  • Incident Video Release: At 6:40 AM on December 5th, 2019, ME224 was returning from a response and found smoke coming from a commercial occupancy in the 2100 Block of North Lugo in San Bernardino. The 20,000 square foot building, not open at the time of the fire, was built in 1950 and formally a roller rink. ME224 immediately requested a commercial fire response and initiated a fire attack. Due to the level of fire involvement & building size a second alarm was quickly struck to bring additional equipment and crews to the scene.
    Crews engaged in a transitional fire attack, utilizing a fire attack from the exterior to attempt to knock down the fire. Crews pushed in for a short time to work on a search for potential victims, but vacated the building due to the smoke and fire conditions. Once crews transitioned to a defensive posture, multiple master streams and ladder pipes were At the height of the fire more that’s 3,000 gallons per minute were flowing into the building to suppress the fire. Energized power lines also were found down, Edison was requested to mitigate the electrical hazard. The fire was ultimately knocked down in approximately 60 minutes.
    Crews are still on scene working on hot spots and coordinating with San Bernardino Building & Safety and Code Enforcement to determine a course of action with the building. One firefighter received a minor injury and is at the hospital for treatment. No injuries to civilians were noted.
    San Bernardino County Fire responded with (9) Engines, (3) Trucks, (1) Medic Squad, (4) Chief Officers, (2) Fire Investigators & (1) Dozer / Heavy Equipment Team. The building did receive significant damage and a damage estimation wasn’t available at the time of the release. While fire crews were committed to the incident, #SBCoFD move-up apparatus were brought in to San Bernardino to provide coverage.
