are not advertised!
Thanks for the apt. tour. Sorry to hear that you were sick for a couple of days. That seems to be an occurring problem for westerners there. Do you think it's an issue with the food itself, or the person who prepares it? Personal hygiene, hand washing etc. Someone who lives there recommended that one should only eat at halaal ( Muslim ) restaurants because their religion has strict guidelines for handling and preparing food. Thoughts?
Hi! Our food poisoning was definitely from food, and we are 99% sure it was chicken. I think it was off. This was the first time this happened to me after many years of living and travelling in SE Asia / Asia generally. I pretty much eat what I want and don't even think about getting sick. This was a one-off, just unfortunate that it happened while we were on a holiday. I think parasites in the water like giardia are more of a concern, and that IS something we deal with pretty regularly.
I get food posioning extremely easily due to medication I've taken in the past. It's more bacteria grows quickly in this heat and the lack of mass turnover due to less customers. So I can't either confirm or deny anything about Halal food, but being Halal doesn't mean you "won't" get food poisoning. But as Claire said it's the water, you have to watch out for. Ice is fine here (tubed ice only), no one is setting out to make you ill it's bad for business.

It's hard to say. There's good and bad about both. We prefer Phnom Penh over both of those but we didn't end up living there until last. Which do you prefer?

And no bloody washing machine! We weren't really that impressed with either place, but it was a good starting point.

Yes, it is a very compact unit, but it is very convenient for such a small kitchen. We are doing well and living our best lives 🙏😊❤️

The little tray on the stove/cooker is a fish grill - you put a bit of water in the bottom, I had one like it in Japan (and never used it)
That is a very specific use. I doubt we'd use it either.
Like a steamer? Have never see one here.

Yes, we would prefer to be closer to the riverside or the town centre. The apartment had a good layout.

How do they get the hot water I don’t see hot water cylinder. And how big is the rental room ?

Asian don't use toilet seats my wife here in the Philippines is like that
Dependsbon where the toilet is, I guess. The seat can be pretty dirty.
maybe they'd heard you had food poisoning and thats why they left to toilet seat up..
It was coming the other end so I needed at least the seat down. I don't want to think what happens if you have a squat toilet and that happens to you.
