Spiritus Mundi was commissioned & premiered by Suzi Digby, OBE and the Golden Bridge Consort as a contemporary reflection of the Orlando de Lassus motet Timor et tremor.
Spiritus Mundi sets a text by contemporary poet Amy Fleury. Fleury's poem is secular but still spiritual, reflecting gratitude for the fruits of the earth in a language both pastoral and almost biblical. Both Spiritus Mundi and Timor et tremor explore the idea of trust in something greater than oneself, whether that trust is in God or the natural world.
Dale, this is an absolute bop. The “oh, sisters and brothers” bit gets me every time. The ending cadence shakes my core always. And this alto section!!
Truly the best A major chord I’ve ever heard
