the bubble wrap plastic would keep the roots warmer in the colder months when you seed start, so that would be one of the reasons for the higher growth. looks great. :) You mentioned the ramifications of using plastic, but unless you're using soil blocks with fibreglass or metal trays, the usual module trays are also made of plastic. Grow bags are recycled plastic for the most part! It's super hard to divorce ourselves from plastic in this world lol.
